Pep's spending is insane (£941m and counting at City)

The pick of his sold players is Bony and don't even know what he does now.

I'll be more impressed by the man when he does something in management that I don't genuinely think I could do myself
what's stopping you then? get you badges, get a coaching role and go for it.

Are they really amongst the best teams in Europe?

They did lose to the 4th placed PL side
Barcelona lost to the 3rd place side in a weaker league and then Liverpool beat the side that eliminated Barca. Barca are easily one of the europes top sides.

Genuinely I think only Real, Barca and Bayern are clearly better than us. For the rest its a coin flip (PSG, Atletico, Juve). Thats why all those sides ourselves included are capable of going out to anyone or hammering anyone on a given night. Over 90 or 180 minutes anything can happen with those teams, thats what makes this Real so special. They find a way, found a way past Juve when collapsing found a way past Bayern despite probably been the worse team over the 2 legs. This is what all the top sides bar Real are missing.

you sneaky little bugger. I will try and figure it out. As long as their name does not rhyme with "Dump" I don't care as long as they are ruthless richer than most countries and want to crush the competition into oblivion.
It does not rhyme with Drumpf

In fairness he had not really any worth selling.

The squad was too old and he'd never sell Sagna, Zabaleta, Clichy, Yaya etc.. All the outgoings were free because simply there was too many players sitting around too old and incapable of doing their job to bring in any money. You only have to look at where they ended up. Zabs and Hart at West Ham, Caballero as Chelsea's reserve. Clichy in Turkey, Sagna at Benevento. Kolarov etc.. we got a tiny bit of money for.

Its a similar situation to when you guys try to move on Young, Carrick (had he not retired) and Valencia. Good players once, average now but with no market value (although you might get a couple of million for Valencia).

As Thunderhead said we sold a bucket load of reserves not very often used players like Bony, and youngsters who were never going to make the grade.
That's fine. But the point is, what has Guardiola himself done that's special? I don't doubt he's a good manager and if he had a chance to prove himself, he probably would.

But take any half decent manager, say Chris Hughton, if you gave him a top 3 job and £300m to spend per season without needing to sell anyone. Would it be an amazing achievement if he won the league within 2 years?

Could Hughton win the Bundasliga with Bayern? Or the Champions League with prime Messi, Iniesta & Xavi?

Guardiola is probably lot better than Hughton, but he's made things as easy for himself as he could in his positions.

Im surprised that anyone would contest that. Yes they are one of the top 5-6 sides in the world at the moment, and we aren't.

I think your question yet again proves that we are too busy trying to find faults with City. Now is really not the time to mock them. We can do that when we beat them to the title or win the CL.

Fair enough. I agree that only a few teams are better than you right now

People hang far too much on the CL and use it as a criticism. In the end, the league is about sustained quality over a long period of time, whereas, CL, like any cup competition, is knockout, and is dependent on a much shorter run of games where quality as well as fortune, is more a factor. Even the best team in the world can have one bad game at the wrong time and suddenly they're out the competition. This is why you can have a dominant league side fall in Europe and an under-performing league side prosper in Europe. The variables and circumstances are vast.

Emery managed to lose with PSG...

Yes money and having the best players is 70% of the battle. Pep is not some genius 10 levels above other manager, he's simply up there with all the others at the top. In the end the players decide it. I don't believe for a second another manager could do what he's done this season, most definately not Hughton but I also think I don't Pep could have made the CL final with Liverpool.

Each manager has their own specific strengths imho and Pep's is give me a good team and even though I'll drop a few clanger, I'll win 80% of game. Klopp on the other hand is give me the underdogs and I'll have them punch above their weight. Jose will win with a strong defence

There is a reason Moyes failed at United, there is a reason Hughes didn't last at City. LVG's failings, even Pellegrini who took apart a great side over 3 years.

Pep is one of those managers like Jose imho who given the best or what he desires will win. I don't think for a second Hughton or Dyche could do that, very different jobs with different goals.

believer that Sancho will turn it around
Of course we played a part, but when people lay it all on City it irks me, the big big deals are more responsible. We've bumped up prices on middle tier players no doubt I had erased Mangala from memory and tell myself he cost the same as Richard Dunne.
Haha fair enough, mate. I agree it's not ALL on City. There are too many players in the market for it to be the fault of just one team.

It's a shame because Mourinho's building a solid side.. Pogba, Lukaku, Matic, Bailly and Sanchez are all good signings, the only one that's a bit meh is Lindelof.

But that's £300m spent over 2 summers, vs £580m for City and they'll blow us out of the water this summer again. Given that City already had a stronger squad with De Bruyne, Silva, Sterling, Aguero etc.. it's tough for us. Dunno if we'll be able to compete with that.

Crazy spending really and that’s not even factoring in the signing on fee’s, wages, extra £10 Man United tax we get quoted.

Seems the media try to turn a blind eye to all of this but it’s outrageous. How many highly priced attacking midfielders and center backs does he need?
City have, in recent years, walked away from deals where extortionate signing on fees, agent fees and wages have been demanded (Falcao, Pogba, Sanchez). Guess where they all landed?
We used to have to pay a premium to bring players in due to no CL or realistic hopes of top silverware but that all changed in 2011 and 2012.

why do you clowns think a guy in hong kong who spends his day searching ronaldo on deviantart has any info
Sahp-yat is 11 in Cantonese. Sahp-yat rhymes with Salmann (first two letters). It is Muhammad bin Salman. We'll be rich as feck. And use OT to behead criminals like they do in Saudi Arabia.

I for once, welcome our Saudi overlords.

Rumour is some unknown Chinese billionaire is trying to persuade the glazers to sell. Supposedly made a play at getting 8% of the club off the market but the Glazers still on 80% so unless they decide to sell then it’s somewhat worthless.
