For me, and it may be something local to me, a tatering is a heavy defeat...it's by no means proper English...

Tatering, Dicking, twatting, battering, all the same meaning...
Thanks. Was thinking battering, but wanted to find original meaning, couse never heard the word before, then it mentioned potatoes, and I gave up.

A 'tatering' I think comes from the derivative of potato's i.e. a tater. Basically saying we will get smashed like a potato I think. I could have completely made that up.

Edit: Infact I did make that up but it makes sense to me and is my understanding.

I hope we utilize fellani's aerial threat against ramos inside the box in latter stages of the game.:D

For me the heat will make this a non match, there's no point going all out in this under these conditions.

I don't care how important some people count this cup as , West Ham at the weekend is a far bigger game for me and I hope Jose feels the same

I don't get how people can say WHU in the PL is a bigger game than this. In 20 years time will people look back at the West Ham game or beating Madrid in the SC final?

Not usually interested in friendlies but feels like it's been a long summer without seeing United. should get home from work before half time (!) but not sure I'll be happy by the end. I can't recall seeing ronaldo play against us before -- anyone know if he is in the starting XI tonight?

I'm thinking of taking bets on how early Hernandez scored against us!

What is this? So much United bias.

De Gea is the only player who is definitely better. You can make a case for Lukaku based on Benzema's patchy form last season. The rest are all better, including the clearly overrated Pogba.

He literally says using the scouse calculator. How's that not obvious?

I think he'll come off the bench.

Yet Patrice Evra is still wondering how he did that jump ;)

Already been pointed out. Nice try, but no thanks.

Also, a scouse calculator could refer to a number of people, clubs and institutions.

    --------------De Gea
    Valencia Lindelof Smalling Darmian
    -----------Matic Herrera
    ------Micky Pogba Rashford
    --------------Lukaku

Pray we dont start with Lingard or Fellaini.
Think we will lose though 2 or 3-1 as don't trust that CB partnership. More concerned about West Ham game anyway, I really can't stomach a OT draw to start off the campaign.
Very similar to how I'd go, except I'd swap out Rashford for Martial and wouldn't go for the double pivot. Think play Herrera a little further forward to hassle Modric and let him do his thing of running all over the place.

The last time Real failed to score in a competitive game was against City in April 2016 apparently. Keeping a clean sheet alone would be a great sign itself.

Was looking forward to this. Woke up sick. Went to work. Left an hour later. Home in bed. Have massage appointment when we kick off. Guess I'll be watching it on 1hr delay.

Been looking forward to this one. Can't be bothered to watch pre-season games, so tonight is the first and final tease for the season to come on my end. Hoping for an entertaining game, with us on the winning side!

I'm pretty sure most United fans would have trouble recalling the opponent in the 2008 Super Cup.

Zenit. Scholesy punched the ball.

I think winning the Super Cup would be a good way to start the season. It goes down in the record books and would give us a bit of momentum going into the West Ham game.

Unlike the last time we played the Super Cup, this is not a Friday night fixture. We have time to recover before the Premier League starts. We should go out to win this.

 That's because we lost, and against Zenit at that. No offence to Zenit, but a SC win against Real would prove far more memorable than the 2008 SC.

Oh I agree. I'm just saying that this isn't a very prestigious competition overall.

But with our first game being on Sunday we have no reason not to play the strongest XI. Rotating before a ball has been kicked is excessive, really.

Just watched an interview with Sir Alex on MUTV in which he looked back and regretted playing weakened teams in the Super Cup because of prioritizing the league. SAF says that history remembers these missed trophies more than the first matches of the season.

I know that personally speaking I always thought of the modern Super Cup as no longer relevant, but Jose's win every trophy mentality has changed my thinking.

SAF talked about watching the Lazio players celebrate like they had won the World Cup and wishing he had played his best side after seeing their celebrations.

I think psychologically winning is important, even if it is a lesser trophy.

I agree with Herrera but I think Jose will set us up quite solid with two sitting deep especially with Matic level of fitness as he could get overrun. I imagine Real having a lot of possession and us playing on the break. Martial I actually prefer as a wide forward over Rashford, I don't think Jose does. Like I touched on earlier though if Lingard doesn't start I will be happy either way.

Should be good. Reckon we'll go 3-5-2 with Valencia and Darmian as wing backs, Matic, Herrera and Pogba in midfield and Mkhi behind Lukaku up front is how I reckon we'll go and is probably the best course. Will be extremely difficult to win but it's another trophy to go for nonetheless.

    Yeah, good point actually.

Ferguson being interview on MUTV saying he never took the Super Cup seriously and regrets it.

TBH, I'm still regretting not winning the 2008 UEFA Super Cup. One of these trophies that I still don't understand why we let it slip from our hands.

I think we'll have good posession too, It wil be really like the first half against madrid in the preseason friendly.

Matic and herrera in midfeild do change things, also in dont think we are good enough to score on counter attack, we aint clinical enough, Without some posession our attack is not funtional to good levels
