Neymar should be playing this weekend at the Roudourou in Guingamp, stadium capacity is 18k while the commune has a population of less than half that
You obsession with Guingamp is perplexing. It's as if Eibar wasn't playing in La Liga or if Girona and Getafe didn't had smaller stadiums.

No major 1st division football league in Europe has a club with 7k locals, not even remotely

And?

PS: Hoffenheim is smaller.
You know. Small cities does not deserve to watch elite football or "nothing clubs", especially in a country that probably should not exist.

Juventus push ahead in negotiations with Blaise Matuidi

Serie A side Juventus are hoping to reach an agreement over personal terms with PSG central midfielder Blaise Matuidi by Friday, according to Gianluca di Marzio.

PSG have quoted a price of €25m for the player, with Juventus hoping to work that down in the coming days.

Juve are close to an agreement with Blaise Matuidi concerning a 3-year contract for between €3.5m and €4m net a year.

Thiago Silva on Neymar: “I was calling him every day.”

Speaking to Canal Football Club, PSG central defender Thiago Silva explained his role in the chase of Brazilian superstar Neymar.

“I was in Brazil, I called him every day. I spoke to him about Paris the town that I like a lot and about the club. I told him that the club was ready to buy him and then he was very happy and I think that in the end he made the right decision. We are not here to sell players. We are here to buy them, to make a good team.”

FEATURE | Jesé must undergo a psychological metamorphosis if he is to succeed at Stoke

The transfer of Jesé Rodriguez from Real Madrid to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016 for a reported €25m fee brought about a muted feeling amongst PSG fans, especially after the high profile departure of the club’s all-time leading goal scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic. With the jury still very much out on whether the talented but often erratic Edinson Cavani could be trusted with the responsibility of being PSG’s main goal threat, there was understandable cause for concern at the lack of a high profile signing.

Granted, Jesé had played for Real Madrid and won the Champions’ League both in 2014 and 2016; he had scored 18 goals in 94 appearances alongside Ronaldo and company, so surely he had some qualities to contribute to the new post-Zlatan era?

The reason behind Jesé’s signing was to add some much needed extra fire power to a front line that was losing 30 –plus goals a season following Ibrahimovic’s move to Manchester United.

Whilst the signing didn’t exactly create a ‘Neymar style’ welcome for the young Spaniard, you would be forgiven for understanding some of the logic in PSG’s move for him.

After all, Jesé was a winner, critically, a Champions’ League winner, something that PSG lacked in their squad. He had a winning mentality that was sought after to help influence the squad in their quest for progression in the competition.

Jesé also brought versatility to the forward line as he boasts the ability to be able to play anywhere across the front three including through the middle to cover for Edinson Cavani. Although Jesé was nowhere near as prolific in front of goal as the Uruguayan, it was hoped that with an array of attacking options around him he could fill the void if Cavani was unavailable.

Was that a good enough rationale to sign him? Maybe.

Sadly, PSG’s hopes for Jesé were unable to come to fruition as within just a few weeks of the season starting it was clear that not only was Jesé lacking in fitness, but his performances were sub-par for a player of this value.

It would be unfair not to mention the unfortunate appendicitis operation that Jesé underwent just weeks after arriving in the French capital which clearly hampered any early momentum the ex-Real Madrid man may have gained. However, this should not be blamed as a trigger for the lack of fight and commitment Jesé showed in the weeks following his return to action.

Murmuring’s of discontent at a lack of game time followed at a moment when he should have been working hard to break into Unai Emery’s team. A team that just won two consecutive domestic quadruples.

It’s unclear what promises Jesé was made prior to signing in the French capital but his early behaviour pointed to the forward’s expectation of being a first choice player at PSG.

Having ‘Real Madrid’ on your CV does not entitle you to an immediate starting berth at Paris Saint-Germain. A place in the starting XI is earned and it was clear early on that Jesé was not willing to show enough desire or hard work to earn that privilege, instead, looking for an all too easy escape route – that being a loan move to his formative club Las Palmas in January. He made 16 appearances for the Spanish outfit, scoring 3 goals in total.

A four–way battle for the two starting places either side of Cavani in PSG’s front 3 fighting with Lucas Moura, Angel Di Maria and Javier Pastore is the least he should have expected upon his arrival in the capital. But there was no battle, no fight and no desire to win his place. The frustrating element here is that all 3 players he was competing with were also in poor form in the first half of the season and Jesé wasted a golden chance to cement himself as a regular starter alongside Cavani. The Spaniard ended with just 14 appearances in rouge et bleu.

So as the question goes, can he do it on a cold wet Tuesday night at Stoke?

If Jesé’s performances since leaving the Bernabeu are anything to go by then it’s unlikely that he will have the impact Mark Hughes is looking for. There’s no doubt the boy from Gran Canaria has ability, but it will come down to whether he will show the fight to succeed. He will no doubt find his new surroundings a culture shock compared to the bright lights of Madrid and Paris as well as the difference in the brand of football he will be playing.

Based on the last 12 months, it is hard to envisage Jesé hitting the ground running at Stoke who are largely devoid of technical ability in their squad. With respect, their style of football at times last season was more suited to Peter Crouch than Jesé, especially after the departure of Marko Arnautovic and the uncertainty surrounding Bojan’s situation and for this reason alone the Spaniard could find the adaptation period difficult.

Then there’s the physical aspect of English football, one that is ingrained in the way Stoke City operate. Jesé will need to adjust to this quickly, firstly in training and then in the Premier League.

This could be the worst possible move for the unsettled forward’s floundering career, but maybe some credit should be attributed to the former Real Madrid man for choosing Stoke over Fiorentina, who have been courting the Spaniard all summer. Perhaps Jesé has opted for the bigger challenge?

If so then that should be admired. There will be huge off field matters that many foreign players struggle with when arriving in England; the climate, the food, the bleak short winter days and the lack of a mid-season break might prove difficult, but he will need to show mental strength at Stoke if he is to be a success – something that he has been lacking.

Jesé’s stock has dropped considerably since leaving the Santiago Bernabeu. PSG seemingly have no plans for him and in a World Cup year the chances of him getting anywhere near the Spain squad are looking bleak. However, if Jesé starts to produce some of the promise once seen in Madrid, this could be the catalyst to get his career back on track and the potential of a permanent move to a club that will help him to rebuild his stuttering career.

Ideally, PSG would have wanted a sale rather than a loan, especially with so many attacking talents at their disposal. With a significant wage bill and with FFP looming after the purchase of Neymar, the capital club need to start off-loading some of their ‘dead-wood’. The loan is without an option to buy, indicating the hierarchy at Stoke City are not fully convinced that Jesé will deliver for the Potters based on his recent exploits.

Similarly to the way Las Palmas didn’t try hard enough to keep him beyond last season’s loan – granted wages were also a sticking point. The board at Stoke are trusting Mark Hughes with this deal, but it’s a move that feels more like rolling a dice and hoping for a six, as opposed to being seduced by what he will bring to the club.

If Jesé fails in England, it’s hard to see where his career path will take him next. PSG don’t want him, but neither do any other top clubs as his waning performances would make it too big of a gamble for a permanent transfer. This move is significant for Jesé as he is now at a crossroads in his short career to date, he has to change the perception of him and fast and or else his career could disappear deeper into mediocrity.

Juventus agree deal to sign PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi for £18.2m
• 30-year-old signs a three-year contract with Serie A champions
• Midfielder becomes Juventus’s 10th summer signing

Juventus have agreed a fee to sign the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi for £18.2m plus add-ons. The French international is one of PSG’s longest serving players but has been allowed to leave during a summer of upheaval at the Ligue 1 club.

The Juventus CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, was in Monte Carlo on Wednesday to meet the PSG director Antero Henrique and conclude a deal for the 30-year-old, who joined PSG from St-Etienne in 2011 and has won four league titles during his time in the French capital.

Matuidi, who has agreed a three-year deal with the Turin club, becomes Massimiliano Allegri’s 10th summer signing, following in the footsteps of Federico Bernardeschi, Juan Cuadrado, Douglas Costa and Wojciech Szczesny, among others.

It has been a somewhat turbulent summer at Juventus too with Allegri allowing the central defender Leonardo Bonucci to leave the club and join Milan in a £35.2m deal after the two fell out at the end of last season.

PSG have signed Neymar from Barcelona for £198m while Dani Alves, who was at Juventus last season, joined on a free transfer.

The Italian season kicks off at the weekend with Juventus taking on Cagliari at home on Saturday.

Good signing for that price imo. Useful player Matuidi is. Juve doing what they do best, getting very good deals on the cheap.

Indeed, it sums up very well the strategy of the Juve: smart acquisitions

PSG sold him for financial considerations:

- Saving on salaries: 8 millions of euros per year (gross salary)
- 20 millions of euros for a 30-year-old player: decent price for all the parties

Lucas Moura and ADM offered to PSG

PSG have offered both Lucas Moura and Angel di Maria to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, with varying responses, according to France Football.

Mauricio Pochettino does not believe that Lucas Moura is good enough, and so cast that option aside, preferring Angel di Maria.

Tottenham’s board however appear to have decided that the Argentine is too expensive.

Serge Aurier to Tottenham, hours away
Ivorian international Serge Aurier, will, barring an incredible turnaround in events, now join Tottenham Hotspur in the coming hours after he was granted a visa by the UK Home Office, according to L’Équipe.

Tottenham will pay PSG €25m and €2m in bonuses for the player, who will sign a 5-year-contract after already undergoing a medical in Paris last week with the North London side.

The only thing that could possibly stop this deal is a last minute attempt from Manchester United to gazump Spurs.

Celtic are close to signing Odsonne Edouard on loan from PSG

Scottish champions Celtic are very close to signing PSG striker Odsonne Edouard on a season-long loan, according to Le Parisien.

Edouard, who has been training with the PSG reserves all summer, spent last season on loan at Toulouse, a spell that was overshadowed by a criminal incident that Edouard was charged for: firing an air gun at members of the public from his car.

Player is appealing his sentence, but is also an EU citizen, so work permit situation is unlikely to be difficult.

PSG obligated to pay €180m in Kylian Mbappé loan deal

Ligue 1 side PSG will be obligated to pay €180m to make their signing of Kylian Mbappé next summer in their initial loan deal with AS Monaco, according to Le Parisien.

The only way in which they get out of this arrangement, is if they are relegated from Ligue 1.

The newspaper reports that there are now no longer any obstacles remaining for the deal to be officially announced today.

Julian Draxler continues to categorically refuse to leave PSG

German international winger Julian Draxler continues to categorically refuse to depart PSG this summer, according to SFR Sport.

Dortmund and Arsenal had made enquiries for the player, whilst his agent, under pressure from PSG at the time, tried to place him at Bayern Munich last week, without success.

If any move does occur involving Draxler this summer, it will be very much against the player’s wishes.

Hatem Ben Arfa continues to reject Turkey

PSG attacking midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa, who the club want to rid of before the transfer deadline, continues to reject offers from Turkey, according to RMC.

Hatem Ben Arfa wants to join OGC Nice, but will only leave PSG if they allow him to go for free (at Nice’s request) and pay him the remainder of his current contract, which is about €6m worth of salary.

At the moment PSG are refusing to pay him the entirety of the final year of his contract and are also very reluctant to allow the player to join another Ligue 1 side.

Fenerbahce continue to push, the player continues to reject. PSG are believed to have actually agreed a transfer fee with the Turkish side, but it is all pointless for the moment.

Fabinho to PSG has broken down – RMC

At the time of writing, talks between AS Monaco and PSG have broken down over the possible transfer of Fabinho, according to SFR Sport.

The Principality side have decided that they will not be selling Fabinho to Les Parisiens, the logic being that they cannot strengthen a direct rival with two players in one window.

Mohamed Bouhafsi states that a deal remains possible, but with another club before the transfer window shuts.

Tiémoué Bakayoko on Kylian Mbappé: “He always told me that one day he wanted to play for PSG.”

Speaking to SFR Sport, Chelsea central midfielder Tiémoué Bakayoko discussed Kylian Mbappé’s imminent move to PSG.

“Kylian always told me that he wanted to play, one day, for PSG. I think that leaving for an amount worth €180m, it is something enormous and I understand his desire, he will automatically progress. When you leave Monaco for PSG, it is a progression and that is what is important. It is difficult not to be interested in PSG. I chose Chelsea, a choice I do not regret.”

Lucas Moura has been told by Unai Emery that he won’t play at PSG but…

PSG manager Unai Emery has informed Lucas Moura that he has little chance of playing anything other than a very limited role in Les Parisiens’s campaigns across multiple competitions this season and that it might be best that he looks to leave, according to Le Parisien.

The problem at the moment is that the player has no offers, and is very attached to Paris. He also has the recent arrival of his best friend in the capital Neymar to think about, whilst currently being on a very comfortable salary.

For the moment, it looks like Lucas will stay at PSG.

PSG have made a €7m offer for Pepe Reina

Ligue 1 vice-champions PSG have submitted a €7m offer for Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina, according to Gianluca di Marzio.

Les Parisiens are willing to offer the Spaniard, who will be 35 at the end of the month, a contract worth €3.5m a year.

Napoli so far this summer have come down hard on any offers for Reina, and it would be seemingly non-sensical for them to change that stance so late in the window, even if the former Liverpool man is interested in joining PSG.

PSG closing in on Wendel deal

PSG are in advanced negotiations to sign Fluminense midfielder Wendel, according to Globo Esporte.

The 19-year-old was a revelation in Brazil this year, targeted by Barcelona and FC Porto too.

A deal has been reached in principle for a fee worth €10m, a fee of €5m to be paid immediately and another €5m when the player actually joins PSG in January 2018.

Bonuses are also included in the deal on top of that, the specifics of which were largely all worked out at the weekend when Fluminense representatives were invited to the Parc des Princes to watch PSG vs Toulouse on Sunday.

Gonçalo Guedes set for Valencia loan move

Having arrived at PSG for €30m last January, Gonçalo Guedes has struggled to receive any playing time opportunities at all.

For several weeks now, Les Parisiens have been searching to find an exit door on a loan basis for the 20-year-old Portuguese.

Valencia representatives were at the Parc des Princes last night and are confident of closing a loan agreement in the coming hours for Guedes, likely to be without an option to buy.

VCF have also made enquiries for Lucas Moura and Hatem Ben Arfa.

I wonder why it hasn't been yet. Will probably be tomorrow as it is getting late.
Maybe because there are ongoing discussions about Fabinho between these clubs or because M'bappé has to focus on the France squad.

If they play Di Maria in midfield and play with a front three of Cavani, Mbappe and Neymar I reckon they'll win the CL.

Jean-Michaël Seri’s move to PSG broke down because of Hatem Ben Arfa

PSG were close to signing OGC Nice midfielder Jean-Michaël Seri in the final hours of the window, offering a loan deal with a €15m upfront fee and a €25m option to buy plus Hatem Ben Arfa, according to L’Équipe.

In theory, OGC Nice were willing to go ahead with the deal, but Hatem Ben Arfa was not. The Frenchman wanted PSG to pay him the final year of his contract, around €7m, in order to leave for free. Ben Arfa refused and the deal broke down.

Kylian Mbappé joins PSG on loan

Ligue 1 star Kylian Mbappé joins PSG on a season-long loan with an option to buy worth €145m plus €35m in bonuses, which is activated if the club does not get relegated from Ligue 1.

PSG opted for a loan deal initially to avoid FFP rulings and the player will sign a contract until June 2022.

Mbappé broke onto the scene in unprecedented fashion last term, netting 26 times in 44 appearances across all competitions.

The teenager featured prominently throughout Monaco’s Champions League semi-final run, scoring six times in the knockout stages alone.

The Frenchman represented his country at senior level for the first time, in March, at the age of 18 years and 65 days – making him the youngest to do so since 1955.

Mbappé’s future had been very much up in the air over the course of the summer, with numerous ‘done deals’ and agreements reported.

The striker was a target for the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal – but it is Paris who have secured a deal for arguably the best young player on the planet.

(Without wanting to take the thread off topic for too long), I don't know too much about Aurier beyond what I've read and a couple of games here and there. What would you say his strengths/ weakness are? Better than Walker etc? From what I remember, he seems basically like an younger Ivorian Walker with a slightly *ahem* more difficult temperament....
