I can't remember if it was on here or somewhere else but I read someone posting a good manager could easily have them winning 12-15 games by the end of the season, & I was thinking, are you mad? There's only 30 games left, they've won 0 from 8, they look poor, you just can't switch form on like that. Even if they really strengthen in January that's another 10 games or so further down the line.
madness, that's like a team on 4 wins now qualifying for Europe in 6-7th position, might be wrong but in the last 10 years can't think of a club with no wins by mid October being out of the relegation fight come April, I'm bored at work so might check last team season and see how many teams who were in the bottom 3 after 8 games got out of it.
last 8 season 8 seasons after games
2021 Fulham - West Brom - Sheff Utd - all went down
2020 Watford - Norwich - Everton - Watford & Norwich went down but Everton already had 2 wins even though 3rd bottom on 7 points - Bournemouth dropped in who had 11 points after 8 games
2019 Cardiff - Newcastle - Huddersfield - Fulham Dropped in - Newcastle finished Mid Table with 13 wins though they had won 0 out of their first 8 (Rafa's last season)
2018 Palace - Bournemouth - Leicester - none finished in bottom 3 but Palace and Bournemouth without strong finishes we're in the relegation fight for most of the season
2017 Sunderland - Swansea - Stoke - Sunderland only 1 to go down but Swansea had to win 4 of last 5 games to stay up
2016 Newcastle - Sunderland - Villa - Sunderland stayed up, Newcastle won 3 drew 2 of last 5 but still went down Sunderland stayed up by 2 points and we're also undefeated in last 5
2015 QPR - Burnley - Newcastle - Newcastle just stayed up, QPR and Burnley both relegated, Mags were in relegation fight all season
2014 Sunderland - Palace - Norwich - Sunderland won 4 of last 5 to stay up Palace comfortably stayed up
So it's possible but I just don't see 3 worse clubs, basically Newcastle are in a battle with Leeds, Watford, Burnley, Palace, Southampton for 2 places as I'm classing Norwich as relegated, things obviously change but I just don't see the likes of Villa, Brentford, Wolves being dragged into a relegation fight this season.
Palace - improving under Vieira and look to have enough goals and don't lose many, just need to change draws into wins.
Soton - they look more of a team than Newcastle, already played and done ok against West Ham, City and United and should pick up enough points
Watford - in same mess as Newcastle but at least they have a manager now who knows the league, it's a good chance Newcastle could finish above them though
Leeds - struggling but have enough decent players and a decent manager you'd think they can get out of it, currently missing Barmford
Burnley - They are losing by the odd goal but you'd think Dyche will be able to keep them up, normally a solid defence, not sure if they've had any injury issues but they played well against City last week and it was closer than the 2-0 suggested.
I honestly think if they lose to Palace they're in a relegation fight until at least april just looking at the 7 or 8 games after that
