Matheus Cunha | Release clause met, transfer being finalised

Did United have a clear run at him or was anyone else interested? Seems like a player (like Mbuemo) who a few clubs would look at.

I suppose his position suits United's formation under Amorim better than other clubs playing 4-3-3/4-2-3-1?

I give it a week before he wants out :smirk: Sanchez only needed an hour!

Only joking, United need a bit of arrogance and swagger...great signing imo!
Be interesting to see how he and Bruno play together. If Bruno is still here that is

But doesn’t it all catch up to us. Like there might be a month where we have to pay for 3 signings because of instalments on them all etc. it’s like when you order stuff and pay monthly or whatever it all catches up
It may, but sure INEOS is banking on increased future revenue- perhaps club valuation and earnings due to higher expected performance.

No harm in added flexibility should any interest paid of outstanding fee balance is outpaced by future earnings.

That’s right as it’s over 5 year contract
Just to clarify...

PSR impact: transfer fee amortized over life of the contract (five years), plus ongoing wage expense

Cash flow impact: three transfer payments made over two years, plus ongoing wage payments

Not really heard any links but then again since the first mention just over a month and a half ago it feels like United and Cunha were both together in wanting to make it happen. With Mbeumo and Delap I feel they're more likely to go to Newcastle and Chelsea respectively.

Great to see us getting this done early. He will certainly offer a bit of unpredictability to our attack and hopefully we get a bit of our old fear-factor back. Excited to see what else we've got planned for the rest of the window.

Makes sense.

Delap is an interesting one. He's not a signing that fills me with fear, regardless of who signs him. Mbuemo is one who seems ready to make a step up. I was thinking he'd be an option for us if Salah's contract wasn't renewed.

I hope it’s not going to be one of those windows where we sort a deal or two out early and then feck around for 2 months until our next one.

Straight onto Mbeumo. Get it done.

I agree on both fronts. Think Delap is appealing to Chelsea and United from the cheap homegrown aspect – an area United is absolutely fecked in (just Diallo, Maguire, Mount and Shaw unless Heaton stays on) and Chelsea aren't much better.

By the sounds of it he only wanted to come here to propel us to the top again! Which is nice.

Going to be a great buy I think.

Some links to Newcastle early on but I think he had a clear preference for linking up with Amorim and for the role in this system so they moved on.

I take it we wanted this done quick so that the first of these goes into the current PSR cycle? Or am I talking bollocks?
As already stated, the transfer fee is amortised throughout the length of the player's contract regardless of the payment schedule. This'll only impact United's cash flow.

So it's only 12.5m that goes on this year's books anyway, gotcha

He had some genius moments. He wasn’t as needed as he came into an already great team.
Great player but he seemed to slow us down a touch. To go from tevez who was all action, to berbatov who liked the ball to feet and played the game at his own pace, i remember it just made us a bit more predictable.

He had his plus points though. On the ball you couldn't fault him, and he was clinical in front of goal. It just felt like we'd undone what we'd built by selling Ruud in favour of pace and interchanging with Rooney, Ronaldo and Saha, and become a bit more basic.

Good signing, will definitely score some goals for us. My question is I thought we wanted to spread the payments over 4/5 years? Looks like two and that’s a big chunk of our budget I’d imagine gone now. Not complaining much though as I said above, good signing.

Ruud was a clinical beast but I think it was him or Ronaldo.
Berbatov wasn’t world class and neither was Tevez but both great players and many levels obove what we currently have.

He got magic moments in him for sure but if you watch him for 90 mins you see his contribution is nothing except goals, could be another Rashford situation for us soon
