I'd take him for free, on his day he can be genuinely unplayable.

I don't think the morale is great down at Arsenal right now, he seems to be a winner and probably feels disillusioned at Arsenal, a bit like how Lukaku was at Everton. If he joined us who are more professional and have a great team chemistry, I think he will get back to his best and work harder. Wenger allows him to be a lazy fecker, Jose won't.

Saying that though he will probably end up at PSG for the easy life.

Wouldn’t be my choice, tbh. He’s no longer good enough to be carried in all facets of the game he can’t be arsed doing. I guess it might be a new lease of life for him. I’m not holding my breath, though.

Getting a £50m+ player (in today's market) for nothing is a no brainer. Worst case scenario we sell him after 6/12 months and make some money. Problem is, other clubs will be thinking the same thing.

I would be for this signing, especially if it's for free. He knows he couldn't get away with the half arsed performances he does now under Mourinho and I do think that a few years of him would be good. Certainly gives us more creative options which we have lacked at times (although not so much this season).

I wouldn't mind this at all on a free, I consider Ozil a bit of a luxury player who does pretty well if the team around him have some balls and work hard for the team.

Ozil on a free doesn't even need debating.. Only fear is I think we'll let Mata leave if we sign him and then plan to sign Griezmann too.. Though maybe with Barca in the market too after the Neymar fiasco we have a little less chance of signing him..

But Ozil would be great for Lukaku.. We need players of his quality if we want to win the champions league!

I think he'd do well with the likes of Martial, Rashford & Lukaku around him.

And also playing for a manager he actually gives a crap about.

I'd prefer Griezmann just off Lukaku though :p:devil:

If we sign Ozil, I think that could affect the Griezmann signing. However, if we let go of Mata and Mourinho isn’t happy with Miki, then it’s possible we’ll go for both. Ozil on his day is excellent, but I guess it’s worth trying on a free transfer.

Absolutely yes, even if only to piss off Wenger and Arsenal.

I'd rather throw more money at Sanchez or spend no money and add Andy Pereira to the playing squad.

Was he?

Edit: only go by Wikipedia, Ozil outdid Mata in the individual award department. Can anyone confirm regarding the German player of the year award? By the look of it Ozil dominated like half a decade  (must be someone trolling?)
It's a fan voting, he has a huge turkish-german fanbase that turn up in high numbers for these polls (similar to how Liverpool wins all those fan votings).

I would have Antoine Griezmann for 100M - rather than Özil for 0M. Griezmann is a 150M player and Özil is a 50M player so to speak, although the latter is hard to define these days. Özil is turning 29 in a fortnight and has been through everything in his career, and quite frankly I feel he is full (also of himself). Does not put down the effort needed and gives us when things are tough. He is a brilliant set-piece taker which could be good for Fellaini, Pogba, Lukaku et al - but his defensive capabilities are alarming. Griezmann is no defender either, but he is much quicker, has an eye for many more goals and is smart in his passing.

There is no room for both of them (albeit two different types of players) in my opinion - or is there? Mourinho obviously likes to play one winger (Martial/Rashford) with speed and risk, whilst being more cautious on the other flank where Mata for some reason has occupied his place since day 1 this season. More pragmatic and pass-oriented, letting Valencia bombard down the wing. On the left side we have a more cautious back in Blind or Darmian, before switching systems and allowing Ashley Young to roam the last few games.

Özil could be the Mata on the left, which means we would rest Mata and let Martial/Rashford play on the right - with Griezmann or Mkhitaryan playing in the middle. Squad and options, but I doubt it.

Onto Ozil, while it's subtle due to his style, he is indeed better in Germany shirt than he showed for Arsenal so it's likely the motivation issue. We can say Germany have players who can carry him unlike Arsenal, but I believe we do too, so IF Ozil is to come here, he would have better platform and his talent getting squeezed more out.
Ozil has regressed for Germany as well though, I just don't see a player with his attitude as a good idea, there's so much talent out there that have the hunger and the mentality that I'd rather see at United.

After their last game there were Arsenal fans complaining about Sanchez doing this exact thing.
They didn't on the AFTV vids I saw, they complained about him being too selfish and trying to do it all himself, not just giving up and letting the game pass him by as Ozil has done on numerous occassions.

Luxury player, hides in big games, does absolutely nothing without the ball, would add very little to the side Mourinho is building. I don't see it. Would not be at all surprised if Delaney's story is a case of the player's agent looking to drum up some interest.

The only reason I wouldn't mind this transfer is because it's free. But is he really better than Mkhi? We have other areas in the pitch that needs addressing. No.10 is the least of our worries.

Griezmann or Sanchez anyday over Ozil. If his signing affects Griezmann particularly, I wouldn't want him here.

I've got other doubts too - on his guts, his fighting qualities and temperament. I just don't see him like the fighter that Alexis Sanchez is.

Mesut Ozil for free?? Are you kidding me?? Take him lol...
1. for a player of his class, free transfer is like a christmas present!
2. Should he come in january, the time is crucial. Many injuries, half way through the league, CL knockout stage.. to have him as backup is like having a machinegun under your sleeve!
2. he played for JM before. He understand how the boss thinks, like, dislike, tactics etc..
3. He is premier league ready.. no need time to adapt
4. Lazy? If he is lazy, he will not even sit on the bench on match day!
5. This is MU, our fan base are bigger and scarier! Ozil will perform to impress ;)
6. Then we can laugh and thank Arsenal just like we did with chelsea for Matic

Lots of comments in this thread that Ozil is "slow". Do people not remember his race with Barry when Germany stuffed England?

Ozil has fantastic pace and is one of the most talented players in world football. He's pretty soft and years learning "mental strength" from Wenger hasn't helped, but I think he could be outstanding under Jose. On a free it's a no brainer.

Griezmann and Ozil for Zlatan and Mata in the summer would be a good move.

Ah yes, Barry. That nifty speed merchant.

Sell Mata and buy Ozil. Although I absolutely love Mata, Ozil is a definite upgrade on Mata in a playmaker role

Would welcome him open armed. Paying nothing for him is not bad either.

Wouldn't be my choice because I can't stand looking at him. The most punchable face in the league

I'm saying 'Yes' purely because the stepson has an Arsenal top with Ozil on his back. Anything he can bring to this United side is a bonus (Ozil, not the stepson).

In other words, "yes because I want my stepson to be pissed off."

Nice.

(I cant deny when I consider this possibility I do spare a moment to think about how my Arsenal supporting friends will take this news, and that does make me smile.)

Honestly I hope you're kidding.
I am not. I'm not denying that going forward Ozil is supreme. But in a team I'd rather have Mata or Mkhi. Their work rate is higher imo.

Ive seen too many games of Ozil drifting and not putting in a shift. He's not the Ozil we saw under Madrid anymore.

He is a magician at times!! A free transfer... goes without saying!! Sign him up!! He is a huge upgrade on Mata, who we could then sell for 40-50m and if Griezmann still wants to come, pay the 90m (€100m) buyout clause and we have signed 2 world class players to compliment our squad of growing world class talent. Can you just imagine our squad :O

These transfers put us right amongst the top and knocking on the door of the CL.
