Two more goals for Greenwood today against Liverpool u18s. I can’t wait to see him in action for the first team. The most exciting talent we’ve had in the Academy since Pogba, for me.
He struggled in open play at times yet had a hand in all 3 goals and the red card, the sign of a good player. Two more goals for Greenwood today against Liverpool u18s. I can’t wait to see him in action for the first team. The most exciting talent we’ve had in the Academy since Pogba, for me.
He kicks equally well with both feet iirc. Some aren’t even sure if he has a favored foot.Anybody know why he takes free kicks with his weaker foot?
From everything I’ve heard, he doesn’t really have a weaker foot.Anybody know why he takes free kicks with his weaker foot?
Doesn’t look very weak.Anybody know why he takes free kicks with his weaker foot?
I've seen him taking pens with his right. He missed them from what I remember.Does he take them with his left on the other side of the box? How about penalties?
I feel that in the beginning he will play wide similar to how Rashford had been playing. And similar to him I think he can play as the wide forward on either side as he is 2 footed.I am pretty sure we could use his weaker foot for scoring some direct free kicks... He really, really is knocking on first team's door - however our attack in general is performing well recently, which of course make it hard for him. Too many attackers eager to play. Can Mason play as a right forward, by the way?
My word.Extended highlights vs Liverpool u18s. Forgive the music.
YOu noticed how the defenders spaz-out whenever Mason has the ball -- they just dont know which side he will go. That hesitation allows him to blow by them or creates a gap for him to shoot. For me he is the most 2 footed player I've ever seen. I mean even in today's compilation look at what he has done.
Mostly dribbles with left foot.
The cross/pass from left for the red card incident was with his left foot. BTW what a pass that was.
Then he is taking corners with his right foot and scoring 2 free kicks with his right foot.
And I didn't know he takes free kicks too.
I usually hate step overs because they seem more fluff, but love it when Greenwood uses it because of his two footedness. It's really effective for him.YOu noticed how the defenders spaz-out whenever Mason has the ball -- they just dont know which side he will go. It really does, doesn't it? You just know that when he does his little step overs he's gonna put in a good cross or get a shot on target. And most of them ends up in goals!I usually hate step overs because they seem more fluff, but love it when Greenwood uses it because of his two footedness. It's really effective for him.
Apart from yesterday when he tripped and fell on his face but he scored a couple so all's forgivenIt really does, doesn't it? You just know that when he does his little step overs he's gonna put in a good cross or get a shot on target. And most of them ends up in goals!
I think there's going to be quite a few making a step up next season so he'll likely be saved for the season after. Gomes, Chong and Garner are all further along their development which is a scary thing to say.If Ole gets the job full time I reckon it won't be too long before we see this lad make an appearance in the first team
I think he'll make an appearance before the end of the season. The issue is going to be how often he can be involved. Rashford got his chance because we had literally no other option at the time, that isn't the case right now and probably won't be for a while. If Ole gets the job full time I reckon it won't be too long before we see this lad make an appearance in the first team
Agree and I've watched Utd youth football for a long time. The biggest hurdle and hardest transition where most struggle is the move to the men's game (both physically and mentally). It's amazing how many it finds out....To be fair we have a great record. Last match we had three academy players starting in Pogba, Rashford and Lingard, and Pereira on the bench. United is the best top six club for young players. Tottenham a close second.
Caution is always wise. We’ve overhyped some very average players before. But even with that in mind, Greenwood looks as good as anyone I’ve ever seen in the academy.
Tbf that was more because the ground was soft and he lost his footing.Apart from yesterday when he tripped and fell on his face but he scored a couple so all's forgiven
Would love that. A mix of youth and experience. Something like this:Hoping for Doncaster, Barnet, Millwall or Wimbledon at Old Trafford in the FA draw. Surely we'd see Chong, Gomes and Greenwood making appearances at some point!
No way chong, gomes and mctominay all start. Actually doubt any of them would.Would love that. A mix of youth and experience. Something like this:
Romero
Dalot-Bailly-Jones-Young
McTominay-Fred
Chong-Gomes-Sanchez
Lukaku
If things go well let Greenwood have like 20-30 minutes as well, if not then bring on Rashford, Pogba and Martial to save the day
At home against Doncaster / Barnet / Millwall / Wimbledon while we're in a battle for top four so could do with resting some players? Why not? We did it against Reading and got by and these teams are worse. No way chong, gomes and mctominay all start. Actually doubt any of them would.
I could see Pereira and McTominay playing, not sure about Chong and Gomes. At home against Doncaster / Barnet / Millwall / Wimbledon while we're in a battle for top four so could do with resting some players? Why not? We did it against Reading and got by and these teams are worse.
Mctominay and Dalot were the only ones in that lineup and Chong got 30 mins (way more than these kids usually get which is 5 mins at the end)At home against Doncaster / Barnet / Millwall / Wimbledon while we're in a battle for top four so could do with resting some players? Well it doesn't matter anyway now that we've drawn ChelseaMctominay and Dalot were the only ones in that lineup and Chong got 30 mins (way more than these kids usually get which is 5 mins at the end)
Ole might well start one of them, he isn't starting 3.
