I rarely if ever in my life remember agreeing with Graeme Souness but he's just said:
This is Manchester United, arguably the biggest club in the world, playing football that was played by lower league clubs 30 or 40 years ago. Manchester United have to be better than this.
Those in charge of the club need to take a step away from the noise, the sponsorship deals and the money, have a look at the total lack of football we're playing and make a change. I can count the good 90 minute footballing performances of the last 5 years on one hand. It's just not good enough.

Hope Ed told them they're not getting paid this week.
The best way to kick the players in their asses is their pockets. I wish this was something that could be done.

If I underperform at my job for a few weeks, I may get a talking to. If I underperform for 2 years, I would get fired.

Gonna ask the question: Did any of our players look like they were enjoying their game today(other than Shaw for a few bits)? Like seriously enjoy playing football, being confident on the ball, tightening space etc ?

We have a few useless players in our team: Tony(the old one), Young, Mata, hell even Rashford, players not suited to our current style of play.

We have no strategy going forward: when the ball reaches Paul, the only one making a run is Shaw(yeah, the guy you bashed for the last 2 years seems to have a bit of tactical awareness)

We have no strategy when being pressed: when you're pressed, your CM should tighten the space and your FB's should come out for the pass. We don't, we kind of don't do anything when being pressed other than Paul coming down and almost being a feking CB.

We're not "friends with the ball": I mean, in this game, the only ones with a decent 1st touch were Paul, Luke and Andreas(and even them had a few mistakes). If you hit a more incisive pass towards one of our players it will bounce off them like a fat lady rolling down the stairs.

We're missing some players: a good ball playing CB, a LW, a RW and, most importantly(you'll be surprised) a good technical striker

We have the wrong manager for the type of football that fans wanna play : if you thought Jose was going to come here and entertain you off your seat, well, you missed the party by 2 years now

We have the wrong players for the style of play the manager has:
- widely known that Jose likes a hard working team with powerful wingers, a commanding CM and a commanding CB at least. We have none of that, hell we don't have 1 natural winger in our team (if anyone answers: "that's Sanchez", you better shoot yourself)
- widely known that Jose will not instill any attacking fluency or flair in our squad, he likes direct football. (Again, wrong players for that, we have players that would like to play fast and fluid football)

All summed up, we have a manager with the wrong ideas about how a Man Utd side should look, some wrongly picked players for his style and some severely under performing and unmotivated guys.

Solutions, IMO:
-> jose reverts to a 3-5-2 trying to play Van Gall-esque type of football and grind results until the end of the season - gets top4 - is sacked at the end
-> board mans up, fires the guy, gets a more suited manager
-> jose loses 2-3 more games, loses the dressing room - walks our gets sacked

However you look at it, we need a different manager for the current crop of players.

At this point I don't know how anyone can still argue the team want to play for Mourinho?

I've said it before and ill say it again. Our players must look over at City and think, my god I'd love to be there. They have an exciting manager, are playing some of the best football in Europe, are rarely publicly humiliated which Jose specialises in and are winning things with ease.

We have players who at different points in their careers have caused havoc to defences. We know they are more than capable. So the issue isn't individual ability. The players don't want to lose but will only put in half the effort because they know if they put in anymore it will mean Jose securing his future. So its a case of 'things have to get worse before they get better' for them.

This loss is on the board.

Mourinho said he wanted certain players and they reject all of them so clearly they don't trust Mourinho but they still kept him as manager. They should either grant his transfer requests or fire him and get someone who is more in line with what the board wants going forward.
Very good summary.

Hopefully hes angry because hes just realised hes a big BIG part of the problem...

United has had no real direction since this guy took over from Gill. We've had a transfer policy of buying young exciting attacking footballers but have brought in three managers that dont play exciting attacking football. Woodward is clueless and should have been left in the commercial partnerships department. We need a chairman that understands how to run a football club, not an investment fecking banker!!!
Which was synonymous with SAF. He can only go and buy who his managers ask for.

Wow...either the site is slow, or people aren't even bothering to comment much anymore they are so pissed with it all.......expected these pages to be rolling :)
Don’t think they’re that pissed, just can’t be fecked no more. Same old shit for 5 bloody years.

Not even sure Pep could get anything out of this squad. Extremely bad times ahead

There was a tweet from a journo showing video of our team practicing a rondo. That in itself show how poor our players are at one touch passing. We have appointed past it managers who have forgotten how to train the players. We should not make another mistake of hiring a manager, we need a coach desperately.

How reactive are you mate? After 1 loss you conclude that Jose has lost the dressing room? Wait to see how we respond from this defeat against Spurs before you spout out this fickle nonsense.

Yep I wish we could fine them for this. Also fine the manager as well. They were all disgraceful. Only in football you can get away with these things.

Today's an example of what happens when DDG has a 'normal' game. We are so easy to play through with long/direct balls, usually it's glossed over (like vs Leicester) because we can still win and DDG makes a couple of great saves - we could easily have drawn at Leicester.

I just don't really get how Mourinho wants us to play, we set up with an LW and an RW but Martial was crap and Mata has no pace so zero penetration happens. I don't think we have the players for this system. Lukaku alone up top is pretty easy to mark and he still looks sluggish to me.

5-3-2 is what I'd go for. Think it suits us way better.

The board won't sack Jose yet. If we lose a couple more games in a row, they might but I don't think it will happen before the turn of the year. And if he is sacked, except for Zidane, who could we get at this point in time?

Are you just watching the highlights?

No not at all. If we had scored first the game would have been different.

Its just like our team has no fighting spirit or clue. I was just as uncomfortable when we went 3-1 down as i am when we are up 2-0 in a game then concede for 2-1. Its like this side has to have every little thing go its way or it all goes to shit.

The moment we missed the Lukaku chance and they scored, i knew it was going to be a shit show. 2-1 offered a glimmer of hope, but at 3-1 I didn’t see us getting out of that hole.

Too soft.

Yup he’s absolutely right! Some people criticise souness thinking he’s anti United but to me he just seems incredibly frustrated at how shite we are.

So instead of answering the question he attacks the person asking it, classy.
The way the woman is phrasing those questions is incredibly leading. In fact, she's not asking questions as much as asserting a loaded opinion, and then saying, 'Thoughts?'. Imagine being pissed off already and then having to deal with that.

Smalling eats small teams for breakfast. Strange decision to not start him.

We don't concede 3 with him on the pitch. Is he a ball playing CB? No. We all know that. But he has the basics down to a tee and is physically dominant.

And if the manager isn't particularly concerned with finances, he can sometimes conclude that deals are too expensive; especially since the most frequent criticism of him to date is that we've been fleeced for mediocre footballers (which is still thrown at Woodward in conjunction with the other, absolutely incongruous criticism).

One of the worst performances under Jose. 2 goals flattered the attack. It was almost completely toothless.

......
Seriously? Do players need to freaking be 'enjoying themselves' to show the right attitude to their jobs?

The players needed were to close the gap on City and put United clear of Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs etc, not to help United beat the likes of Brighton.

Some blame might lie with the board, but not based on today's match.

The perfect storm caught up with us today. They've had this date circled on the calendar since the schedule was announced. They've all had a restful summer, been drilling and practicing and playing with the same 12 or 13 players for a year. Did any of their players go to the WC? I'm guessing virtually none of them did but then, I'm a poor guesser. On the other hand, we had a very unsettled summer. We still have players that are due back. Hoping that we pull it together pretty soon. I'd rather get our bad spell over with early on.

For me I've had enough!! Had enough of Jose had enough of Woodward . We are United one of the biggest clubs in the world but since Woodward has come in we have been run like a circus. Appointing average managers with zero forward thinking . I've had enough of Jose a manager I've always loved but I'm sick lookimg at him being miserable sick of his lack of style sick of the excuses week in week out. City have built a model they know where they want to be Liverpool the same under Klopp . They might lose but they always always make the effort to win . We on the other hand plod our way through matches our world class stars just don't turn up most weeks. We have to demand more we shouldn't have to watch such utter crap every week . It's time for a change in my eyes.

Martial Rashford Pogba Bailly Sanchez Lukaku. All good players who have more off days than good days it has to rest with the manager I'm already looking forward to June because we haven't a hope this season .

Putting emotions to one side for now Jose can only truly be judged when we have all the players back and fit.

Matic, Sanchez and Dalot could all potentially improve our team at the moment and until the world cup players are back to full fitness along with the injured players returning we're not about to sack Jose.

If Mourinho serves up the same shit like today when everyones back and fit then he's fecked. If he goes we have to bring in Zidane. A manager that could attract the likes of Varane or a top left back or right winger which we desperately need.

Absolute shambolic display today. Everyone at the club should be ashamed of this performance. God knows what we try to achieve with the stupid tactics with the ball.

These players can look over at City all they want, very few (if any) would fit into how they play. Of our starting lineup today very few would even make City's bench. The likes of Mata, the centre backs and full backs would be nowhere near.

That Lukaku chance to put us 1-0 cost us big time.

Same with his miss against Leicester could have avoided the tense finish.

Not criticising Lukaku but little things changes the whole complex of the match

Lukaku fully deserves criticism. Him and Bailly were possibly the worst out there, which is some going.

It's not her he should be pissed off at though, it was pretty obvious what her question was about but instead of addressing it he passive aggressively comments on how great she must be at her job if she can tell about players chemistry, felt completely unnecessary to me and just a way for him to deflect without having to address her point.
