They aren't letting Bret Mckenzie and the Muppets perform their nominated song. Oscars are dead to me.

I don't like the Oscars. They're so shit. It's basically "Who's best at stuff according to middle aged white men". How can a movie get a nomination for Best Movie and a director not get a nomination for Best Director? That's basically the same thing. Director is the movie if it's a good one. If it's got a good cinematographer and actors as well it can be a great one. But it can't be great if you've got great actors, script and shitty directing.

I want Baron Cohen to go as his new character. That's about it.

Gary Oldman deserves the Best Actor award though it looks as if he is going to join the list of individuals who somehow went a long time without winning anything at all, if at all.

I have always wondered that myself.

Tree of life is a mess and that's the only one I've seen from the nominees.

I wonder if the horse nonsense will win anything. Looks incredibly generic. Spielberg is not even trying anymore.

Senna wasn't nominated for best documentary so I'm mildly peeved at the Oscars for now.

Hope Gary Oldman wins though.

Might be reasons for that. The are some rules about a movie being have to be shown in certain theaters in America to be able to count in the Oscars. If it didn't do that it can't be nominated.

Don't know if that's the case mind you.

Oldman would be a decent shout for best actor. Meryl Streep will surely win best actress again although Rooney Mara gave a great performance as well but the character she played probably wasn't likable enough to win.

This man is really due an award.

I think Cristopher Plummer will win it though, who also deserves one.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is shit though. Do you go in for the whole "he's due for one" thing, or do you not think an Oscar win should count for the actual film in question?

I've heard the film is gash but that his performance was great, after all it's the performance the award is based on. I don't think he should get one just for excellent performances in the past but he deserves to have an Oscar in his resume and now's the ideal time!

This Artist movie, it's quite rubbish isn't it? It's a fecking silent black and white movie, do they give away Oscars just because you've managed to make a weird movie?

Yeah that Charlie Chaplin chap was rubbish and weird as feck.
He created these movies at a time when no other technology was available. It wasn't weird at all, I can't comment on rubbish part because I've never watched any - he was apparently very good, or so I am told.

I can understand people not liking it being a silent film but what's wrong with black and white?

Who knows, ask such people would Schindler's List have been better in colour, or the Longest Day, or Casablanca.

Or Raging Bull, I'd imagine the vast majority on here loved it and it did look great in black and white, as pretty much all of the ones I've seen do. Truffaut said it looks more artistic.

Black and white is fine I guess if there's any point of making it that way. Silent is plain weird.

Did anyone catch Sacha Baron Cohen as The Dictator spill ashes of Kim Jong Il all over Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. Apparently Sacha has been escorted out by security for the Seacrest stunt.
