How seriously were we in trying to sign him up?
If we had had any chance I still don't believe we've missed him

OrWith the rumours that he is to play and learn from Chiellini I thought that maybe a thread title like “Teenage defender to be groomed by older man” might be apt.
Or maybe not
Not sure if serious. Bonucci has been poor since he left to join Milan. Anyone could bench him at this stage. Not sure if serious. There's a chance he will bench Bonucci. Maguire is not close to being at that level.
Poor by his standars, which were one of the best defenders in the world. He is still better than Maguire. Not sure if serious. Bonucci has been poor since he left to join Milan. Anyone could bench him at this stage.
I'm not sure about that.Serie A being “weak” is such a tired moniker, maybe 6-8 years ago, but it surely doesn’t apply now.
Juventus winning 8 scudetto in a row speaks more to their quality than the leagues. They’d easily compete for the PL title year in year out, Napoli would be a consistent CL team if they played in the PL, and Inter would be top 6.
Great move for both parties.
If I remember correctly, Napoli finished 3rd in their CL group and then went out to Arsenal in EL.Serie A being “weak” is such a tired moniker, maybe 6-8 years ago, but it surely doesn’t apply now.

Remarkable any on here deluded themselves into thinking we were ever in with a whimper. The Utd rebuild won't feature the obvious elite players of now and the near future. His choice is just underwhelming. Going to a league where no one watches. Mehhhh
He isn’t a Raiola player, Raiola was just involved with brokering this deal. De Ligt has a different agentI hate Raiola and think we should stop trading Raiola players, we have enough problems with him!
Never said we were. I can fully understand him going to Barca but not to a semi retirement league when you are a coveted 19 year oldRemarkable any on here deluded themselves into thinking we were ever in with a whimper. Yeah missing out on him proper stings,if only the club wasn't in such a mess then maybe we would have had a chance. Most would have De Ligt in their top 5 defender list, and most wouldn’t even have Maguire in their top 10 list. For most, there are some distance apart from the two players. Anyway, you are entitled to your own opinion.
Probably us @ £800k pw considering he's on around £400k ish now. The world has gone mental.Thought he would aim higher than playing in Seria A. If he does well, then a club from Spain/England might activate the release clause in 3 years.
So cheap it is painful, why did we have to blow our chance at champions league football when he was available. The fee is unbelievable given current market, great business.
ha ha .. can we offer a straight swop for Pogba tomorrowThat's pretty low. He'll move to Spain around that time. Brilliant coup for Juve though. They must be one of the favourites for the CL over the next few years.
Poor by anyone standards to the point where only Juventus were interested in signing him back... your opinion, very few share it.Poor by his standards, which were one of the best defenders in the world. He is still better than Maguire.
True but his wages are astronomical. The fee is unbelievable given current market, great business.
Napoli have played six games against English teams in Europe in the last two seasons and lost five of them. They would have no chance of getting top 4 in the PL and the rest of Italy would struggle to make the top half.Serie A being “weak” is such a tired moniker, maybe 6-8 years ago, but it surely doesn’t apply now.

So roughly £280,000 per week as a basic plus another potential 50% (£420,000 per week) increase with add ons (if they are achieved). Probably heavily based towards winning the UCL, I’d guess.https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jul/18/matthijs-de-ligt-joins-juventus-from-ajax-75m-deal
"Teenager could earn €460,000 a week after add-ons"
New tax system might also have an effect in landing these talents in Italy along with Raiola .So roughly £280,000 per week as a basic plus another potential 50% (£420,000 per week) increase with add ons (if they are achieved). Probably heavily based towards winning the UCL, I’d guess.
That’s a lot of money for a 19 year old. Imagine his next contract (assuming he continues to develop as one of the best CB’s).
And now you all know why players love Raiola. He may be a bastard, but he makes them all filthy rich.So roughly £280,000 per week as a basic plus another potential 50% (£420,000 per week) increase with add ons (if they are achieved). Probably heavily based towards winning the UCL, I’d guess.
