Whether in regular time or penalties I just don't see us going through unless Ronaldo pulls one out of his arse

If Maguire plays, which I'm sure he will, he will do something that leads to us losing.
Really hope we don't start off that attacking, rather play it safer and stay in the game and let subs impact it, you only have Rashford (Not the game for him) & Cavani on the bench your way and this is a big game for Elanga as good as he's been so far.
EDIT: I'd start Matic too, appreciate he will be tired and I'd look to replace him around the 60 but so many players play better when he's on the field. Won't be much space for Elanga & Rashford to get in behind (Where their strength lies), I'd go with:

    ---------------------------Ronaldo----------------------------
    Sancho---------------------------------------------Bruno
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    -------------------Pogba-----------Fred--------------------

Fred as the sitting DM just doesnt work, his first touch is too poor and he'd be ripe for the press.

I think only 1 of pogba or Bruno will play. Both will be far to risky. I’d play matic as we’re expected to have more possession and his passing will be helpful.
I would've chosen Matic if not for the fact he played on Saturday. I don't think his legs have it in them for a high tempo game tomorrow.

I'd rather see Elanga from the start and taken off if it looks like we're going to penalties.

Solid team, with no passengers that won't concede many and we have the firepower in Bruno, Sancho and Ronaldo to take the game away from Atletico. Matic in for Mctominay would be fine too.

It won't happen but I'd like to see something like:

    Sancho Bruno Elanga
    Telles Pogba McTominay Dalot
    Maguire Varane Lindelof
    De Gea

Apparently, Lindelof started at RB because we were planning to switch to a back 3, only for us to concede so early, so you never know.

Just hope Pogba if selected plays with more energy than he did on Sat. Can see same back 4, Mctom back in Bruno same. Sancho has to start Ronny as well, and maybe Rashford as well. Big game we need to score 1st, control game then seal it with a 2nd in about 70 -75 mins . Let's see

    3-4-3 incoming...

    DDG
    Lindelof - Varrane - Maguire
    Dalot - Pogba - Fred - Telles
    Elanga - Ronaldo - Sancho

    Subs: Matic, Bruno, Lingard

 No, I don't really care, and don't expect that, but I wouldn't be shocked.

We beat Spurs because the GOAT put in a GOAT performance. Without him, we probably would've scored 0 to 1 goals, meaning a loss.

There are 2 reasons why I think we'll lose tomorrow:
1, I do not believe that Ronaldo can put another GOAT performance (in successive games)
2, RR refuses to drop our worst defender and A.Madrid will target Maguire and probably score.

Many people here seem to be confident of a win, but I don't believe this belief is influenced by logic.

Cacking it for tomorrow. Gonna try and get down to the ground early and savour what could be our last CL game for a while. We’re good enough to beat these, just need to be on it, no mistakes. We can’t possibly be worse than what we were for the away leg atleast.

This looks good. Extra security in defence will allow both Bruno and pogba to be more forward thinking and pick out the runs from sancho and elanga.

I've never been so sure of United losing a game in my life. Needing to win at home against a team that's bang average to secure a place in the next round - lose. At least I can finally check out for the season when the inevitable happens tomorrow.

Probably be by the even more agony of a penalty shoot-out as well to make it even worse for us.

Bang average is a little unfair, they have lots of quality and are the champions, plus they have started winning games again, they're a better side than us unfortunately.

You want to drop Ronaldo in the biggest CL game we’ve had in years? Right ok thank you, next.

Someone put the perfect team in this thread earlier, Pogba and Sancho out wide, Ronaldo up front with Bruno, Fred and Matic in midfield and Lindelof starting instead of Maguire. I can also see him starting cavani and playing either him or Ronaldo off one another.

Need 100% effort for full 90 mins. So its natural to keep Rashford away from the starting lineup.

Having said that, I fully expect him to start and sulk the moment we kick off.

I just want to see real effort from us and everybody fighting to save the season. If we see that kind of win I would think we have an outside chance of winning the Champions League. Unfortunately, we’ve failed so often because we simply don’t turn up. There was a time a CL game under the lights meant United would always put a performance in, now it feels like the opposite. Sevilla 2018 was just horrible.

Given we are off for 3 weeks after this, we have to go all out.

It will be really tough though.

Fred needs to play in an advanced role.
Matic if he can play 90 mins.
    One of Pogba/Bruno (not both)
    No Maguire

    C’mon Ronnie! United need you!

Could just be me but from RR’s press conference it sounded like he was going to start Lindelof.
Probably won’t but one can dream of Harry being benched. Signed him for 80 mil and not once after a big game have I come out thinking “Wow Harry really saved us today”.

I appreciate the candor, but what does “logic” have to do with anything? Spurs beat City, City destroyed United, then United beat Spurs.

This is a game of football played by men with passion, not algorithm. We are at home tomorrow, we’ve just come off a big win over the weekend, and while it might be true that the GOAT can no longer put in back to back GOAT performances, it might be true that he can. It might be true that as poor as Maguire has been this season that he actually puts in a masterful performance.

Anything is possible tomorrow. We live to experience the drama of the human condition unfold before our very eyes. We do not live to see “logic” reveal its remorseless self.

Athletico haven't been so good this season, Will Simeone get them up for this one? hopefully after the game Ralf can have a word with Diego and sound him out about taking the managers job.

I'm a bit worried Ralf will once again gamble with an alternative formation and will go with a back 3 to accommodate Harry.

Then again I'm sure he will want us to start attacking to get the first goal.

Big questions are whether Harry and Rashy will start.

    Also, it's Pogba's birthday.

Unfortunately I can't see any way in which we progress tonight. AM are exactly the kind of industrious, fearless, hard-working, organised, talented team who will just bully us out of this game.

I predict we will start well, have 5/10 minutes of relative possession/territory, then AM will slowly start to play higher, gain control of the midfield, gaps will start to appear, they will create chances and eventually we'll go behind.

I also predict that whatever happens, this forum will blame Maguire
