Replacing Rooney

there is only one answer, but it is impossible: Alex Pato.

I reckon it'll be Benzema.....fergie is noted to go after players he rates multiple times.

I don't think Pato is impossible.

AC will have to offload a few players, Silvio has lost all interest in the team.
The only reason he loaded up on players this summer, was for political reasons, i.e early elections likely to happen in Dec. Once those are out of the way, I expect Silvio to balance the books.

Lose Rooney, VDS, Giggs, Scholes.

Sign Pato, De Gea/LLoris and Sneijder

It's obviously Neymar time! Sign him up.

If the unthinkable happens, take no less than 70 for Rooney, Real would pay it. Offer 50 for Pato and see if Milan are gullible enough to take it. Would Pato even want to come to United? Most likely pick up Higuain or Benzema then get a Scholesy replacement.

It depends. How have you pushed on to where you are now? You sold your best players for a lot of money and then signed a few good players to replace them. Those several good players developed and became the new Berbatovs and Keanes of the side.

If you sold Bale to us for £30 million, you'd go straight back into the market and sign a couple of new good players. And you'd obviously have your summer funds as well to get in one or two more. And hey presto, you've moved forwards. Thats just how it works.

If you pushed on like that, in the same way you did after Berbatov and Keane, then you'd up your level to title contenders. Of course you'd need to invest the money wisely but its fair to say you've been doing a good job of that recently.
Well, that's one possible way to push on. Another way is to keep Bale and use the extra CL and sponsorship income from this season to further strengthen the squad in January/next summer.

It all depends, as I've said, on whether Spurs finish in the top 4 again and do fairly well in the CL this season: if we do, then I doubt Bale will want to leave, regardless of any interest from Man. Utd.

There's another factor: money. 30m won't be enough to prise Bale away from Levy IMO and I seriously doubt, if the Rooney's stories are true, that you'll get as much from selling him as some on here are fondly imagining - not if he wants to leave and with time starting to run out on his contract. So, given your current financial circumstances, could Man. Utd even afford Bale when you'd also need to replace Rooney? I have my doubts - especially given the growing need to also replace at least Giggs, Scholes and VdS at some point in the near future.

I actually think he's a genius behind the scenes, it takes a form of genius to be able to make such utter drivel appear as though a genuine serious point/opinion is being made, and even more of a genius to then continue to argue its case without the slightest hint of sarcasm involved to the point where everyone considers him barking mad.

He does it to often to genuinely be that stupid, hes probably got a higher IQ than the majority of this forum id wager.

The idiots out in force I see... Rodellega and N'Zogbia getting mentioned? Sound like Liverpool signings. Why not see if Carlton Cole is available. Is this what its come to? We are Manchester United for fecks sake.

In all seriousness though, who do you Replace Rooney with... who is box to box, gives 110 percent, is like a dog with a bone when chasing the ball back and will run the length of the pitch to make a challenge? On top of that, who can score 30 goals a season, ping passes from all over the park, strike a ball from range and is as good with his head as he is with his feet?

Some of you lot REALLY underestimate Wayne Rooney.

He is rather unique when you break it down.

8 Pages of replacing Rooney, thats the Caf at its best.

Something tells me that Ferguson will make it a priority to repair relations with Rooney in the next three months, that is if they need to be repaired.

The way Scholesy has phrased his above post has made people laugh, but he has a point in the sense that Rooney was a striker who did much more than goal scoring, compared to others.

How much money would Everton be entitled to from any possible transfer? Wasn't there some % of next sale clause put in as part of the transfer when he came here in '04?

It s already been posted several times - 25% of any profits. Someone calculated that if rooney is sold for 50m, everton will get around 3.5m

I doubt we'd sign anyone really, we'd probably get £50m at most for Rooney and we'd have to spend £30m to get a replacement, maybe even more. Ferguson wouldn't do that knowing that we still have the likes of Welbeck, Macheda and Bebe awaiting a chance, we'd probably play Berbatov and Owen for a while and then give youngsters a chance.

Pato would cost as much as Rooney in all likelihood, and bear in mind that he'd have other options that he'd probably choose. I can't imagine him going to United ahead of Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Pato, Benzema and Aguero would be the most likely transfer targets.

Thing is those players represent value - much more so than the idiot suggestions being bandied about such as Pato or Aguero. How are we going to help the Glazers out if we go spending all the money from the sale of our top assets?

Usually I'd agree with you regarding Pato, but the situation at United would be different if he were to come in as a replacement for Rooney. He'd be the main man in the team, unlike at Madrid or Barcelona. That kind of role may sway a player.

This is most likely what would happen. Sad really, if Barca lost Messi and Iniesta in the space of 2 years, they'd move heaven and earth to address the huge hole that'd leave, same applies pretty much to any self-respecting football club across the world, not us though

89% of non-brits believe the UK includes Africa, the Amazon, and parts of Southeast Asian rainforests, solely because of the classic wildlife program Animal Kingdom and the narrator's English accent. True story.

Are you trying to tell me David Attenbrough wasn't born in the Brazilian rainforest?

 Reminds me of the aftermath of the Ronaldo sale and Valencia purchase, someone asked what happens when they come back in a few years with another 80 million for Rooney, and someone replied well we'll just buy Rodallega and tell everyone else to up their game.

Can you honestly see us paying the amounts it would take to get Aguero or Pato?

Yes for it would be the best thing from a financial point of view. Why? Selling Rooney without replacing him with a world class talent could cost us a CL spot which would be much more expensive than paying say some 40m pounds for one of those lads.

Yeah but we didn't replace Ronaldo with a world class talent.

Face it, this is no longer a club that buys world class talent, we either buy potential world class talent, or good players to replace our world class talent.

We can't compete for the Patos and Agueros of this world, and 40m? No way we'd get them for that.

But does he really want that? He's already a main player in that Milan team, well now that they've signed Ibrahimovic and Robinho he isn't that far ahead frankly but still. Madrid and Barcelona would give him an opportunity to shine and win trophies in a sunny Spain, United don't hold that appeal to those Latin players unfortunately. He'd have no reason to swap Milan for United.

Well, I don't think we can afford that anymore. Two years ago we bought Berbatov who was a top player and I don't expect us to repeat that in a while because of a financial state we've found ourselves in. We barely turned a profit the year we sold Ronaldo for £80m, selling Rooney for £50m would probably fetch us additional £10m to a transfer kitty, the rest would go towards servicing the debt and Glazer's pockets.

I'd rather we signed one solid first teamer instead of a dozen of players that aren't going to get a chance though. Then again, we may see the likes of Diouf as an investment because a sole fact that they've had United in their CVs ups their price.
