Michael Carrick leaves Manchester United

Did as well as could be expected in these 3 games. He probably would have been the one coach I'd look to keep here until the summer at least but if he feels it's best to go now then fair play to him.

Sounds like he wants a bit of time away from the game but hopefully he'll get a decent chance at management in the future if he wants it.
 
A club legend is leaving club after 15 years of service and really sad to see some of the fans slatting him.
 
Thankful for Carrick's service as a player and recent stabiliser. However, the biggest thank you is for making the right decision to leave. A full managerial and coaching reset is now required and all the credit in the world to Carrick for realising that.

I take Lampard as an example, went to Derby, did well took them to the play off and then went to Chelsea, because he was a former player. Yeah, too big of a jump for him. He's still out of job? He was mention as Norwich manager I think but that didnt go through.
 
Seemed like he made the decision to leave with Ole but only stayed on until an interim was found. Would have been better for him if he had stayed on and get more exposure under different manager.

Red through and through. Interesting thing about the 3 matches that he took charge were all set up differently. Wish him all the best and hopefully he gets a chance in future to manage again.

Top man. Fantastic player for us and wish him every success in the future - he has the right temperament to do well.

I’ve heard he’s got a lower league (league one) manager job lined up in the not too distant future so I reckon this ‘rest’ could be a short one.
 
Carrick looked at home on the touch line and was giving the players directions throughout the matches. This alone was a breath of fresh air after three years of Ole looking confused on the bench while nightmares happened in front of him.

It might not be in the Premier League but he’s won himself a chance at another job somewhere soon. He could have a similar managerial career to Southgate or better.
 
A club legend and will be missed, it sounds like he has made the right decision for himself and his family. Lets hope he returns after some well deserved time off.

That's not really what I meant. I meant the self respect to not have himself forced on Rangnick. Go and make your own name not these jobs for the boys safespace the club is becoming.
 
There’s an easy calendar (for a normal team) till march, he could have got the job if remained as a manager

It was clear it was his decision to leave. He wants a break, took charge of a few games and probably thought he can get a managerial job somewhere.

He was looking to leave with Ole but helped the team out.

Fair play, all the best really.
 
I'm sure Carrick said he's not spoken to Rangnick. Rangnick confirmed today they spoke for an hour. Very odd.

He also said the players didn't know he was leaving but that hug from Bruno at the end very much looked like they did.

He had promised his family he would take a step back at some point for a break, after 15 years in the same club.

He was probably also pretty deflated after the final time with Ole. I bet he feels some shared responsibility.

He said he made the decision before speaking to him.

He said he hadn't spoken to Rangnick about tactics/player selection.
He couldn't reveal that they had spoken about his future in the team as that would raise questions of if Carrick was staying on, instead of putting all focus on the matches.

That hug from Bruno could have just as easily been cause he was done as interim manager. Or something they said between them when Bruno got taken off.

If the players knew before the game that he was leaving the club then probably more of them would circle around Carrick at the end. But I doubt he told them as again, he wanted their focus to be on the match.

I also get the feeling he wasn't necessarily enjoying things any more. He said he was looking forward to going to the game as a fan again and being around the club in that capacity.
 
Lets be honest, had Keane or Scholes been in a similar assistant management role ,and their colleague had got sacked, their ego's are far too big for them to even contemplate/consider that they too were a issue with where the club was heading if they were having a identical campaign.
 
15 years is a great innings tbf. Loved watching him as a player & unbeaten in his brief stint as manager. Looked a bit burnt out by it all in the post match, think the whole thing falling off the tracks took him by surprise but fair play he managed the team during this transition which would have been tough.
 
Class act on and off the pitch.

I hope he goes in to management as there is just something about him that makes me think he might be decent.

Right decision to leave and does so with his head held high after 3 good results.

I'm sure Ragnick was very much involved in official meetings they club just had to pretend otherwise as he hadn't got his permit.

The same reason why we can't allow Ole to learn his trait at the expense of the club. We might make an exception during good times, for example if during SAF last 5 years he took in one ex United players as understudy, something we can afford. But now? When we're already on crisis? You are making good points and I agree. Weird part, with Carrick, was that it wasn't club/Rangnick who asked him to leave, it was him and his ego who decided they were too good to be an understudy.

The riff raff thread was a disgrace and Carrick should be treated better than that. Having said that calling him a club legend is an overstatement since (as a player) he was nowhere near midfielders like Keane, Robson and Scholes. He happened to play alongside Vidic, Rio, VDS (at the back) and Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov (at the front). He made simple passes and read the game decently. He really didn't stand out that much. The funny thing is that Carrick (after a run of three games with a positive outcome) walks away more respected than Ole who contributed much more as a player (as an impact sub) and had some good long spells as a manager. Despite this three games Carrick was still a part of the same coaching staff that failed alongside Ole
 
He resigned because Rangnick wants to bring his own people in.
Of course we all wish Carrick well.
But I am very encouraged by the professionalism of Rangnick.
I saw his first interview.
The key word is "control".

The mutants got lucky with him.

People don't always tell the whole truth. If Carrick says he's spoken to Ralf then everyone will say Ralf is picking the team. For his own image its better for Carrick to say that he is the one that dropped Ronaldo, Fernandes, Maguire etc and still got results.
