PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:0 Brighton & Hove Albion

Post-match discussion

Sat, 25 November 2017

I am watching NBC sports and a Brighton player just confessed that the defender involved said it was a brilliant call from the line assistant, the corner was the right decision.

Indeed.

I've seen a lot of Brighton this season and they're a very tough cookie to crack.

The usual RedCafe moaners will have you believe it's the end of the world but Watford will be far more open than Brighton were.

Arsenal always give you loads of chances too.

3 points, Spurs dropped 2 easy points and Liverpool or Chelsea will drop points this evening too.

Time for a beer.

It took an own goal for city to see them off despite having the better of it, they are a determined and well-organised team and are no pushovers.

btw I have not eaten peanut butter for years and years until today where I had it on toast with maple syrup. Coincidence? I think not!

Pochettino? Jardim? Marcelino if he keeps doing what he's doing at Valencia?

I agree this is a valid question but there must be managers out there who can serve up better stuff than this.

The same
Pochettino who drew 1-1 today at home to west brom???

Just saw interview with one BHA player, and when asked was it corner, he answered that he asked his teammate and he said it touched him before it went out. He also congratulated ref for seeing it.

3 points first, performance second.

We got the points, that’s the main thing. Would nice to have been more convincing but win above all else.

What stage in the season do you want to, you know, actually be entertained? Or is that not important to you? I see a lot of points first and thats the main thing, but dirge like today isn't why any of us watch this sport.

At home to Brighton, I am looking for us to really stamp our authority, like City would, like even Arsenal would. Yes I want us to win, but I'd expect better than today.

Yes sometimes we need to win ugly, win while we are shit, although many many things look so wrong in the team. Take that shit performance to Watford and we are fecked.

Don't know why some people keep saying we are million miles away than city
City scored against Brighton in 70 , we were faster than them by 4 minutes.

Lukaku work his ass off
Lindelof , young & matic positive
Rashford & valencia okay
Martial & pogba play below standard
Mata rubbish , zlatan better as 10 than him who would hv thought ? Me
Its because people keep judging our team on Pep's template and style. Not on Mourinho's template and style

Yes I did. Apparently not through the same Mourinho-tinted spectacles you did.
And they're Mourinho tinted why? Because I disagree with you? You're the one with the bias here, talking about how Mourinho can't get the team to play good attacking football when we have the second most goals scored in the league plus SEVEN 4-0 wins this season.

5 points clear of Spurs. At least one of Chelsea/Liverpool will drop points. Maybe Arse too. Some sort of pressure on City. Take the win and move on, but we need a kick up the arse.

Yet instead of judging us by OUR game plan the likes of you keep judging our team by Peps.

Not sure what you are getting at. I have judged us by our game plan or lack of it, hence why I'm saying that City are miles ahead of us as they are set out excellently and because they play to those tactics so well they are managing to brush teams aside. We don't really have set tactics it seems and that's why our games like today are often a hodge podge of nothing.

Absolutely rubbish performance, but three points is everything. Post-CL is always difficult, even if at home. Brighton played well, I guess. Lukaku shocking, lots of players not giving a shit.

Ok mate. If you're happy the sort of football we've seen from United this season, then I hope you keep on enjoying it.

Of course I want to be entertained, like I was last week against Newcastle. Are you saying you haven’t been entertained in any game up to now?

Unfortunately it didn’t happen today and it wasn’t a great performance but we got the 3 points which is the most important thing in my view.

Playing poorly and winning isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

I liked Lindelof's perfomance. I haven't been scared of every time he got the ball or when he catched long bolls. He looked confident, calm. Just what was needed.

That was a very tough game. Our midfield did well but attacking players weren't sharp and had a bad accuracy. They just failed to finish attacks. I don't know whether Brighton were well defensively organised or our attacking players were tired because of CL match but defenitely something was wrong with our attacking abillities.

This place is incredibly negative. If we manage to get a good attacker in January we can push City for the title and go deep into the CL. We would 100% have drawn that game last year and if we have a similar run over Christmas to what we had last year, we will be in a very strong position.

This 100%.

Not the most inspired win, but we won and hardly remember DDG touching the ball.

Give Young MoM, Mata ineffective. Lindelof better but doesn't still inspire me with confidence.

Take that, plenty of those sort of games over the years.

So if you're not entertained in one game that means you're not entertained in all of them or you were not in any of the previous games?

Lukaku is just poor as the main striker at the moment. He's unable to combine or link up play and he's awful in the air, which also means hold up play is non-existant. He's a poacher stuck in a classic CF body. It's really clear we lack a true creative AM to create chances for him.

Poor performance but happy with the 3 points... on to the next.

Never understand why opposition players come to Old Trafford and insist on riling up what was a subdued crowd. Just as you sense the crowd are getting frustrated a Brighton player rolls around on the halfway line in an attempt to waste time. Suddenly the fans are back behind the team and twice as loud. Same sort of thing happened at Spurs when Dele Ali decided to get into a confrontation with Ashley Young...

This is it.

Most posters including myself know absolutely nothing about BHA other than from Fifa, FM and today. Then some sit here and moan because we didn't win 99-0.

BHA worked us hard and their disciplined and hard working defence made the game into a snooze fest. The refereeing was inconsistent and our quality was completely negated (bravo BHA).

I didn't enjoy the game, but at the end of the day I will take a win against PL opposition who played well and worked hard.

I really like Lindelof tackle to koucartsomething.
after we score the goal, the game became boring but I'm very happy we can get 3 points. Brighton defence really tough and solid, especially their GK.
now, I can enjoy watching liv vs chelsea.. happy weekend!

don't understand how we can have Mata, Pogba, Martial, Rashford, and Lukaku all on the pitch at the same time and still look clueless and disjointed going forward. Thankfully luck was on our side with young's strike.

Let me guess why....oh, Jose is a poor attacking manager.

Amazing how we fail to consider the possibility that some of our players are over rated. Do they have potential? Yes, they do. But for now, it's just potential for the likes of Martial, Rashford and Lukaku.

But I'll take today's three points. It would have been a draw last season.

Those post match threads are unbelievable these days. Half posts are about how evil Mourinho is, how amazing City are and how beautiful Pep is.

I didn't say at any point I wasn't entertained in any of the previous games, of course I was, why wouldn't I have been? If every game was like today, I'd have gone mental by now, but thankfully this season has been the best we've looked for years, at times better than towards the end of Fergie's time.

Pochettino? Jardim? Marcelino if he keeps doing what he's doing at Valencia?

Pochettino with a better squad lies below us in the table. And they have hardly been sparkling either.

Jardim has Monaco out of Europe completely before December.

The Valencia manager is completely unproven and could turn out to be just another flavour of the month.

Firing a manager without a solid plan at all is even more stupid and will just take us backwards. Mourinho has improved this team. That is undeniable. The job he has here is not an easy one. We have averaged 6th position over the last 4 years. It will take time.

Ok. I got the vibe you meant that. Or is it a general vibe in this forum. :)

I think it has got to do with the players more than Jose. If they cannot control the ball or make a decent pass then it is upto them.
I hope that Jose never plays Martial and Rashford together and also gets rid of Mata and get someone who can play better football.

Basically this. And it's more than half.
Mourinho bad, United bad, City and Pep wonderful or how would Pep do it.
You have a guy in Cantona thread who claims that deep down we would love to see Pep at United, all of us.

The memes in their forums must be unreal. I'd love to see us sign Fekir to compete against them.
:D
Can't forget about Groß(ss)! I wondered if Brightons trasnfer strategy was based on names then I saw March and Ryan.
The meme gods were not fully with us tonight.
The opposing team know how to play football. Their coach seems to be a good one
He's Chris Hughton. I've liked him since he was Newcastle manager many moons ago.
I don't remember which poster was arguing with me that since Pobga is back, everything would be rosy (the optimism was warranted after the good Newcastle win tbh) and I was like, let's be patient. There have been too many false new beginnings with this team. There are so many issues that one player, as talented as he is, won't resolve just by his presence.
It's like, did people forget how bad we played with Pogba in the team? It was obviously going to be a boost having him back but we weren't going to suddenly play great football.

Very lucky today. Brighton were easily worth a point. Can't grumble too much about the blunt attack, it's who were are. A blunt object can still do damage though.
