Unlikely, given past bottlings.
I'd say SAF retiring will have a lot to do with that, he is a big part of our appeal to players.I've said it before and a lot of people disagreed, but sooner or later a club like City or Chelsea are going to take one of our top players based on money alone, even though we're a 'bigger' club than they are, and arguably one of the three or four 'biggest' clubs in the world. It almost happened with Rooney, if the rumours are to be believed. So while it makes for good pisstaking we're not a million miles from where they are.
So true. This deal has made pete go back to his glorious bitter and funny self. One of the better things about RvP singing for United is watching Peter squirm. Hehe.
If he went for the money, he'd have gone to City for the £300k a week.Of course he went for the fecking money and got so much that another 20% was neither here nor there.

Without wishing to sound like a broken record, that depends on FFP. If UEFA follow through,City face permanent exclusion from Europe. How will their overpaid superstars like that?I've said it before and a lot of people disagreed, but sooner or later a club like City or Chelsea are going to take one of our top players based on money alone, even though we're a 'bigger' club than they are, and arguably one of the three or four 'biggest' clubs in the world. That's just fecking complete bollocks. What was the point of building a new stadium etc etc if they had no ambition? Even if Kroenke's just in it for the money he needs on-field success to maximise his investment. Are you going to keep ignoring the fact that Arsenal have shown no ambition over the past few years?
More capacity, better revenue? Building a new stadium doesn't necessarily mean a desire to win trophies. It can just be revenue maximization. That's just fecking complete bollocks. Well, my main argument against taking the piss out of Arsenal is that United are playing them in just over a week.I've said it before and a lot of people disagreed, but sooner or later a club like City or Chelsea are going to take one of our top players based on money alone, even though we're a 'bigger' club than they are, and arguably one of the three or four 'biggest' clubs in the world. Yeah, I don't really buy into that. I still think that whole thing was about money (and not a fear for lack of ambition), and that Rooney in the end got his pay rise.Rooney didn't get offered a bigger contract because of his transfer request the club simply called his bluff, do people not remember the SAF press conference he said the club had offered Rooney a huge deal and he turned it down and wants to leave he then went onto say the contract that had already been offered would remain on the table. This is clearly not what Rooney and his agent was expecting to happen and a day or 2 later went back and signed the deal.
The logic is he was doubling his salary already so he could afford to be picky about who he played for and with.
So what you're saying is, that he joined United only because of the money (50-70k more or whatever it is, no one really knows what he's on) but said "eh, no thanks" to City who were probably offering as much more than us as we were than you? Almost perfect Scouse logic. They did - they offered him £150K a week.
Quite a few I imagine. That's why they spend a shit load of money on decent players initially to get further up the table, so they could get into a position that would tempt world class ones.Get real - how many players did that stop from joining City when they hadn't won the league in 45 years.
I agree it was about money, but think the reason it became so public was because united called his bluff, it was made clear that the contract he had already been offered was a huge contractYeah, I don't really buy into that. He went from £100K to £250K, even he isn't greedy enough to ditch it for City's last minute £300K counter. So what you're saying is, that he joined United only because of the money (50-70k more or whatever it is, no one really knows what he's on) but said "eh, no thanks" to City who were probably offering as much more than us as we were than you? So why does the extra 20% matter in the case of 250/300 - yet it doesn't matter in regards to 100-150?...He went from £100K to £250K, even he isn't greedy enough to ditch it for City's last minute £300K counter.
Would think he would know exactly what City would offer in comparison to us. If he wanted the money he would have went to City see Nasri as an example. He went from £100K to £250K, even he isn't greedy enough to ditch it for City's last minute £300K counter.
How soon after joining did they win the league?Get real - how many players did that stop from joining City when they hadn't won the league in 45 years.
If they had got the new striker they wanted (RVP) they'd have been much happier getting rid of Tevez for less which has been the stumbling block over him leavingI do wonder was City ever really in for him. They couldnt get rid of Tevez or probably Dzeko to fit him in, both in terms of wages and squad place.
You already said he was offered 150k by Arsenal, which should be the comparison. You don't know how much he's earning at United either, but that's obviously not stopping you by inventing a figure that suits your argument. Well, it doesn't actually - as City offered more - but who cares about the argument anyway, when you can apparently just argue without any.He went from £100K to £250K, even he isn't greedy enough to ditch it for City's last minute £300K counter.
Fixed. He's probably on parity with Rooney.
*** Everything below is wild speculation. ***
Say Arsenal offered him £150k
We offer £220k and potential trophies
City offer £250k and trophies but without prestige of playing at such a prestigious club (I mean in the least biased way possible)
Knowing that RVP is such a "student of the game" I actually believe him when he says the things he does about this club. It's the whole package. Money, trophies, Ferguson, Old Trafford, History etc.
