Ralf Rangnick's consultancy role has been scrapped

Huh. If a surveyor came around to my house and told me that it needed knocking down before it falls on me an my family I wouldn't say "fecking lot of use you are telling me to knock it down".

You hire people to tell you the truth (if you aren't stupid). Not to give you the answers you want to hear. Thats been the issue at the club for too long.

In response I would say...I don't have the budget to totally demolish my entire house, could you not save the bathroom or a few walls?

Now back to football...anyone can tell United to buy an entire new starting eleven to improve the team. But that's not a particular helpful insight, and add to that slagging off the club and players in every presser, you start to think Ralf wasn't the right man for the job.

I think the problem is that in Rangnick's case he's not a surveyor, but a professional house-knocker-downer.

The club actually released a video of one of their meetings with Rangnick where he shared his insights into the rebuild needed at United.

We brought in a demolition man to fix the faulty wiring.

Lets look at what Rangnick is and what he isnt.

Hoffenheim: Brought them from the third league in Germany to the bundesliga (where they still are) in 3 seasons.
Leipzig: From 4th league to 2nd place in the Bundesliga in 4 seasons.

Both long term projects and club building.

In Russia he was brought in to bring quick fixes as a manager and largely failed.

IF he was truly hired only to save top 4 and not to help the rebuild of the club (not as a manager) then that is a terrible decisions and gives you serious doubts about Murtough.
Rangnick was never that type of guy and it should only take a few minutes of research to understand that.

I hear what you are saying but if you bring someone in to do a job and thats what they say then thats what they say. I would wager that if United get back to being a team competing in the CL and PL in the next 3-5 years we won't have more than 2-3 of these players still left. They wanted to know what he thought about the teams players and their quality and how it relates to where the club wants to be. His honest assessment is that most of the players are not up to scratch. He hasn't said that they need to get rid of all of them tomorrow if we want to stay in the PL, hes just given his honest view on them and the club will do what it will with that information.

I honestly don't think his public rating of the players made the blindest bit of difference. They put in feck all effort before and put in feck all effort after. feck em.

We probably didn’t expect him to come in, go to the local residents meeting and call us all cnuts, but he did it (weekly for three months) and has paid the price. I wouldn’t keep someone around if they were doing that either, especially when their initial work was, at best, shoddy

Has it been indicated if he left under his own volition or was he binned off?

i think it’s a bit like how you don’t announce when a haemorrhoid appears or disappears.

Again that speaks to poor research. Rangnick has always been extremely outspoken.

Two weeks ago the consensus was everybody bar DDG and CR7 should be gone... they didn't deserve to wear the badge. Now it's RR's fault because he couldn't get the best out of them. What a load of tosh. He came here and was handed nothing. No transfers, Carrick and McKenna giving him the middle finger and the players in open revolt. What did anybody expect? He identified publicly what everybody has known for a few years... the team and organization is rotten to the core. Brutal honesty usually is not welcome by the higher ups. He became unwelcome by all involved including ETH.

Well said. I for one am disappointed he’s gone .

What a dick ETH is, poor Ralf. The club should sack Erik Ten Hag (his win ratio is 0% afterall), put the entire squad up for sale and re-hire Rangnick as Manager/DoF/Press Conference enthusiast and let him rebuild the club in his image.

To be a DOF. Imagine that.

He's currently the CEO at Ajax and his only qualifications are a marketing degree, and his previous position as marketing director , so if we get him in to be a Director of Football he'd likely be shite.

Some of you are so downbeat it's unreal.

Any change is lipservice these days.

Have you not seen the hundreds of posts from people wishing he would get that job over the last few years?

Nobody is claiming anything of the sort. If I was ETH I would want a clean slate to begin with and the ability to bring my own team. The fact is people at the top of the heap didn't appreciate being exposed so forcefully by Rangnick. The same can be said for many in the squad. In hindsight he was setup for failure but also didn't make the situation any better by some of his managerial decisions. Let's face it he was served a crap sandwich.

Yeah it looks like he does want a clean slate which I'm sure is one of the reasons why Ralf is gone.

Rangnick didn't seem to enjoy being exposed either which is why he hired a Media spin doctor to build a narrative for him and protect his reputation.

Hundreds of people would be wrong then, it's like recruiting De Jong and playing him up front.

Also I’m not sure how useful a consultant is when their advice is the team needs 10 new players.

Great insight Ralf!
It's actually such a shit take when you think about it.
"Teams not performing, just get a new team problem solved. That'll be 6 figures please."

Where to find that consensus? I don’t know it.

Nobody's saying it's all RR fault, obviously the problems at the run club run far deeper than him. Most of us are bewildered why he was appointed in the first place. His honesty was his best trait and was much needed but surely now a clean break is in the best interests of both parties.

We’ve had some weird cultists in our fanbase this past ten years (Jose fanboys, Pogbapologists, Martial FC, Donny Van de Beek obsessives, those who think Amad is world class even though he’s played about three games at senior level) but the Ralf fanboys might be the worst of the bunch.

Never forget this guy delivered the worst win rate of a Manchester United manager since the early 70s.

There’s a cognitive dissonance at the heart of it all as well which goes as follows:

1. The squad is shit, it’s not Rangnick’s fault we were so terrible under him
2. Ole made had the same squad playing
much better for two seasons, but he is somehow way worse than Rangnick

He could have been useful as a consultant for transfers, structure etc. but the club were right to get rid as how can anyone trust his judgement after the crap we served up under him, and after the way he alienated the entire dressing room? It would undermine Ten Hag massively to keep him around as everyone would view it through the lens of a failed manager pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Oh here we go, Ralf was laying foundations for Erik was he?
Didn't say he laid foundations. I was implying that the players are the ones that the fans feel great resentment towards rather than the manager. No one here will be backing Marcus Rashford if Ten Haag can't get a tune out of him and that will help give him some time because it's pretty obvious these players aren't at the required standard.

Are some of you seriously suggesting we should have backed Ralf over Ten Hag? No way?

The guy was slotted to work 6 hours per week. Please stop with this worldbuilding fantasy

Could you please quote any single post that suggested the above?

And what did ETH say? 'This team finished 2nd last season'. Obviously the new manager saw that Rang was a spoofer who threw the squad under the bus to save face for being well out of his depth.

What did you expect him to say? No new manager is going to throw the squad under boss before the first training.

We will see how many of the squad actually stay for more than one season under ETH.

Ralf Rangnick was there to call a spade a spade and to send a very strong signal to fans, to investors and to the prospective next manager that the club were serious about deep rooted changes. Had the club not done this, the loss of faith would have destroyed the casual fan base where most of the club revenue comes from, would have made it impossible to find a credible top tier permanent manager and ultimately would have impacted the share value on the stock market, causing wealth destruction to the Glazers.

It wasn't about top four.

You lose all credibility when you say the team needs 10 new players. That's not calling a spade a spade, that's daft and pandering to muppets.

It was pretty clear to me at least that ETH wasn't the least bit interested in Rangnick's opinion. By Rangnick's own admission ETH hadn't sought to speak to him in any capacity.

edit: they did speak for a couple of hours on the phone after Rangnick left.

OK fair enough mate it was just paved the way sounded like another take on "laying the foundations". My mistake.

For me there are no positives from Ralfs time as manager, the awful job he did with regards to managing the squads morale will only make Ten Hags job all the more difficult trying to pick this team up and get them playing with confidence again. And that's without even mentioning the effect a lack of CL football will have on ETH's recruitment plans.

So are you saying this masterplan to have Ralf come in and tank the season to send a message wouldn't have worked as well if we'd have managed to come 4th in spite of Rangnick?

I don't blame ralf for the shit show. He should never have been given the reigns if they didn't see a role for him in the future. It just makes the whole conte situation even more perplexing.
