Moises Caicedo 'would love to complete move to Manchester United' if 19-year-old Ecuadorian wonderkid is given green light for £4.5m Old Trafford switch

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: 'Still the same situation about Moises Caicedo.

'Man United are in contact with his agents and "control" the situation - the player would love to join [them] and his contract won't be a problem. Now it's up to the club. It's not a done deal.'

Sounds like either the Ecuadorian club's asking for more and being difficult (a lot more than the reported £4.5M) and so the kid's chimed in to get the move over the edge --- something Sancho perhaps in hindsight should have done.

Or the whole story's at it's in a very early stage of a fishing expedition on his agent's part. :annoyed:

Or youre over thinking it and Romano is doing what he does and trying to make this into a saga drama.

Could the delay just be that the transfer window isn’t even open yet?

Don’t think we’ve ever announced someone beforehand (maybe Memphis but the season had finished).

Apparently he doesn't have an agent as well, which probably makes it a bit difficult. I'm confident he'll be here in Jan

Put this on the transfer thread too. The journo is reputed to be the best source

I wonder why the British media haven't been all over this deal

Because he isn’t Sancho or Haaland. TBF some have reported it but too lazy to delve into the transfer or research the kid properly
He's a Manchester United signing. Unless he's some 14 year old he'll still attract attention.

Diallo and Pelletstri didn't attract a huge amount of attention either. Its not going to gain a lot of clicks.

U23's till summer do we think? That's assuming the deal goes through.

Can't see him coming here and getting many minutes right now. We can barely give minutes to Donny, Pogba isn't starting every game and Matic doesn't very often either.

There's only one United!
Watched the video of this player:

Great vision;
tackles like AWB;
seems already a star;
resembles Pogba;
4.5M is a snip and we should NOT lose him;
already plays with the national team;
he seems ready for the first team.

Get him now please. :)

British media is a bunch of shites anyway. I prefer YouTube media, the hardest part is when it's British YouTube channel that publishes his clips then I don't know what to say about that.

Last summer all eyes were on Jadon Sancho who eclipsed every RW signing we could have made. I also think that we left it very late for Diallo. Which explains why we weren't able to sign him on time for his work permit to pass through + why he was days away from joining Parma on loan.

Returning to Moises, the boy is attracting UK Media's attention but the wrong type of media (ie Daily Mail, the Sun etc).

Jaimie Jackson of Guardian and Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic have alluded to our Interest in Moises they seem to be credible British Journalists when it comes to United.

For the record, I hope that we sign him. It's the type of player I wish United sign.

If memory serves me correctly, RvN (before failing the medical) and Hernandez were both announced several weeks before the window, both after Champions League exits.

Therefore, I doubt the delay in announcing anything has anything to do with waiting for the window and has more to do with the deal not being done yet.

Due to the fact Diallo on received an Italian passport quote recently, I don’t think it would have mattered when we signed him.

If United were serious in signing Diallo then Atalanta wouldn't have negotiated his loan deal with Parma. Parma is a small club but they have one of the finest youth academies in Italy. They are also specialised in polishing talent on other club's behalf. They did it that for many many clubs including Inter (Adriano), Atalanta & Juventus ( Kulusevski) and even us (Rossi). No club loves to screw them up.

So here is what I believe had happened.

A- United scouted Diallo for at a year (confirmed by Atalanta). I believe we were interested in him as a 'Pellestri' like reserve.
B-We offered them a low fee that reflected A and we were told no
C- Things started to turn sour with Sancho as Dortmund insisted on a ridiculous fee
D- Atalanta were set to use the Kulusevski route (ie loan Diallo to Parma and hope he does well)
E- Dortmund didn't move an inch so we went to Atalanta with an offer they couldn't refuse.

I’m not saying that we didn’t panic, I’m just saying that if we had signed him earlier on in the summer we still would have had the same issue re work permit and passport.

Well him, Diallo would be counted as a January signing and I think we will want to try and get a CB if possible.

Seems that Rojo / Jones will be let go if we get a replacement.
Doubt replacements matter for those two. They've not been registered for competitions along with Romero. Actually, I think Rojo was registered for CL but not sure and can't bother to check. They're not in our plans and Mengi/TFM would play above them if we needed to play a CB.

If we have to wait until the window opens, we might as well not do the deal at all. I'm not one of the impatient 'give it to me instantly or else I don't want it' type of guys, I'm really not but this has gone on for long enough. Woody what are you doing?

How much did Sancho cost prior to joining Dortmund?
Yeah, I guess it's not just Italy. For every Sancho, Rooney, Cesc, Kroos and Gotze on this list there's a guy you'd feel okay paying 20M for but not about paying 50M for like Veloso, Sahin, Edouard, Meyer, Bergwijn and then one you'd have wasted even 20M like Aleksic, Ebecilio or Mitrushkin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_European_Under-17_Championship#Golden_Player_Award

I dunno, still seems like someone should have offered more for Sancho with a year left on his deal. Like why didn't Leicester or Everton offer 20M and a starting spot for him? They were definitely fielding one below standard level winger back then (Ghezzal or Gray and post-Palace Bolasie type fellas).

I guess my point is teams should be more adventurous in what they'll pay for the top prospects relative to what they pay for established players. You can always try to loan out the guy and get money back if it's not working like Chelsea do.

Be a good idea to unfollow if it’s hurting you dude....
I would have to block most users on the caf seeing as most still take his word as gospel.

Unless you mean unfollow Romano on Twitter? In which case I already had a long time ago.

He actually sounds like a Fred replacement, as apparently he's not really a tackler but is strong in ball retention and moving the ball up the field (so like an Arthur or Pjanic or Modric type?). Maybe the plan is to sell Fred in a year or two and buy a proper DM, or just have proper depth:

--------------Bruno (VDB)---------
Fred(Caicedo)--DM(McTominay)

with Pogba and Matic going, looks a proper midfield!
