With the semi finals no longer a possibility there'll be no reason to rest players when we go to the Emirates, and if we were to go there with the same lead we currently have...well, you can do the maths.

Imagine it, the most significant goal RVP has ever scored at the Emirates could be the one which wins United the title.

Totally agree. Rvps play with back to goal was crucial to our whole gameplan. Like I said often, many of welbecks bursts came from Rvp holding the ball, keeping it and putting welbeck into space. And yes his finishing was a bit disappointing but I guess he's a due a short blip in relation to that.
Absolutely and aside from the glaring miss in the first leg I don't see anything wrong with hs finishing. Hit the bar with a great effort, forced a great save in the Bernabeu. On Tuesday he didn't get a real opportunity. He was the lone striker in a team that had little of the ball, expectations should be lowered, though it pisses me off because I think we wasted him a bit, particularly at home.

Has gone back to Arsenal mode during the crunch time of the season. Early season RVP would have put the chance away.

Well Suarez and Bale way ahead of him in the Player of the season award now.

He needs to buck up.

He has been average at best in the last 7-8 games.

HELLO
Can't expect much from him when our midfield and wingers are offering nothing; he still drops deep and holds the ball up well occasionally, but to proper judge his performance we'll need a functioning midfield.

I think that's a fair point

Cant blame him for today's performance at all. All we did was pump balls to his head with 3 players around him.

Needs a rest. I doubt playing on that pitch is helping much.

Chelsea probably had 90% possession for the time RvP was on the field today, not much could have been expected. That being said 1 goal in 8 games is quite shocking for a player of his standard.

Barely had a touch of the ball. Him coming on was the logical decision, and it probably would have worked if the midfield decided to do something.

Nothing he could have done today when we keep hoofing it forwards when pressed.

I agree that he needs rest. We should have put the game away earlier so he didn't have to come on today. Though I don't agree with the midfield excuse. He was still scoring them in abundance at the beginning of the season when even Carrick was not at his best. He has underwhelmed for a few games now.

He deserves little blame. We gave him nothing. The only thing I would criticise him for is that one break between him and Welbeck.

Lad looks like he needs a rest though. Bit slow at times with his movement.

He's been pretty slow and labored over the last few games in general. This one week of rest will do him good though and I expect him to score next weekend.

No he definitely looked up for it vs Everton and Madrid and even QPR. Goals have dried up and now even his performances have dropped in the last few games.

Thing is even out of form his touch and class is still there which in turn makes me even more frustrated with Wayne.

His form has dropped at the moment. He is missing chances that at the beginning of the season he would have buried. Though today he didn't really get those chances at all. Was largely left isolated and we couldn't bring him into the game at all.

Start him against Reading. Even though he looks like he needs a rest he needs a goal first and foremost.

Can't see that he is short of confidence, don't buy this 'needs a goal', he hasn't scored as much as usual, but his play hasn't dropped and I wouldn't think a player of his calibre would let the goals worry him especially when he is backed by the manager...

Looks slow and knackered atm
This, I think his fitness is very poor at the moment and he doesn't look dynamic. That said if we created some clear openings for the guy, no doubt he'd score... Valencia wasn't creating anything for the guy.

An Arsenal supporting acquaintance of mine was telling me that when RVP goes cold, it takes a while for him to get back some form. A very generic statement. Take of that what you will. I think he was bound to run into a bad patch sooner or later.

I think his performance levels have dropped considerably in recent games.
I wont take yesterday into account as he had feckall service.

He was good against madrid, nothing special but good. came deep, held up the ball well and released players with good passes.

he was fantastic in the 1st leg up top on his own. superb performance.

I dont think he's been bad at all, he does need a goal though.

Totally agree, add to that he created a goal before being injured vs. Fulham.

The other i've noticed is that he hasn't played that much lately, or he hasn't played a full 90 minutes other than the Real game.

he does need a rest.

Fergie (and all fitness coaches) always talk about the importance of a thorough pre-season in order to eatablish a base fitness / stamina levels. sharpness comes from games.

Adrenaline of new club, new challenges and he's individual ability have taken him through the season.......what i think we are seeing now is a bit of tiredness due to not having a pre-season

I think you've nailed it.

I knew that pre-season would come back to bite him in the arse at some point.

Hopefully we can perform some magic in training to get him up to par.
