I understand opposition fans making large of that but seriously .. how about the other games we fecked up in, or at the very least our strikers failing to score against Chelsea in that match ? His slip didn't cost us the title, the team's performance over 38 matches did.
That's just a cliché, his slip was the turning point. 3-3 was the final nail of course.

"hits out at Chelsea fans"? Feck's sake. He said nothing wrong and was being too kind, if anything.

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
I'm hearing that Gerrard snubbed Brendan as he was subbed off. Didn't see it so most likely Facebook sillyness.

As for him dissing Chelsea fans, whatever. I don't mind a player giving a bit back.

The cliche is 'The Slip'. You can't discount all the other matches or our strikers failing to score against Chelsea just because as an oppo fan it suits your agenda better.

Well obviously you can as you just did.

It appears that he's won next to nothing in almost a decade now.

It was his "we do not let this f***ing slip now" speech, that was the beginning of the end. But you're right, it was a collective failure that led to the collapse. It's just that if you had to identify one single moment as they most significant, it would be that slip. A moment for which he will be forever remembered.

I think you are just being a tad too sensitive and a protectionist.

The title was in Liverpool's hands, it didn't matter what had happened the previous 'n' games. Liverpool just needed to win their games and it did not matter what anyone else did. Stevie's wonderful rendition of Swan lake, led to your confidence being shattered. This continued into Crystanbul, where you were sitting pretty at 3-0, but as soon as something went wrong the whole belief in the team died, tied to a pretty clueless manager who didn't know what to do. The 'SLIP' was the turning point of your season which until then had been good by your standards.

That doesn't sound right. I was only 7-9 during that period but I cannot for the life of me, remember Gerrard in any of the Liverpool teams during that time, unless these Young Player awards were for Youth/Reserve performances, in which case ignore me :)

Gerrard's post match interview sticking it back to Chelsea fans a bit...

If only more footballers did this. I'm fed up of the same old "not about me, about the team","one game at a time".

It's always the same answers to the same questions, just the interviewee who changes. This for once, was quality

It sounds like the Chelsea fans got to Gerrard as he seemed pissed at them. Quite unprofessional from Slippy G imo.

It's not a cliché. Everyone will associate Liverpool not winning in 2013-14 with his slip, and the slip will always be a defining moment of Gerrard's career. You're bonkers if you think it was a detail in that season. It was absolutely huge. Evidently hard to stomach if you're arguing its relevance a year on, but well.

I think his Roy of the Rovers act after that slip was just as damaging.

It doesn't matter. Once the narrative takes hold, it's what everyone remembers. Denis Law's reluctant backheel didn't technically relegate us back in 1974, but everyone remembers it that way, and there's no point trying to argue, really. As someone else said, his Roy of the Rovers act was equally damaging, but the slip was so perfect, given his "this won't slip" dramatics, that it's what most fans will remember decades on.

Give over. Clearly his 'standard chartered player of the month award for March 2012', or his third place at 'BBC's Sports personality of the year award' are the memories that will endure for the masses.

Ha ha! Yeah, can't believe he used such stellar career highlights. Then again, these are fans who regularly win the Net Spend Trophy, aren't they? ;)

I won't lie, Steven Gerard is without a doubt one of the best midfielder ever and watching Lolerpool try to replace him is going to be funny as feck. He has single handily carried that team to trophies they had no business winning and even now 34/35 he is the main output of that team.

Rodgers will no doubt be looking at his primary shopping centre again at Southampton FC, but since I'm sure Schniederlin will have better offers than them they will probably have to settle for Davis hahaha

When I saw him subbed off, I figured his relationship with Brentan was already long in the tooth and Steve just wanted it over already. Gerrard probably was pissed to be taken off when HIS TEAM needed him to get that win but Mr. Rodgers couldn't let that happen, lol.

Gerrard was a good player, but that was years ago. Last season, he was more passenger than engine which The Slip highlighted.

Props to the Chelsea fans for giving him a proper sendoff. Some stick while in play but respect when walking off to the sunset. Not sure what else he should expect. The amount of derision he gets from rival fans is a form of respect. Came off rather bitter.

I still loathe him for giving away a goal during our run in which gives Chelsea the win they needed, it's very unprofessional.

And Karma is such a bitch, that slip right after "we do not let this slip"... you can't write that up.

Nice players, great talent, local lad, yadda yadda yadda, at the end of the day take that you slippy G

What a class interview. If one of ours would have said that you'd had all wet your jeans.

I do believe he was going to Chelsea at one point. But there's no doubt he loves Liverpool fc. And good for him. If there wasn't players like that for other clubs then ours wouldn't be so special. I've enjoyed making fun of him through the years. But respect! A true Liverpool captain.
