I'm going to run a poll for defender / midfielder / forward of the season.

Let's start with the defenders. Let's hear it.

Smalling for me :D

Who the feck is voting for Valencia?
There's always some plebs. People will vote for Evans too.

It shouldn't even be a poll. It's Smalling. McNair did well but come on.

Useless poll, it's obviously Smalling. Would be better if we had a thread to rank them.

Smalling > Jones > Rojo > Valencia > Shaw > McNair > Rafael > Blackett > Evans

Give peas a chance.
I voted for Smalling, because, come on. He's been by a country mile our outstanding defender this season.

I was only half joking when I said Ashley Young. He should be on that poll list.

McNair was almost my pick because he shut gobs of all journos who were questioning club's identity.

Obviously Chris Smalling. Great arc this season. From dressing like Bin Laden to becoming pillar of defense.

Why do people take the piss and vote for bollocks like Rafael? Take it seriously, man!

I voted for Smalling. Rojo would be my second choice then Shaw.

1) Smalling - By a large margin.
2) Jones
3) Rojo
4) Valencia - Just by being fit and able to play
5) Shaw
6) McNair
7) Rafael
8) Evans
9) Blackett

I know Thorpe has been let go, but still don't understand how McNair and Blackett got games ahead of him.

This poll should only have one option; Chris Smalling. Was our best defender the season before last as well.

2 votes for Rafael

Seriously the love for him here is ridiculous. Smalling by a country mile, I don't think anyone other than him was really good to be honest. Some others were solid, Valencia overall did a decent job at RB and doesn't deserve all the blame imo (but of course he is not a ideal RB and we need someone better).

Smalling. He was solid for parts of the season, and definitely our best centre back. Shaw was very good at times too and stronger in defence than attack, but did have plenty of injury problems.

This should be every bit as obvious as who our player of the season was.

Smalling #1 by a lot for me.

Injuries really did a number on our back four all season long.

Saying that I did think Rojo, Shaw and even Blind did well.

I think Valencia did a job but his positioning and overall lack of contributing to our attack were poor.

For some reason, I honestly can't recall much about our defence that season. I remember being terribly disappointed with the veterans (Rio, Vidic, and to a lesser extent, Evra,) but I have no recollection of how the rest of them performed.

Unsurprising. I think it was pretty dire across the board. Even Smalling got lots of stick for his poor attacking from right back.

2 votes is somehow symptomatic of a caf love in? Dear god.

Blackett was a lot better than some would like you to believe on here. But Smalling as been the most consistent this season.

4 people actually voted for Jonny Evans, I mean the man was a walking liability. I only hope they are rival fans.
