Pathetic fans booing Maguire

I suppose it comes down to personality. But surely sooner or later the type of cheering he’s receiving will start to make him feel like conjoined fetus lady from South Park
Well that's fine. What matter to his career here is EtH's thought, i.e. how often he'll play.

What else is a supporter to do to show his or her displeasure with a player? Contact Maguire on his social media? Write a post on Redcafe? They are allowed to let Harry Maguire know they are fed up with his mistakes. I wouldnt be booing him but i certainly wouldnt be clapping or cheering so Harry Maguire wouldnt hear the boos. Some fans want to hold him accountable for his mistakes while another group of fans just feels like he deserves support, no matter all the mistakes he made, just because he is a Manchester United player. In a normal work or life situation people are going to be held accountable for their mistakes but football doesnt always work like normal situations.
I agree, if people want to boo they can. Don't feel sorry for someone stealing a living getting hundreds of thousands a week. I wouldn't boo myself but can understand fans fed up with mistakes practically every match. Shouldn't be anywhere near the club.

It appears ETH’s thoughts are clear to everyone except for Maguire. But if we give Maguire some credibility then we have to say he doesn’t care and is happy to be 4th or even 5th choice and just get the pay check and other benefits of being a United player.

The biggest concern is that he actually cares about his England spot. That will only like come into question when the window is closed. Can you imagine the fans reaction if during the season he decides he’s unhappy? It’s like he had the whole of last season and this summer to read the writing on the wall and do what was best for his career and United.

The defence of poor behaviour is really tenuous at best.

First of all it's not just the booing but the online vitriol and abuse that's gone completely out of hand but you have people defending it and saying he should man up instead.

Then, there's the booing at every game at every touch even when he's not made a bad play. Let's say you're a real United supporter and want the team to do well during the match. Would booing him at every touch help the cause even when he's not put a foot wrong (yet)? Or do you think Maguire still genuinely doesn't know he's not wanted by the most fans, and needs to be told in an unconstructive manner? This is a United player who has been professional and wants the club to do well, not a Di Maria type.

The latter I can empathise as some just need an outlet to vent their frustrations, even though I disagree. But not the former.

The booing of him needs to stop. It’s not really his fault he is shit, it’s not really his fault he gets game time. He is still human he still has a family. Majority of the owns booing are probably to first to campaign or claim they struggle with mental health.

need to go grow up a little

Does the booing need to stop? It depends on what's holding up the transfer. If it's Maguires wage expectations then absolutely should continue the booing. If it's the transfer fee then we probably should stop so West Ham things he's a good player.

It's his fault to not learning to keep it simple. Doing all those high profile mistakes which could have been minimized if he tried to stick to the basics at least to minimized his errors which he made a plenty.

There are a reason why defender making forward runs interception is a thing to behold because you need proper timing and it's a risky move to pull off, something Maguire dont actually have the skillset but can't seem to stop doing for whatever reason.

Maguire hasn't covered himself in glory ever since that Greek incident. As I've mentioned in the thread I want him gone ASAP but won't boo him if he's on the pitch as he's not at fault for being crap.

That having said, I can understand some voicing their frustration as he's getting 200k per week and he's reaching Taibi level of incompetence.

I also hate it when some fans target United fans based in the USA or Ireland, considering we've heard ST holders booing Fellaini not so long ago at OT and I'm pretty sure we will hear more boo's at OT if Maguire is still here come the end of the month.

Wait...who's fault is it for him being crap if not his own?

I’m not sure why fans should boo him for being a limited player. He’s not disrespected the club in anyway (like say Lukaku or Pogba) and it’s not his fault that managers keep playing him despite his limitations. Same thing happened with Fellaini who despite being limited never disrespected the club but got booed

Totally agree.

You can't boo him into Usain Bolt.

bingo.
Also I don't get the suggestion that he's stealing a living. It's not his fault that he got offered that contract.
There's really no advantage in booing the players anyway. If anything it only makes things worse as the players confidence got worse, and it just put more attention on his mistakes for interested teams

All said and done, I can see the boos stopping because there's no chance he starts another game for us.

Do fans really believe he will become better or more confident if they boo him?
It is pathetic and embarrassing, Maguire or any other player

Trivialising domestic abuse. You should get a warning for this type of bollox tbh.
Face 80,000 odd people supposed to be your supporters booing and screaming abuse at you while trying to do your job, millions revelling in your suffering online and taking their pound of flesh, and come back and tell me how trivial that feels.

How dead inside does one have to be to think this is Ok?

Not saying it's the same, but it's still abuse and can have lasting ramifications on the victim

Think the booing is certainly not warranted.

He did not set the fee, nor is he being unprofessional. He is just not very good.

Guaranteed to score a winner for West Ham (or whichever club he signs for) against us.

I don't like the booing but it's quite understandable imo. If a player plays well he gets the applauses, if a player plays badly he gets the booing. He's been bad for more than a year.

There's being bad and there's being bad and cost your team points again and again.
Lindelof isn't exactly a great defender but he never gets booed.

Think this is why he makes so many errors tbh.

We're kidding ourselves to say it doesn't affect him. Of course it does. It affects anyone.

He's well aware that if he gives the ball away in a dangerous area fans are going to get on his back the rest of the game. That only puts him under more pressure. Yet when Dalot did it in Saturday, there was three initial frustration and that's it.

The initial frustration once giving it away? That's fine. The booing of every touch since the mistake isn't.

The treatment of Maguire is a stain on our fanbase. We, like any other club, loves to think that we have one of the best sets of supporters. This proves that we do not. In fact, we are one of the worst.

If you have a look at how Madrid and Barca fans treat their own players we're actually saintlike here imo.

Tbh I don't get the idea why fans are not allowed to or should not boo the players from some of our posters. Good players get the applauses, bad players get the boo. It should go both ways that's fair imo.

Tbh I don't like booing but it does help in maintaining our supposed standard I think. If you don't want to get booed you should start playing better. If you can't play better just leave. Fans pay to watch you it's not free.

Booing players has absolutely no positive effects whatsoever. It doesn’t “maintain standards” at all, it either demoralises them or makes them not give a shit anymore.

He should change his name to Harry Booguire, then it'll feel like they're chanting his name.

Aren’t they booing him more as a signal that they want him to go? Like when fans would boo the Glazers? Not saying I condone it, far from it.

I swear, people are tying themselves into knots because a player got booed. Disapproving is absolutely fine, but feck me, the whole thing has been blown so out of proportion.

The abuse isn't cool, but some booing? It's hardly the end of the world.

I think he’s been bullied to quite frankly disgusting degree in the past 2 years, being not likeable shouldn’t be a thumbs up to make the feckers life hell.
It’s no surprise he’s gotten shitter and shitter as the abuse continues, must be an awful scenario for his mental state.

We’d all be screaming blue murder if a regular Joe Bloggs had to suffer such abuse, the cnut gets mentioned in African politics ffs, but when it’s a footballer we bizarrely think it’s fair game.
The least you’d expect is a little bit of backing from your own fans, but his own fans are the worst.

Odd.

We should agree to disagree then. It might be not positive in the match, but in the long run it does imo.

If you don't want to get booed again start playing better. If because of that you don't give a shit anymore then it's clear you should quit and leave. If a club want to win and achieve things that's how the mentality should be. We should stop treating the players who getting millions a year like some teenages in junior high. Might be the reason why Madrid won 3 CL in the last decade and we won feck all. But hey ho we can sit on being the nicer fans and 'supporting our players even if they're shit'. Being nice most of the time doesn't get you anywhere.

Then they don't have the right mentality for the job.

There have been great players in the past who have been vilified for whatever reason, but have come back strong. Not just in football, but in many sports.

It's part of elite sport. They wouldn't earn their millions per year if not for the sport attracting the interest of billions of people around the world. If they're happy to take the money and fame that comes with it then they have to accept the criticism too. For the record I don't believe personal abuse and insults are fair game, but booing I have no problem with. It's certainly not the abusive and bullying behaviour that some try to make it out to be. It should should be used as a fuel to self motivate and prove the doubters wrong

Which Man United players have been boo'd by his own fans and came back strong?

Not saying there aren't any, just curious as an oppo fan.

The issue is, we're trying to understand the behaviour of absolute morons.

He doesn’t deserve that hate but he’s the worst defender in Man Utd history, worst signing in history, and he was the most expensive defender ever, and he made it to Captain and was kept as Captain for seasons. I have no idea how any of that was possible. And now he's essentially trying to hang on to the club and his wages. He is fecking atrocious and was insulted by the £20M offer. He should think himself lucky anybody thinks he's worth half that much. Nothing but mistakes that cost goals time and time again. He should change the club this summer or continues to be a meme factory.

He may not be remembered as the greatest player but he will surely not be forgotten and that’s what matters.

No he’s not get a grip
