I'm happy for Evra to be back up or leaving to get a big, final, pay-day elsewhere.

Evra has been a great servant to the club, and deserves to be considered as such.

But we're at the end of an era. The 30 somethings need to be replaced. Having watched Shaw a few times he looks older than his years - the sign of a very good player - and ti my mind he's the best prospect out there. At left back he can slot in and find his feet.

If united are prepared to spend big on him, at his age, the writing is on the wall for Evra. Given the Baines bid he probably knows that. He's probably got plans and will be away in the summer anyway.
We still need two LB. Evra could be still a valuable player for another season.

Not many teams have two left backs on big money. And Evra is unlikely to be happy playing second fiddle to a kid. If we're serious I suspect he'll be offered first team football and that would be the end of Evra.

If Evra leaves, despite his past couple of seasons, we should never forget what a great player he was for us. Loyal servant too.

At the end of the day the fans will remember his best days, no matter how bad he gets.

I can't remember why I joined this war.
I haven't seen much of the lad but he seems to get praise whenever I hear someone talking about him. We certainly could need someone for the left fullback position especially if Evra should really decide to leave at the end of the season. He also has PL experience which is def a plus and if we get him plus a more experienced left fullback I think he could do very well for us.

The Spain midfielder was warmly greeted by United players in person and on social media on Saturday, but he may only be the first of three arrivals. David Moyes, United’s manager, also wants to bring in a central midfielder and a left-back before Friday’s deadline. One club source stated: “There is a real excitement around Old Trafford.”

United have also made a £22m bid for Southampton’s Luke Shaw, and initial contact has been for a number of midfielders, including Juventus’ Arturo Vidal. They are also looking at Newcastle United’s Yohan Cabaye and Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos as well as, in the longer term, Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gündogan.

We're already successful this window with Mata, and if we were to sign Shaw and Vidal, it would make this one of the best winter windows for any club. Also, good to do most of the business this window in order to give the players time to settle in and allow the club to not get fleeced by World Cup valuations in the summer.

Didn't Evra score a goal when played as RB once? Wondering if he could be an experience back-up to both young sides (Shaw and Rafa). Evra's attacking ability is still one of the best around. And his main asset isn't for whipping cross after cross, but for link up play and provide outlet; so him being left footed shouldn't be a hindrance playing on the right side.

roma. 7-1 win. the 7th goal i think.
That's it! I was convince he'd feature more on the right, but seemed like he wasn't needed for so long (because no-one was as good as him on the left).

Haven't heard anything else on this since, so was it all just media bollocks getting carried away with the Mata transfer?

Hard to tell. Moyes, in the interview, said that we are currently working on deals but that they would more than likely be summer transfers. He said that it's very unlikely that anyone else would be coming in this month, unless current situations change, which could happen. He said the exact same thing before we signed Mata, though.

I think he has some more big moves lined up, I'm fairly certain of it actually but I don't think it will be in this window.

We should keep Evra for one more season - yeah he isn't quite the player he was a few years ago but he is still more than good enough for us most of the time. But we can not let Shaw slip away without a match at least

Real Madrid.
Good example - given they were seemingly keen to offload one of them to us on loan and replace him with a 28 year old from Granada - I would imagine on less than half his salary.

Proves my point if anything.

If we manage to bring in Shaw and someone like Vidal in this window I will doft my cap to Moyes and Co.

To be fair even one more along with Mata would be a good window, CM has to be the priority though.

Even just signing Mata is a good window. 1 mata, i'm still finding it surreal.

It's absolutely true that regardless of further signings, Mata has made for an incredible January.

However, if they want to treat us, then I won't be complaining, so if it's to be Shaw and or someone else - excellent.

Imagine signing all of them

I'm quite negative when it comes to our transfers. But I actually think there are legs to this bid for Luke Shaw. I'm willing to bet we have bid for him. Whether he wants to come or hold out for his dream move is yet to be determined.

If we got Shaw and Vidal as well as Juan Mata, I'd say it'd be our best ever window fullstop.

Ah right thanks. I didn't bother looking back through the thread for some reason, I just kept seeing it bumped and wondered if we were actually being linked with him.

Says who? I doubt he is going to turns us down in wait of Chelsea and vise verse if the situations were different.

If we did bid £22.5M as reported, surely Southampton would struggle to turn that down. They aren't in any financial crisis, but with the current uncertainty at the club and fact it's a hefty fee for a left back it might be difficult to refuse. On the other hand, we many have left ourselves too little time to conclude a deal and for them to sign his replacement.

Even with us signing Mata, I still see Chelsea as the favourites to sign him however.

They seemed to have coped OK with him being injured. But they can have Buttner; I'm fairly sure they were in for him before Fergie bought him.

They were on the cusp of signing him before we (unfortunately) swooped in and took him off their hands. I imagine they're glad that ship has sailed.
