There were stories of divides but at least those players kept the same energy throughout. I don’t like you on Sunday so I’m not going to bother on Monday but we’ll get the job done [to limited success].It seems like you think squad dynamics were fine in those days because if they didn't like someone they just wouldn't speak to them.
I thought that too, maybe Sterling was so gobsmacked that Gomez was in the squad he thought he'd broken in and was trying to escort him off the premises.
Fabinho and Fernandinho shook hands too on the pitch after the tackle. What happened yesterday between the two is pretty common, even for two players from the same country.
You could see Fabinho and Fernandinho talking each other out after a foul yesterday.
The thing is, you need to sort yourself out and not let it go outside the stadium. Sterling acted real petulant and unnecessary.
Bad losers are the worst.
Please. It was nothing.I thought Gomez was out of order on the pitch to be pushing like that; did he get a yellow or anything? On top of that there's heaps of sh!te on Twitter about Sterling getting 'shown who's boss' for standing up to a fella who's half a foot taller than him which would piss anyone off.
Top footballers have often got kinda nasty sides to them like this, as do most really driven people, Gomez has probably tried be all chummy and pass it off as nothing where as Raheem has probably been fuming about his teams loss and the scuffle since.
They'll sort it out over the international break and Sterling will probably play in the next game to put it all behind them.
Not sure if I'd side with Sterling being a media darling....he's been given so much crap by the media since his early days at Liverpool, stereotyped and yet has kept a pretty good head on himself. He's also not backed down on the media, which they are super sensitive about (English media)."Impressed others"
Gomez is a twat but he's no fool. Sterling is seemingly a very popular player and the general media darling, go up against him in a tit for tat and there is only one winner.
If it was Kane Vs Sterling that's different.
The Sun said:Footie idiot Sterling FLAUNTS mum's new mansion in front of starving Liverpool orphan
If Gomez has any sense he will do the exact same thing in the 1st minute of the next match vs City, if Sterling get this emotional over a little in game tussle its a prime opportunity to get in his head and get him to do something stupid like retaliating and getting send ofGomez won’t do that again to Sterling that’s for sure.

Should clarify. I think he turned into one. He got so much ridiculous shit since he first burst onto the scene and got a ton of support when he stood up for himself this/last year. Maybe most of the media stopped the hate because it would look bad for them but he became untouchable for whatever reason (being an incredible footballer/in top form helped too). Not sure if I'd side with Sterling being a media darling....he's been given so much crap by the media since his early days at Liverpool, stereotyped and yet has kept a pretty good head on himself. Obviously papers expected him to deck him right then and there. Paints a picture of a prison movie bust up where the guards shed a tear when the most brutal inmate turns a corner towards a better future by using his mind instead of his fists.Impressed others
You don't even know what happened ffsThis is the exact reason I detest the scouse lot & the media that panders to them.
For well i’m excess of a decade the likes of Beckham, Neville, Rio [& so on] would go away on international duty after winning trophy upon trophy without any “banter” going too far.
Yes there were stories of divides but results were left to speak for themselves & wouldn’t even give the time of day to players if they didn’t particularly like them.
Roll on to the present day where them idiots have finally won 1 trophy in 12/13 seasons & some upstart defender takes the banter too far.
They should both be bloody banned, don’t empower a lack of class in victory as much as telling Sterling he needs to man up in defeat.
I agree with this. By the sound of it he behaved himself when Sterling confronted him in private. It's incredible how brave and tough he was acting in front of the ref and the millions watching.Sterling went up in my estimations. Gomez was acting a cnut yesterday. Not a fan of players trying to act hard on a pitch knowing the other player can’t do anything about it, at least Sterling had the balls to say something in private.
Not the most professional of responses though.
Gomez is a CB, and despite losing his place (through injury) to Matip, he's still one of England's best. Walker is a RB.And yeah, why is Gomez even in the squad? What has he done this year other than "star" in the 5-5 tie with Arsenal??? Did he seriously get picked over Walker???
The right question. A non situation like this blows up and Southgate has it on his CV when people randomly criticise him first only he'll soon get the easy win, and then he has proven himself as someone who can deal with big egos in a group.I don't get what the FA, Southgate or either of the players get out of making this public. Seems daft, especially considering Southgate's previous comments about the media's treatment of Stirling. This will play right into it .
He should have just had a proper word with Stirling and let that be it. (Put him on the bench if he really feel it's necessary).
Perhaps they knew the press would report it, so they decided to pre-empt the newspapers by establishing their own narrative first.I don't get what the FA, Southgate or either of the players get out of making this public. That would be very cynical and risks alienating Sterling, unquestionably one of Englands best players. None the less it's possible, we've seen weirder things happen in football. The right question. Makes sense but feels like a drastic measure.Perhaps they knew the press would report it, so they decided to pre-empt the newspapers by establishing their own narrative first.
Gomez plays both centre half and RB for England, and as we saw yesterday, he's 4th in the pecking order at Liverpool behind Lovren as well. Walker may play RB only for City, but he played right centre half for England in the world cup, and he is a hell of a lot better than Gomez. Hell, Smalling is a hell of a lot better than Gomez...Gomez is a CB, and despite losing his place (through injury) to Matip, he's still one of England's best. Walker is a RB.
Trying to provoke opposition players is part of the game. It goes on all the time, especially in the biggest matches where a lot is on the line. If Gomez had got Sterling sent off, one of City's most important players, and suspended that would have been a great result for Liverpool.Picking Sterling up is one thing, but Joe Gomez followed up with that patronising look, rich kid bully type of smile. Really provoking attitude, I totally get why Sterling were looking for a simple apology from him. If Gomes wouldn't give it up they would always have a problem, and Gomez is the one who instigated it.
who the hell is joe Gomez? Sterling is Englands best player and if this nobody is upsetting him he shouldn’t be in the squad. Sterling would never be sent home if this was in the World Cup because of a backup player England dont need. It’s right decision not sure why people are taking Sterlings side.
Sterling was getting wound up like a little baby yesterday and worked up. That’s part of the game to get in your opponents head.
Crying about it on England team is just plain stupid from him.
It depends what he has done. We don't know so it's hard to judge, but I suspect if we were playing Germany and Spain in the next week, Southgate might have made a different decision.who the hell is joe Gomez?
