Watched this show on MUTV last night (had sky +'d it from a while ago)

It does exactly what it says on the tin. Every one of Ronaldo's 42 goals from last season, accompanied by ludicrous hyperbole from the MUTV commentator and the occasional, slightly confused, interjection from the legend that is Paddy McCrerand.

It really brought home to me what an amazing footballer the lad is. I couldn't help thinking what someone would think if they found that show on a DVD in a time capsule, 20 or 30 years from now. He scored literally every kind of goal. Tap-ins, fierce volleys, towering headers, long-range screamers, unbelievable free-kicks, you name it he scored it. He even scored with his cock. You also can see how he is two-footed, quick, strong, brave and incredibly athletic. And he scored 42 fecking goals, en route to winning us the domestic and European double.

Basically, if some future football fan opened that time capsule and they'd never seen Ronaldo play before, those 42 goals would absolutely blow their mind.

The shenanigans in the summer have tainted the way I feel about him and, in a way, taken the gloss of an amazing season for the club. This season's patchy form and petulance have made it even easier to focus on the negative and forget about his performances on the pitch last season. I don't think I'll ever hold Ronaldo in the same kind of esteem I have held other players at the club, both past and present. But, purely on a footballing level, I just wanted to remind everyone that one of the greatest footballing talents ever to walk this earth is currently playing for our club. And we should enjoy it while it lasts.

I can absolutely guarantee we will all be telling our grand-kids about "that boy Ronaldo" and how nobody in the modern game is a patch on how good he used to be (that's human nature after all) so I, for one, am gonna focus on enjoying the remainder of the career of "Ronaldo the footballer" while he still plays for MUFC, without getting my knickers in a knot about "Ronaldo the man". Sometimes in life you just need to kick back and appreciate what you have, before it's gone forever, I reckon this is one of those occasions.

Viva Ronaldo.

Good old Paddy, on half hour classics yesterday he said 'If he's got a thigh, he'll have to come off'
Hehe. His commentary on Ronaldo's first goal at Goodison was a classic of the genre.

"It's gone off Rooney... It's hit Rooney and it's gone in... What am I talking about?... Wayne Rooney was nowhere near the ball... What am I saying?"

The funny thing is his overall performances was probably better in o6/07 where he bagged 23 goals and 20+ assists, last season he became an incredibly ruthless, effective and brilliant goalscorer which was just another demonstration of his rapid development, maturity & meteoric rise in the footballing world, I remember Drogba saying at the end of the 06/07 season that Ronaldo would not score more than 23 goals again since he's not a machine.....

Him being the first United player to win the Ballon D'Or since Bestie puts into perspective what a phenomenal couple of seasons he's given us when you consider how many terrefic players we've had playing for us in between these 2 players' recognition of their footballing genius. There will however remain those who will continue to call him cnut and use any opportunity to have a go at him for various reasons, that's inevitable but hopefully there are more supporters like Pogue who also can recognize and appreciate what he's done for us and try to focus on the positives as well.

I think he was better in 06/07 when he frequently ripped teams up even if he didn't score - last season was mostly about the scoresheet.

There are players who have made a career "mostly about the scoresheet"

It was the combination of his newly-found Inzaghi-like abilities with the skill he showed in 06/07 that made him so special. He may not have gone on so many mazy dribbles but that was because he had discovered the art of goal-poaching, which means he was never gonna get a whole lot of chalk on his boots.

Last season was definitely his best at the club and I can give you 42 reasons why.

Good post Pogue

The summer did leave a bad taste in the mouth but in 20 years time if people are still bitter about the summer shenanigans instead of his 42 goals then they shouldn't be watching football or supporting United.

At last, some positive thoughts on Ronaldo - thank you very much for this!!

Seriously, the amount of negative stuff said about Ronaldo on this forum is ridiculous - it gets on my nerves!

The lad is the best footballer on the planet & is a wonderful entertainer - we should stop slating the guy, he's not perfect - instead we should just appreciate the sheer ability of Ronaldo, and enjoy it for however long he's at United for.

Viva Ronaldo!

yeah, I think despite his 42 goal return last season he was still pretty fecking good in other areas, he cut down on the unnecessary dribbling and showboating that made us sit on the edge of our seats in 06/07 and previous seasons but still displayed brilliant skill and moments of genius apart from the goals, it's just that such a goal tally masks that aspect of his game due to the amount of attention the goals alone get. I still think his football overall was easier on the eye in 06/07 but last season he was still pretty good in that regard, he just added another 20 goals for good measure. I certainly can't say I'd rather Ronaldo had given us a different sort of season than last, the reality is that it is extremely unlikely that you're going to get a 42-goal-in-47-game performance out of any other player in a single season in the toughest league as well as in Europe, let alone from a wide player who played with an ankle that needed an operation.

You make it sound as though its a bad thing. The scoresheet is where trophies are won & lost. Last season was all about Ronaldo putting all of the pieces together, and becoming the most prolific attacking player on the planet.

Well the season before he was the full monte - last season he was like an RvN playing off the wing.

That made me laugh I have to say. Our Paddy sometimes gets himself a tad confused

I've watched that too on MUTV and it's unbelievable the different types of goals he scored, he was so consistent he was finding the net in almost every match. I've seen a lot of ABU's (especially Dippers/Torres lovers) say that if Ronaldo hadn't scored so many penalties, Torres would have been the top scorer. They fail to realise that even without those penalties, he still would have came out on top

It doesn't upset people, seems like a pretty cheap dig at Ronaldo/Ronaldo fanboys though.

It would be a cheap dig he said Viva Nani or Viva Anderson, but he was talking about Cantona, a club icon.

And your view just happens to work as a dig at Ronaldo at the same time, funny that eh? ;)

I think you have a pretty odd view of your perception on here Heap.

You act as if because you're a matchgoing fan people don't like you're views on things, or that 'you're not welcome here', or something along those lines.

Can't really understand why to be honest.

Nothing to do with Viva Cantona, just that he decided to add in the bit about 'Ronaldo can go feck himself' instead of just leaving it at Viva Cantona.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, just thought I'd point it out.
