How you don’t give best actress to Blanchett for Tár is beyond me.

EEAAO felt like a Marvel movie in all but name, disappointing to see it lauded so much. Hype sells I guess.

Happy for Ke Huy Quan. My guy couldn’t land a role in decades then stormed back with an oscar. Inspirational.

Everything Everywhere was a decent movie but best of the year?? Who picks these movies anyway?

I liked EEAAO (yee-haw) and I'm really happy for Short Round!

People will always find something to bitch about, but these days it's rare to see a Best Picture winner that is loved by both critics and large audiences. This was a return to the Oscars of the 90's. A time where multiple box office hits would be nominated for best picture.

I thought Everything Everywhere was great fun but cmon, it was just a bit of a laugh. Far better films lost out. What a load of nonsense.

The Oscars are overcorrecting too much and now almost every Best Picture winner is a low to mid-budget "plucky underdog" that wouldn't have gotten a win twenty years ago. Then everyone can hoot and holler about how surprising the choice was.

EEAO, Coda, Parasite, Shape of Water, Moonlight, Spotlight, The Artist... The movies aren't necessarily bad, but this kind of 'offbeat' winner has become its own cliche.

EEAAO is not an overcorrection. 25 million is a small budget compared to Marvel of course, but it's not exactly dirt cheap. But more than this: it actually did well with large audiences!

This is a classic middle of the road winner. It's closer to Forrest Gump than Moonlight(for instance).

Don't think The Artist and Spotlight fall under the same category as the others, the latter is definitely not offbeat. I agree with the general point though and something very noticeable since 2016.

Definitely, most films about WW1 are from the allies perspective. This one is from the Germans, it’s really good, quite sad but shows the reality that is trench war fare. Brilliant film for me.

Wow that film must be good if it won and it's not even about racism, trans rights and/or the war in Ukraine.

I must have forgotten the scene in Forrest Gump where Forrest jumps into a giant butt plug.
I meant tone and wide appeal

Of course Forrest Gump had a wider appeal than EEAAO. But on a range from pure arthouse to Marvel trash, EEAAO falls somewhere in between. Much like the Best Picture winners of the 90s and early 2000's, like Forrest Gump, Titanic, Gladiator, Braveheart and Silence Of The Lambs.

You say "it actually did well with large audiences," but most Best Picture winners do. EEAO made 100 million, Parasite made 260 million, Spotlight made 98 million, Shape of Water made 200 million, Green Book made 300 million, etc. Even Moonlight made 65 million. It is extremely rare for a Best Picture winner to do poorly with audiences.

I switched EEAAO off after about 30 minutes, I was bored

I hate having to write it all out too, or even say it all in my head.. its too much effort

I'm struggling to read the acronym in anything other than Freddie Mercury's singing voice.

I’ve heard it’s very good which is the opposite of every marvel film.
It's better than a Marvel movie, for sure.

But it is way, way too long for what it is (140 minutes), most of the set pieces drag.

The humor is also very "oh so random" and is going to age about as well as I CAN HAS CHEESEBURGER memes.
