Hardest game to call for me in the linups prediction league. I have absolutely no idea who'll start anywhere, mainly because I don't know who's back from injury and who's injured (cough Jones cough).

I do however think, that we'll smash QPR at least 3-0.

    What you think about 3-3-3-1

Di Maria have space for run, speed, croos and magic - right side the same thing
There will be no congestion on final part of pich, we stretch.
In defence we have covered every inch.
Perhaps it is an ideal for the fast transformation TO 4-3-3
    Wtf is a Flec?

I'm not fussed whether we play 3-5-2, 4-3-3 or whatever strange conception LVG comes up with.

I just don't want to see Valencia, Young and Fletcher anywhere near the team. There's no reason to play them anymore considering the signings we've made too.

Cheers. Personally think the personnel is much more suited to 4 at the back, would actually be surprised if he persisted that much longer with it.
Au contraire! Notwithstanding the injury to Jones which makes him starting the match vs QPR seem a lot less likely, and Smalling yet to return from injury, the squad is arguably now more suited to 3 at the back with the addition of new players for whom the system is familiar, i.e. Rojo & Blind. My only concern given that the latter are reportedly more left-sided, and that Blackett has appeared for the first team on the left, is who would play as RCB?

I really hope we drop the 3-4-1-2 for the match. But I don't see it yet.

    De Gea
    Evans--Smalling--Rojo
    Valencia--Blind--Herrera--Shaw
    Mata
    Rooney--Di Maria
Subs: Lindegaard, Blackett, Young, Fletcher, Januzaj, Falcao, van Persie

If Smalling isn't fit yet, start Blackett over Smalling.

This match will sort out the men from the boys in terms of the team selection comp ?!?

Wonder what the split will be between head and heart (ie picking Mata, RVP, Roo AND Falcao)

Cant wait for our season to start on Sunday. My main concern is that LVG will start too many of the new faces. They wont have trained together til Thursday, so v risky to throw too many in together. Its gonna be fun !!

    Pretty sure we'll line up like this;

    -------------de Gea--------------
    -----Evans---Blackett---Rojo-----
    Valencia--Herrera--di Maria--Young
    -------------Rooney--------------
    --------Falcao----van Persie------

Subs: Amos, Rafael, Blind, Shaw, Fletcher, Mata, Januzaj

Can't see Rafael or Shaw starting just yet.

    Would love to see this though;

    -----------de Gea----------
    -Rafael--Evans--Rojo--Shaw-
    ------------Blind------------
    ------Herrera--di Maria------
    ------------Mata------------
    -------Falcao--van Persie----

Subs: Amos, Valencia, Blackett, Fletcher, Young, Januzaj, Rooney

As Mourinho kept saying Mata is a luxury player. When flanked by runners like Oscar or Willian, he can excel. Right now I don't think we can afford that in our team. I would play Januzaj at 10, want to see him get chances like Sterling does. Rooney to play second striker to Falcao until RvP is fit. Blind to play CDM, and a Herrera Di Maria midfield. Almost begins to give me hope again!

This has to the template we'll look to keep to long term. A variation of the 4-3-3 with Di Maria able to keep to a similar position to where he excelled last year, super energetic centre mid with Herrera, and still keeping the 2 striker format, whilst fitting Mata in,

Surprised if Mata is available the way he limped off. If he isn't, that would make Van Gaal's decision a lot easier, in simply putting Rooney there.

Otherwise picking 2 from 3 between Rooney, VP and Falcao with so few games this year will be hard work.

Is this our hardest ever line-up to predict?
You are most likely to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Rhetorical Questions 2014.
All jokes aside it would be nice to get inside van Gaal's head and see the process of deciding the starting XI.

    It's going to be that awful 3-4-1-2, but I'd love a 4-3-3.

Which ends up being more of a:

similar to 3 at the back when we have the ball, but without the three centre backs or number 10, which I much prefer. And it's easier to defend with a 4-3-3 template.
We lose the ball and Blind steps up, the centre backs move in and the full backs tuck back.
There would be ridiculous energy in the midfield three - a bit of everything.

Away from home I'd maybe have Valencia instead of Januzaj, but there should be no need for him at home to QPR.

Could still do with a couple of wingers (one with good pace) or a midfielder who allows us to play Di Maria wide.

That would be a truly absurd line up, if not altogether surprising considering how we lined up for the Burnley game (also absurd).

    Dig up stupid!
very hard to predict the line up for this
if we persist with the 5 (which i'm sure we will) i think Rafa-Blackett-Evans-Rojo-Shaw gives us an easy switch to 4 by removing either of the wing backs if we need to change up. or play Valencia in rafas places to avoid a sub altogether
really hope we see blind-herrera-di maria start together and begin a beautiful relationship. That 3 has enormous potential
with Rooney being capitano the only other question is RVP or Falcao to partner him
and what to do with mata of course

    Looking for the answers...
Christ I look at some of these lineups and it's like a muppet fantasy.

Our front line looks explosive, I can't wait to see some of the link up play once they all click.

    The big problem is the form if Van Persie and Mata, I don't think I can stand another borefest from those two in combination with Rooney. This could force the manager's hand otherwise ideally you would only start Blind because we effectively have no one else worth starting in that holding role. Myself I'd go with a front six of;
    ------------Blind------------
    ---Herrera--------Di Maria--
    -Rooney--Van Persie--AJ--
My motives are that I want Rooney as far away as possible from any playmaking duties, I think we need another ball career so Januzaj gets in ahead of Mata and I want Di Maria playing that cm role to give us an energetic and creative midfield combo that will help shield Blind's lack of physicality. Evans also starts, only because Jones and Smalling aren't available, and he will start alongside Shaw, Rojo and Rafael.

Rojo and Young are wingbacks, they would primarly provide width and obviously Di Maria would be allowed to go wide. Rooney, Mata and Di Maria would interchange of alot of position, not stay central all 3 at the same time, all 3 can go wide, but obviously Di Maria will do it most of the time.

Why not give Shaw his intro and put Rojo in for Blackett? Herrera is available, so why not start him instead of Mata or at least on the bench?
Shaw is still injured as far as I (we) are aware. If he's fit then he should play of course.

Edit: Lots of people putting Shaw and Herrera in their line-ups now. Was there an announcement that they'll both be fit for this game? I thought it might come a bit too soon for the two of them.

I first heard Shaw was out for about six weeks before the Valencia friendly, it'll have only been just over four weeks come the QPR game right..?

I hope you are not serious with that formation, RVP on that position, FLETCHER?!?!?
And no, it's not ideal for the 4-3-3 transformation, you would lose the whole midfield .. i can see Fletcher lost somewhere near the QPR bench, Blind on the LB, it would be a disaster.

I am not expecting some good team play just yet as we all know new players, even others need time. But i can see some amazing runs from Maria, a good pass from Blind, a strong tackle from Rojo and a bullet header from Falcao can really, really get the fans and players excited. I think in the game when the expectation is high like this one after amazing summer transfer, it can put pressure on players to preform. It happened before. But the quality is there and like i said, we just need some things from new boys to lift everyone up and then go from there.

Cant wait for some training pics!

If we play 352 and Shaw and Rafael are back I will be super happy, add Blind and take out the terribly out of form Young, Valencia and Darren Fletcher and we should have a completely different buildup which is what we're lacking.

    Falcao Rooney
    Di Maria
    Shaw Herrera Blind Rafael
    Rojo Jones Evans
    De Gea

Are we a serious chance of seeing that team ? I hope so. Rafael and Shaw should be available for selection, Herrera is back and the only doubt should be Jones.:drool:
