Yeah, that's a bizarro result of the week, definitely.

Wakelin (first time) and Stevens just qualified for the WC, congrats to them. Stevens was poor for a huge part of the season, but very good showing here. Wakelin, I think, might be a problematic opponent for a lot of top 16 players. Beat Murphy 6-0 recently.
Pleased for Wakelin. Stevens hasn't been the same player since Paul Hunter, his good pal passed away. I really hope he can make an impact at the Crucible.
I also like Rob Milkins who is cruising against Michael Holt. Ricky Walden & Joe Perry also look set to qualify.

Good draw, strong matches everywhere. And one could argue that top two seeds got the most difficult opponents in first round.

Both play on Saturday, it'll be a great first day!

10:00 Selby v Perry
10:00 Fu v Haotian

14:30 Wilson v Stevens
14:30 O'Sullivan v Maguire

19:00 Selby v Perry
19:00 Carter v Dott

Yes some good draws and banana skins everywhere. Top 2 seeds got tough draws and you could easily argue Ryan Day starts favourite against Anthony McGill despite being the qualifier in that one, due to his form this season.
Hawkins has had a dreadful season and Carrington will be a tough match for him.
Wilson v Stevens should be a good match.
I’ve got tickets for next Friday morning and seeing O’Sullivan/Maguire vs. Carter/Dott (which should also be a close match!).

7-2 down :D I'll take it! Hopefully he goes out.

I fancy Mark Allen for some reason. Reckon it'll be his best showing at the Worlds.

Could be game over for Selby and Ronnie already. Really hope Ding can find a way to win it if Ronnie goes out.

What a performance by Ronnie O'Sullivan! Incredible grit from the Rocket.

Very good match and well played by Maguire. Must be bloody depressing to start the match so well and only for Ronnie to come back like this.
Ronnie will take some stopping if he's in this kind of mood.

I mentioned to someone that Ronnie having the night to prepare should scare the hell outta Maguire. Gives him enough time to clear his mind, refocus, and put in a performance like that.

Wanted him to go out though, but never mind :D (Only because I put £10 on Allen to win at 25/1).

Allen has been playing well lately, and with Selby out, it's looking like a decent lil bet :) Ronnie in that form will probably flatten him though, but oh well, it's all in good fun.

I'm just glad to have the Worlds back. Snooker WC in Spring, footy in the Summer  It's gonna be a good year!

Yes indeed. Though I'll only be having an occasional look at the footy and concentrating on tennis:D

fecking hell, only saw the start of yesterday's matches and just saw Selby went out...was he as bad as the score suggested or did Perry play a blinder?

Selby was indeed, very poor. Perry was solid though, nothing amazing, but made the shots he should've made all day, and was also pretty good in safety play. Better than Selby, who should've taken that duel at least, but not yesterday.

Lucky man, those two usually have a really good match.
I like Carter, the way he has battled back from his health problems and remains in the top 16 is admirable. I hope he gives Ronnie a really good game. We are actually going to the first session of the match so no doubt there will be some early feeling each other out. Best of 25 so the best player will certainly win.

It will be the second time I've seen Ronnie this year and my third ranking event visit of the season - I'm hoping to do a lot more next year including all of the Home Nations events.

I don’t think they can meet until the final and Ding is under just as much pressure to win the thing as Trump is.

Hard to see Ronnie turning this one around unless he gets a lot of help from Carter, not been firing at all in either session today.

Hazel Irvine should present everything.
Aye she's quality. Like a version of Claire Balding that's actually tolerable.

If Mark Allen goes through & Ronnie goes out, my bet is looking sound :drool:

I wonder which Ronnie will turn up tomorrow? 2 frames behind now. Needs a fast start tomorrow.
