Monkeypox alert in Spain after 23 people show symptoms

In humans, the symptoms of monkeypox are similar to but milder than the symptoms of smallpox. Monkeypox begins with fever, headache, muscle aches, and exhaustion. The main difference between symptoms of smallpox and monkeypox is that monkeypox causes lymph nodes to swell (lymphadenopathy) while smallpox does not. The incubation period (time from infection to symptoms) for monkeypox is usually 7−14 days but can range from 5−21 days.

The illness begins with:

Fever
Headache
Muscle aches
Backache
Swollen lymph nodes
Chills
Exhaustion
Within 1 to 3 days (sometimes longer) after the appearance of fever, the patient develops a rash, often beginning on the face then spreading to other parts of the body.

Lesions progress through the following stages before falling off:

Macules
Papules
Vesicles
Pustules
Scabs
The illness typically lasts for 2−4 weeks. In Africa, monkeypox has been shown to cause death in as many as 1 in 10 persons who contract the disease.

Although typically thought of as spread by respiratory transmission it is presumed to have been largely spread through sexual interaction in this outbreak.
It's spread seems to have been more successful via this mode than would usually be the case.
Some think it may hang around longer if it manages to penetrate certain societal niches.

To be fair a sexual encounter is going to have a high likelihood of enabling transmission via respiratory droplets.

The link to homosexual encounters is sensational at best.

My wife has spoken to two patients with it in the US in the last 24 hours. One was a diplomat to a country in Africa and one had gotten back from a vacation.

It's quite hard to spread unless you have sexual contact with someone.

Fortunately @esmufc07 has a kind of default natural immunity there.

All 13 cases under investigation in Canada are in my home province.:mad: Go feck yourself whoever you are for spreading that shit when we have been trying so hard like a bunch of people with OCD for 2 years to not spread COVID.

This is a myth.

How do you get it?

"Primarily, from an animal bite, scratch or contact with the animal's bodily fluid. Then the virus can spread to other people through coughing and sneezing or contact with pus from the lesions".

Physical contact is a well known risk factor but it can also spread via respiratory droplets.
