Olise isn't a wingy winger. Hes really a wide midfielder like Strachan or Beckham.

Lots of clubs want him and he very likely has a release clause. So you aint gonna fob us off with your rejects in part exchange unless they are massively discounted,
And the other clubs fringe swapsies look better prospects than yours.

Personally would rather we get in the DOF first and then start buying players.
This. Otherwise, it's most likely we'd get rinsed, transfer fee and wages wise.

Like Antony on 200k/wk. It's just fecking criminal that need investigation.

With all due respect to Palace, AWB could do better than Palace and I doubt he would be okay to return either. Also he isn't a reject or fringe player for us. So yeah, if the other club fringe swaps look better go for it.

He's not a winger in the traditional sense, so I do agree he's more a wide midfielder rather than a winger.

But imo, I think we should make a attempt for Nico Williams from Club Athletic. He has the ability to play on both sides and it seems he's the one the scouts have put forward as the player to sign.

He's a good player, but I'm not sure we're a good team for him. As displayed in the clip below, he's reliant on runners to combine with, and a lot of fans will expect him to go on the outside. Hence signing 21 year old Nico Williams would imo be a better long-term investment.

He's certainly more direct and brave in hjs play than Sancho & Antony but as you say, won't work aswell without someone like Eze to bounce off.

He's physically more powerful in comparison to Sancho and Antony, but he thrives in the half space and requires runners to combine with. And Eze is a very good player in that regard, and has the ability to connect, combine and dribble with his team mates, which does help players like Olise.

But I just feel we should target a wide player who not only carries a threat coming inside but also carries a big threat in the wide space. And it's why I favour Nico Willians, because he's showing the potential to be that player on both sides of the pitch. I don't think we have a single wide player who carries top level wide space dribbling threat. For me the mark of a good player is when they standout in a game, but haven't assisted or scored a goal. It's why I was a big fan of Ryan Giggs growing up who was a winger that made a difference without goals and assists due to his ability to cause chaos with his dribbling ability in combination with his pace. We don't have anyone close to that ability and we need to close the gap in that regard imo.

The thing is, we went the "better long-term investment route" like 2 and 3 years ago... Don't get me wrong, this is not me criticizing going for who we went for (thats for other threads) but I think, we really tried to bring in a long-term solution for this position. I don't know Nico Williams, I know he is rated highly but that applied to the others acquisitions as well. Don't know the prices that thrown about but I'd rather bring in a steady player with a good reputation at this point. Doesn't have to be a world beater just somebody who can be relied upon. There are so many other positions to invest in, at some point we have to make the next step. Garnacho can play there too, potentially there is a player coming back from Spain. I think, at this point, we have to accept we lost and make do with what we have available. It isn't like the rest of the team is getting better on his own.

You make good points. I will have to watch some more footage of Williams as I've only seen the odd highlight really.

What do you think about Neto as an option? Very direct, tenacious and does not rely on the interplay you mention re Olise.

Played on the right of course he'll be cutting in more often that not, but I've seen him play well at LW too, and Garnacho has shown some promise at RW recently.

Injuries would be a concern with him I suppose. I haven't checker but remember at least two decent spells out for him while Wolves have been in the top flight.

I think with Sancho possibly leaving permanently, it opens the door for a new wide attacker. And I'm sure there's plenty of options, but from my limited understanding of the available options, I think Nico Williams with a €60m release clause looks a very interesting player who can play either flank.

But the priority positions to upgrade would have to be at CB and in midfield. And like I've said previously, we need to significantly raise the level of the team both physically and athletically without compromising on technical quality on the ball. And I think we might be able to do that along with signing a wide forward and another central striker with both Sancho and Martial possibly leaving.

The concern with Neto seems to be injuries, but he's a excellent wide attacker and his pace and directness is something we need imo. Having a option like him would make a big difference and he can provide a threat on either side.

Having pace is one thing, but having pace in combination with the ability to dribble, makes a wide attacker even more dangerous. I think Neto falls into that category, but his injury record has held him back, or I suspect he would've joined Liverpool by now. Klopp loves fast/direct players.

Yep he seems tailor made for Liverpool really. I took a look at his injury record and think it's too bad to risk personally. We need to build a team of athletically dominant, perennially fit players as an absolute baseline I think.

Reads like some internal strife between the scouting dept and whoever it is that wants Olise. INEOS? Making all this public isn't a good look if true.

Yeah he looks a too much of the right midfielder style for us. We need someone a tad more explosive if possible. He does have a lovely way of receiving the ball which seems to always create time and space for his next action. But ideally we’d have these qualities from our our number 10 allowing wingers to be more explosive. Instead Bruno can’t dribble and has little pace but is a chance creation specialist.

I don’t watch Williams too much but he’s always given me a young zaha vibes. Is that fair?

What we should be doing is identifying a starting CF with similar attributes (just more refined) as Rasmus then work on identifying players that would work well with them.

Olise might be one of those players, he might not be.

He’s a great talent but probably more a complementary piece to your star attacker. Like a Willian to your Hazard.

I’d love him for us but we already have a creative winger in Palmer.

Saw the comment "he's a left footed Grealish" which feels right, though a tier below Grealish. Just not it for me.

Nah, he's levels above Zaha. I'd say more like a more wingery version of Raphael Leao, can play either wing, can go inside or outside. He's the dream signing for me.

Williams is a good choice, although when he signed his new deal last month I assumed that was the end of that. Bakayoko is a similar profile, although I think Williams is better and more of a goal threat which we desperately need. I’d also prefer Neto to Olise, as much as I like Olise as a player. We simply don’t play good enough football for me to be confident in getting the very best out of him.

I’d much prefer Eze from Palace, who I think would transform us as a #10 here. He has so much of what we lack and is the player we need to replace Bruno.

Not sure Nicholas Williams is quite as good as Olise currently.

Different style player mind, but Olise is slightly the better player on the ball.

I actually feel Olise would be better playing more centrally, he is very silky on the ball and can make things happen.

Never watch Nico Williams play before but he has £43m release clause apparently and can play both flanks. Those two aspects already make him better value than Olise.

Nico looks electric. Enough of "tricky" right wingers with no pace, I know pace isn't everything but having a winger that can't beat his man on pace is a big disadvantage unless you have a proper pressing and passing system like Guardiola's.

Olise is definitely better on the ball. Williams has ‘clumsy’ feet, to a small degree. Nowhere near as graceful. But far more athletic.

Pedro Neto is probably the best medium in terms of skill and athleticism. Obviously Greenwood is the best player by far from a a footballing perspective.

Lets be honest...the media know feck all 99% of the time. No need to get overly excited or negative about Olise.

Don't see anything there that Amad can't do to a similar level if he actually 1. gets match-fit, and 2. gets some consistent PL football.

Agree with the conclusion that he's more of a wide midfielder who relies more on combinations than one on one ability to get past players. He's a better, more physical Amad. Given that we already have that profile in Amad, it makes sense to go for Nico Williams or Pedro Neto. I would prefer Williams given Neto's injury record.

Williams can play on both sides and what I like is that he has both athleticism and pace. He is a good dribbler, proficient at pressing and has benefited from good coaching at Athletic. We lack athleticsim and pace in our squad overall, so transfers should be geared towards addressing this.

Yeah. I'm also not convinced that Amad is the right type of winger for what we want to reach a top level either, but I'd rather just go with him than spend big on Olise. Much simpler trajectory for a more direct winger with more pace and strength like Nico Williams where I'd be all for signing.

In a perfect world we get Williams and Olise in while binning Rashford/Antony/Sancho

Williams/Garnacho and Olise/Amad would be a great quartet

He was out of contract this summer so could have gone for free but to protect his hometown club he signed a new contract with a modest €50m release clause. That’s what I think has happened anyway, hence the persisting rumours.

If we can get him and also Rafa Silva on a free from Benfica for squad depth, that would allow us to part ways with Greenwood, Pellistri and Sancho or Antony - most likely making a profit in the process.

He’s not like Grealish, he is more penetrative in his actions on the ball and is a better creator from wide.

Would compare him more to Mahrez than Grealish actually.
