Jose confirms he played a stronger team than he was originally planning to after Sunday.

Jose post match reaction:

- Happy with the victory, United deserved it
- Picked a stronger side today because of what happened at the weekend
- Wanted to win this for the fans - "we have 'real support'" (dig at Chelsea?)
- Players showed that they care, and fought for the fans

As I said in the other thread; I dont really get this 'rested plenty of players' excuse. It only means that they dont have the squad to compete on all fronts during the season, whilst we can put up a team that can.

First half - meh, second half - good.

We definitely needed that and 0 shots on target for Pep, even though he did rotate his team.

We kept a great shape tonight, with limited their chances completely. 4-3-3 is definitely the way to go... also Valencia was quality tonight, he has improved show much at RB.
Pogba just gives that heir of class that gets the crowd going... he was embarrassing them at times the way he was playing keep ball on the wings.

But we still need to move the ball faster!!

No need to think up reasons not to be happy after beating City!

City started the better but United control most of the game and it was a cruise to victory in the end!

Be Happy :)

They've wasted a lot of money if that's there C string as some are making out. Never mind the fact it would also mean there C string play a hell of a lot of PL mins

We really needed that second half performance to get some confidence after last weekend. Herrera and Rojo played brilliantly.

MUCH better second half. Really with the players we had compared to them, it should've been like a 3-0 type thing, but that first half the players just showed very little desire and composure, apart from probably 4. Rojo (who has surprisingly given 2 of his best performances for United against City), Herrera (as always), Mata and Valencia the 4 best by a distance I think. Valencia, Mata and Herrera along with Bailly have been consistently our only reliable players this season, so that's not so much a surprise. They just have to always start though as they always give 100% and their performance levels tend to be pretty consistent too.

Ibra got way better after half time, his first half was absolute trash. Pogba likewise, though he improved mostly after moving out wide where he had space and it was his role to actually take players on and go forward more.

Overall... It should provide a bit of a boost to us, but if we're being honest, the game meant a lot more for us then it did for them after they beat us earlier in the season at OT and the current form. So it didn't feel like a huge derby win or anything, more just a standard win. Hopefully we pick up some form now, we have a decent run of games coming up where we can get a good amount of wins in a row. Plus the EFL cup is very winnable.

They still brought Aguero and Sterling on. I agree that we were supposed to win but I won't buy for a second that they didn't want to win it.
The subs they made would suggest that, but they didn't push hard for a goal or even try to bombard our penalty area. We never looked close to conceding, and that's with two first choice defenders out. I really expected those last 10 mins to be a real grind, but it was very comfortable.

We had them under control. As much as we criticize our players, they deserve credit for holding down the fort. It was not for a lack of trying by City's players.

Listening to Mourinho's interview it is clear he has no spies in the Red cafe.

For all the "Pep didn't play his strong team", we also played Rojo as a CB who is nth choice and also Blind on the right side of the defense which I don't think he has ever played before. Our defense was great and good to see us creating so many chances on counter.
Plus Martial and Mkhitaryan out, Bailly injured. They started Sane who cost £40m and he did nothing... it's not much of a defence for them imo

i don't care if this was only the carling cup or whatever it's called these days, a win's a win, and when it's against City, it's even better.

this certainly won't hurt moral.

Any replay of the goal?

Great match. I know it wasn't the best for a neutral, but being at the game, seeing our spirit, that was fecking great.
