Thread for the mentalists who want Ole as our DOF.
What's wrong with our fanbase? Why can't you just let go?
Our club is going through its Liverpool (90-00s) years, both in terms of the club's decisions and the fan base clinging onto the past.
Ole has done absolutely nothing in his career to suggest he would make a great director of football. He apparently has a great eye for talent because he signed two of the highest rated and very attainable players in the league and followed Giggs' recommendation of buying James.
I wonder if Cardiff fans share this idea that he's got a great eye for talent. Magnus Wolff-Eikrem, Mats Mohler Daelhi, Fabio Da Silva, Jo Inge Bert, etc. There's a theme there of ex-United youth players and Norwegians who used to play for Molde. Does this suggest he has an amazing eye for talent or the contacts to sign hidden gems? To me it suggests laziness and a lack of ideas.
Our most recent coaching addition, De Gea's new goalkeeping coach, used to be United's youth team goalkeeping coach, then Ole took him to Molde, then to Cardiff, and now the guy is back at United in a first team position. Now this guy could be an amazing goalkeeping coach for all I know, but given his career trajectory I doubt it. Again, probably just laziness/a lack of ideas.
There's obviously nothing to this idea that he's a great spotter of talent, and when you consider the fact that a manager being superannuated into a director of football role is almost certainly going to result in friction with the new manager, it would be an awful, if not unexpected, appointment. We need to get a specialist in but given we played failed wingers as our two first choice full backs for a few years, the club clearly doesn't believe in specialists.
It comes from the top with Woodward. He's running a football club and doesn't have the first clue about football. His schtick has infected the fan base.
