No thread on him in the transfer forum which there probably should be at this stage.

If De Gea leaves then I feel Cech would be the ideal replacement. He's experienced, won all the trophies there is to win and is still a top GK.

Would be a top signing, but wasn't there news of him wanting to stay in London? And would Mourinho want to strengthen a potential title challenger?

Yeah but Mourinho despises Arsenal so I think we would get him over them.

We'll be weaker in that department next season regardless of who we sign tbf.

He wouldn't be. We already have a top-class keeper in De Gea. Might not sell to us because he'd rather we sign a weaker goalie than Cech though.

Talksport interviewed Jose and from what I heard, Cech has some sort of agreement with Roman about where he ends up next season so I doubt he will have any say on where Cech is playing next season, it sounds similar to the Mata situation.

Not as good as he used to be but still a top class keeper with loads of experience. Id be delighted.

Yea, it does seem similar to the Mata situation so I don't think Chelsea will have any issue selling him to us if he wants to come here (and if we want him to replace DDG).

If the club makes an appropriate offer, Mourinho and Abramovich won't stand in Cech's way. Petr has been extremely professional throughout his career, a relative modern-day legend for Chelsea - both on and off the pitch, so he has earned his share of goodwill, and they'd rather he leaves on amicable terms. Also, Jose and Van Gaal have an excellent professional and personal relationship, and that might even tilt the balance United's way vs Arsenal. However, if Wenger make an equivalent bid - agreeing terms with Cech might pose more of a challenge from a personal standpoint. He has been living in London for over a decade now, and his family is presumably comfortably settled in the city. Generally, footballers of a certain age take all of that into consideration; would he then rather favor a move crosstown to Arsenal ?

Anyway, that aside, from a strictly on the field perspective, Cech would be a quality replacement for De Gea. Not as comfortable with the ball at his feet but gets the job done with relative ease, immensely experienced both in European and domestic competition, still one of the best in the league, and not as big of a risk as some of the younger candidates who aren't used to English football, necessitating another steep learning curve like David's. Cech would pretty much hit the ground running and could be the #1 for 5-6 seasons, if not more.

I think the agent is playing clubs against each other. Being settled in London, Arsenal will be his obvious choice if they want Cech.

My choice if De Gea does leave as is looking likely. An experienced, top quality keeper would be exactly what we would need and Cech fits the bill perfectly in that regard, he could come straight in and do a fantastic job and with his age still being pretty young for a goalkeeper (in the grand scheme of things) theres no reason he couldn't be here for a good number of years. The big thing about him for me is he is a calm, composed keeper who inspires confidence in him from those around him, very much like Edwin did.

Top goalkeepers seem to have this odd little Indian Summer in their latter years. Probably got another gear left in him.

I'd definitely take him. He still looked very good before Courtois started to play for Chelsea, and was more a victim of Chelsea bringing in a top young goalkeeper than actually having declined. He could potentially have another 4 or 5 years in him, and he could be a bit like the VDS signing in that respect.

Difficult to tell as to whether Mourinho would be willing to sell to us since he'd probably want to ensure if we're losing De Gea that he's taking away one of our best options, but if he put in a decent offer, he may consider.

Jose said that weeks ago, not sure why people keep asking thus question or saying they'd never sell to us. Basically out of respect to Cech they are prepared to let him choose where he wants to go

This one will be tough as Arsenal are in for him and his settled in Lindon would give them the upper hand.

If we can get him I think his exactly what we need, a experienced PL keeper who is still up there amongst the best!?

If they sold us Mata, they'll sell us Cech. Just up to the player. He'd be mad, professionally, to choose Arsenal over us. We will be ahead of Arsenal next season and the years ahead.

Id love him here and he's still a top keeper but its true he was on a decline. It was evident last season. He let in quite a few soft goals by his high standards and was 4th in the league in terms of goals conceded due to errors. Still think he's got 2-3 years left in him though.

Tell me, Nostradamus, what are the winning Mega Millions numbers? :boring:

How many people said this last season? We are behind Arsenal right now, and unless we drastically improve over the summer, we will behind them next season too.

Oh, Petr Cech is magic
He wears a stupid hat
And when he saw Old Trafford
He said "Actually I fancy going to Arsenal instead, being settled in London and all that."

I think Chelsea would rather sell him to Arsenal if Cech refuses to leave England. Ospina has been good for them and Arsenal didn't finish third because Ospina was a weak link in the team. Yes Cech is better, but getting him isn't a move that will dramatically improve them.

On the contrary if we lose De Gea we have a problem and Cech would fix that. It's different to Mata because we didn't really need him and Jose probably didn't think he'd make a major difference in our rigid 442 at the time.

Well we finished 7th last season, so it wasn't quite so unreasonable. We're now only one position below them, and will invest more than them this summer. You seriously think we'll finish below Arsenal next season? Wut. Are you a United fan?

Don't think I said anything too unreasonable. I don't think Chelsea would refuse to deal him to us point blank, and I think it's fairly safe to suggest we'll be better than Arsenal next season.

I'd say you're both about at the same level. Arsenal are only a top keeper and midfield player away from being a serious title contender. You can actually argue that they're closer to being there than you guys are.

That's as much a measure of how strong your defence is than anything else.
