I really don't think I lose that game. Now while I didn't explicitly say Vogts would tuck in when Olsen goes forward I implied he would be the more defensive of the two and perform a similar role he had along side Beckenbauer. As such there is no requirement for Stielike to to regularly drop into CB except on a very quick transition to Rivaldo wide left and Olsen is further up the pitch than Stielike. My defence is much more solid than suggested

Also whilst Cocu can't get forward as much Camacho not been able to get forward is much more of an issue as to retain his shape Rivaldo will have to stay wide and we k ow how much he liked that. Also given that Cocu is not as attacking as normal Forster need to not drift wide as much. There's also the question as to whether Albertini can do a job on Veron.

Ohhh.... ..... it was a joke?

Pnut probably posted what I did, if it had an 's', it'll be me.
Not a good one, but yes. I seriously considered the possibility of such player existing until I’ve read the write up, the name seems plausible and there had already been one player in this draft that was unknown to me previously.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

I can assure you there will be no one you haven't heard of.... no Wunderteam members or the like.

Apart from Gilmar and Charles, they're all players I've seen and in most cases, like.

Sjor Bepo vs Swarm

Sjor

Tactics: hop Dejo skoci Dejo Dejo daj gol
First two thirds you have stability, composure, ball retention par excellence but then in the final third there is mayhem and madness with Savicevic in a free role orchestrating the loony bin. Two fast attackers with great ability on the ball and Larsson again as the medicine to the madness in the middle. Should be plenty of chances created by the trio and thats not even mentioning a GOAT attacking mid behind them in Don Andres.

Swarm

Swarm
Disadvantaged by a string of injuries across the frontline, Swarm fields Sandro Mazzola as his centre-forward with Robben and Skoglund offering support.

Sjor Bepo
Bepo tweaks his tactics to get the most out of Savicevic's mercurial playmaking.

First Half

12' Sjor takes control early with Swarm's side getting used to the tactics. Essien is happy with his teammates and motivated to shut down Pirlo, robbing the Italian of the ball in a dangerous transition phase. Savicevic takes over performing some magic around the Roberto Carlos charging back to cover and feeds a beautiful through ball to Larsson who curves a lovely shot past Planicka

24' Burgnich and Blokhin get into a scuffle. Burgnich gets a Yellow.

34' Robben takes a pass from Pirlo and burns Jusufi leaving the poor Serb on the grass and rockets a shot that Ter Stegen parries. However Sandro pounces like a hungry hyena and scores a poachers goal

Half time: 1-1

46' Robben twists Jusufi again but his shot is again parried by Ter Stegen who again loses the ball but this time Carvalho saves the rebound

50' Iniesta and Savicevic play a series of 1-2s and allowing Blokhin to finally get some space. Savicevic feeds him and Blokhin rockets a shot into goal.

60' Liedholm imperiously dribbles through midfield and passes to Skoglund who crosses into the box but Sandro and Robben are misplaced.

80' Roberto Carlos flies up the flank left in space by Savicevic who is tiring, Goncalves cuts across and gives up a free kick. Roberto steps up, sets the ball down, pauses and lightnings a shot into the net.

95' Larsson misses a shot at the end but follows his own rebound and scores in the 5th minute of extra time!
But the match was only supposed to have 4 minutes. Swarm fans are upset and spam Twitter

3-2 Sjor Bepo wins
Goals-
2 Larsson, Blokhin
Mazzola, Carlos

I see why you cnuts won't admit to who supplies the write-ups  VAR should have disallowed that goal for being spoilered :( Anyways, I didn't see myself winning this either, Czibor, Kocsis, Nordahl and Jair out injured was fecking brutal. Cheers @Šjor Bepo

Too many similarity between Koeman and Albertini, so not really a complimentary midfield combo as compared to opposition
Koeman played with Pep, though, often pushing up into the space the latter occupied per default - and the biggest strength of both players (not counting Koeman's contributions on set pieces) was pretty much one and the same (long range passes).

On paper Koeman + Pep looks more redundant than Koeman + Albertini (who was less of a DLP specialist than Pep). But that combo did work. Sometimes things just...work, even though it looks like overkill, or a bit pointless, on paper.

Stobzilla vs. Michaelf

Stobzilla

By now the tactical system is familiar, for clarity:

We will aim to play an attacking game, on the front foot with a focus on creating mismatches in numbers all over the pitch and then using simple passing to create our opportunities. We have the runners to do so whom also possess the extreme quality needed in order too use the ball when we inevitably win it back owing to our pressing. A high line will also be used and can be used with relative safety owing to the aggressive mentality and quickness of our sweeper keeper.

Bremner comes into the side to shore up the right hand side of the midfield, this move for him means he can cover over to the right flank should he need to with Kubala cutting in.

Speaking of which, Kubala's return to the side brings with it more goals.

Da Guia slots in the FB/CB hybrid role with ease owing to covering both of these positions in his playing career.

Seedorf moves to the LCM position to resume his link up with Marc Overmars.

Michaelf

My team will play a 4-3-3 formation with wingbacks and inside forwards. My two central defenders will look to keep out the opposition attackers while the wingbacks will look to contribute both offensively and defensively. In Midfield, Rijkaard will play as a ball winner with Bozsik playing as a deep lying playmaker and Ocwirk as an all round central midfielder. Ocwirk, Bozsik and Leandro will look to use their passing and playmaking ability to create chances for the front 3 which features the pace of Mbappe and the finishing ability of both Spencer and Labruna (who is still the 2nd highest career scorer ever in the Argentinean top flight).

Advantage for Stobzilla
  1. Very well-balanced midfield trio: Busquets orchestrating the game from deep, Seedorf with his attacking qualities and Bremner adding that needed aggression on the pitch
  2. Can see a very fluid attacking play among Sivori, Overmars and Kubala; all very good at creating space and occupying dangerous position
  3. While Mbappe's pace and skill is outstanding, advantage should be given to Alaba who "has experienced more in football" and is expected to excel in that left-side defense
  4. Baresi - enough said
Advantage for Michaelf
  1. Very strong centre-back duos. Bican will have challenge to find the back of the net despite his goal-scoring prowess
  2. Defensively-solid midfield with excellent passing ability, although a bit lacking of someone who could carry the ball forward, and have to rely more on attacking fullbacks to do so
Predicted outcome:

Stobzilla (1) vs. Michaelf (0)

Goals scored
  • Overmars (assist from Kubala)
MOTM: Baresi

2mufc0 vs Isotope

Isotope

There will be goals galore by this team. Hugo Sanchez, Kempes and G. Meazza (and to certain extent, Zizinho and M. Sammer also) are more than just goalscorers but most of them are also creators.

Dominating the midfield and with excellent defence (and goalkeeper), this team is confidently aim for 3 points.

2mufc0

Isotope is missing some key players which i think i can take advantage of. I will continue to play high tempo football with my pacey forwards, given his slow defenders it should be an effective route to goal. Don't really need to explain the personnel all in natural positions able to shine.

3' Exciting game from the off. Isotope is playing a high line and pressing the opposition defenders trying to take the ball out. Scirea is doing a good job starting attacks from the back.

8' Chance for 2mufc0. Carlos Alberto and Johnstone combine on the right. The latter beats his marker and crosses is low in the box. Netzer with late surge hits is hopefully to the corner but just misses.

12' Isotope wins possession and Sammer breaks through. Hierro moves the ball to the flank where Kempes nods it down to Simeone. Good turn from the Argentinian who passes it into space to Sammer. Sammer tries a curler just off the box and scores! 1-0 Isotope.

18' 2mufc0 piles on the pressure but Isotope's high line so far keeps them out. Couple of shots from Keizer and Netzer outside the box bring some saves from Maier.

27' First time Isotope's defence is caught napping. 2mufc0 win the ball back and try to launch a quick counter. The ball rebounds off Sammer who is higher up but fall straight to Netzer who splits the defence and finds Keizer storming through. Keizer beats his marker and chips Maier - 1-1.

35' It's a game where both teams exchange period of domination. Isotope's team with couple of chances this time around, Zizinho and Meazza combine with the latter trying a low shot in an acute angle. The ball hits the side nettings.

45' HT. Very fun game to watch. Chances galore and both sides would rather go for the win, rather to play safe.

54' 2mufc0 with an early advantage in the attacking third. Isotope's team see more of the ball in the beginning but it's Sheva and Netzer combining which frees space for Keizer who almost had a brace forcing a save from Maier.

61' Another good pass by Netzer on the corner sees Shevchenko break the offside trap. Hierro is tad slower to cover and he finds himself one on one with Maier. Goes for the left corner and nails it - 2-1 2mufc0.

70' Magical stuff from Zizinho. He turns his marker and plays a beautiful one two with Meazza. Vierchowod tries to stop him with a sliding tackle but clips his knee and it's a penalty! Sanchez puts it on the spot and sends the keeper to the wrong side. 2-2.

81' Another good chance for 2mufc0' Shevchenko is played on side but alone on the flank. He waits for support and passes it back to Junior. Leo looks up and puts it between Simeone's legs to find Shevchenko again. He laces it and Maier can only tip it over.

90' Both teams look for the win in the dying minutes but both keepers are on their toes. At the end the draw seems the fair outcome in this entertaining game!

Harms vs Chester

Harms

This is a classic Fergie-esque reactive set up, that exploits my opponent’s weaknesses both in the build-up and in the defensive phase. And there's no one better to follow if you want to win the league.
  • Three Lungs Park gets a special mission tonight, a mission so crucial that he even starts ahead of Rivellino. Poor Gérson gets a Pirlo treatment.
"Even [Sir Alex] Ferguson, the purple-nosed manager who turned Manchester United into a fearsome battleship, couldn’t resist the temptation. He’s essentially a man without blemish, but he ruined that purity just for a moment when it came to me. A fleeting shabbiness came over the legend that night. On one of the many occasions when our paths crossed during my time at Milan, he unleashed Park Ji-sung to shadow me. The midfielder must have been the first nuclear-powered South Korean in history, in the sense that he rushed about the pitch at the speed of an electron." — Andrea Pirlo.
  • With Seeler out, my attacking set up changes drastically. Totti moves further forward to a false 9 role, with Kurt Hamrin and Jupp Heynckes joining in as wide forwards. Heynckes is the third most prolific scorer in BL history, with staggering 130 goals scored over his 3-years peak (72/73 to 74/75); Hamrin and Totti have 440 goals between them in Serie A alone. It’s also an opponent-inspired change — old-fashioned center half Billy Wright will have PTSD nightmares playing against Totti & co. His last 2 encounters against a false 9 system ended up in 2 humiliating defeats in which England conceded 13 goals, 3:6 in 1953 and 7:1 in 1954.
"We shall be all right here, Stan, they haven’t even got the proper kit." — Billy Wright.

Chester

5' Both teams start cautiously and not much to happening in either box. Harms is missing his goalscorer and attack look completely revamped. Totti is having more of the ball in the opening minutes and seems he's the go to guy for the team.

11' Chester's team open up their account with couple of good chances in the opposition half. Some fluid movement from the attack sees Cubillas in space but his shot sails over the crossbar only just.

17' Totti drops deep in his trademark move dragging Wright of his zone. He receives and is blocked, but the damage has been done. Robson takes the ball forward and finds Hamrin into space. The latter turns the defender and slides it past the goalkeeper. 1-0 Harms - very efficient move.

25' It's Cubillas again this time just outside the box. Albert drags a defender and Cubillas sees the target. He strikes it cleanly but Carrizo turns it behind the post.

32' Good chance for Harms yet again. Heynckes dribbles through Bezsonov and puts in a cross. Fillol spills it on the far post. He just manages to push it away but right into the path of Park. The narrow angle saves him as Park's shot goes over.

38' Another Heynckes move creates issues for Chester's team. Robson seems in forgotten and finds Totti in the box. Totti turns but this time Fillol produces a world class save.

45' HT. Harms's team look confident for another win. A good game between the sides with some fluid movement in both halves.

51' Zagallo cuts in and forces a rare error from Totti. He squares it to Gerson who releases it to Tardelli. A shot through couple of bodies and Carrizo sees it late, just when it hits the net. 1-1!

55' Big big opportunity for Chester. As Harms's team look to get ahead again they are caught on the break. Albert finds himself deep in the opposition half and takes the ball through Campbell. Hits it low trying to pull a cheeky through the legs shot to beat Carrizo but fails.

56' Great cross from the corner sees Hansen meet the ball on the near post. Carrizo just does enough to tip it over.

69' Period of domination from Harms. Totti forces a good save from Fillol, whilst Robson and Hamrin are unlucky from distance.

79' Chester's team looks a bit tired whilst Harms's team are on the front foot. The former are looking more into soaking pressure and hitting on counter.

86' Some good opportunities for Harms. Totti is again in the middle of things - chips a cheeky lob over the top and Hamrin goes for the brace. His shot ends up more like a cross but no one in the box to tap it in.

90' Very entertaining minutes till the end with Harms ending up having an advantage on the ball but Chester's team doing just enough to keep the score tied. 1-1.

Indy vs cubemine

Indy

Formation: 4-4-2 Diamond

Back 4

Lizarazu and Kaltz make a come back after being injured and rested respectively. Cannavaro and Bossis continue in central defense and for a good stopper/sweeper combination

Diamond 4

Deschamps is back from injury to anchor the diamond. Beckham and Van Hanegem play the side midfielders with Sir Bobby at the tip of the diamond.

Front 2

Hazard, and Nistelrooy make up the front 2

Tactics: Beckham - Van Nistelrooy

cubemine

IN this game I will ahve Ze roberto playing in a role similar to that of Bertrand during the 2012 Champions league final where he will try and neutralise the opposition right hand side, he will also drop back to slot in at left back when Jordi Alba goes up the pitch for a cross. Kante will play a very defensive role to try and win the ball before it gets to the defence and then pass it to any of the other midfielders to get the attack started, if Kante is dragged too far back then Gerrard will drop back to help. Suarez is very good at dropping his mark to collect crosses and that will be how most of the goals are scored. Gerrard is on Free kicks with Mathews on left corners swinging the ball in and Alba is on right corners swinign the ball in. In Goal I Have Petr Čech who is probably the third best premier league keeper of all time and was a top 3 gk in the world before his injury.

5' Both teams begin in different variations on a diamond formations. Indy plays a tighter more conventional diamond while cube experiments with a mixture of an old school right side and a modern defensive left side. The game is cautious neither side gaining an edge

11' Roberto and Alba are effectively combining and preventing the Spice Boy from influencing the match. Much of the battles are fought in midfield with Gerrard and Charlton controlling for each of their sides.

13' Hazard breaks with a fancy dribble only to be stifled by Djalma Santos leaving Hazard with his hands raised in frustration at the ref.

23' Matthews takes control going on one of his mazy dribbles and leaving even Lizarazu behind, he crosses into the box and de Castro controls for a shot but Cannavaro blocks

30' Van Hanegem sprays a pass that RvN controls in the box but Vidic also blocks a shot.

44' Gerrard misplaces a pass, collected by Deschamps to Van Hanegem to Charlton who struggles with Kante but passes to RvN whose shot is saved by Cech

0-0

50' Van Hanegem slides a pass to Charlton who is fouled by Pique outside the box. Free Kick. Beckham, frustrated by cube's tactics steps up angry and curls a shot into goal 1-0 Indy.

55' Hazard tries to dribble past Djalma and again is blanked. He is 0 for 5 in successful dribbles today.

69' Stevie Me plays aggressive stealing the a sloppy diagonal cross from Kaltz and going on a run, fires a shot and misses

74' Stanley Matthews gets his third successful dribble of the night and fires a cross low to Suarez who collects and shimmies around for a shot. 1-1

89' Stevie Me again tries to single handedly win the game and first a long shot that is easily saved.

90' Banks sparks a counter attack with a long kick but Vidic stops Van Nistelrooy again. The match ends in a draw 1-1

Goals: Beckham, Suarez
Assists: Charlton, Matthews

MJJ vs. Jim Beam

MJJ

Jim Beam

Hardly hit by Skizzo's and Diego's blitzkrieg in the last round, in starting 11 his majesty enters.

Tactics
The team is playing in an unorthodox 352 formation with the intention of controlling the game through world-class midfield base and by cutting supply lines to the opponent attack who also has to go through rock-solid defence behind.

We will try to get the most of our advantage in the midfield of the pitch where Cerezo-Schweinsteiger-Modric trio operates linking up with Raymond Kopa who was a manace to deal in his prime. Cantona will be used as the focal point of attack in this game, the team will supply him or just use his brilliant hold-up play to bring others into play, both wingbacks and those behind him. His immense heading ability will also be a massive threat from wingbacks crosses.

In the defensive phase, everyone will drop back making a classical 532 and extremely hard to break.

As soon as the opponent lose the ball, we will try to hit him directly on the counter. All three of my midfielders are capable of switching the ball to any side of the pitch in a space of a second.

One team becomes complacent, the other is motivated to get their first win. There can only be one outcome

2-0 win to Jim Beam, with Cantona scoring both goals (assist from Kopa & Modric) and celebrating in style

Baggio injured for the 4th game running :( His knees weren't that bad
Definitely the worst hit for the round. Not only him but Figo, Stielike, Briegel, Veron. A lot of reshuffling in the midfield required.

Harms has been hit a lot as well.

I have two men for every position yet I have had two injured in one position for every single match so far :( Mazzola has to play everywhere I guess

Disappointed with no mention of Ball skinning Schnellinger like he did time and again when they faced each other.

Also no mention of Park/Gerson duel which, I felt, was the tactical highlight of the game.
