SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

It depends on your age, general health and whether you are equipped for possibly staying in Morocco for an extended time.
That’s it isn’t it, I’d be fine and if I got stuck in Morocco for a few more weeks would probably be okay financially.

The borders are currently open to the UK, however they just closed to a number of European countries, so there’s a good chance if I go I am stuck there.

Currently on hold examining if I can get a refund.

Just bare in mind that even fit and healthy people can need hospitalisation from this albeit at a lower rate. I'm not sure I'd want to end up in that state out there.

Lovely place though Morocco so enjoy if you do go!

Wtf? Who exactly told you that?

There are many so called experts who have different opinions.

Right @Amar__ last night, the Danish governments OWN experts on this stated clearly that shutting down the country was NOT advised by them and was purely political. That good enough for you?

And Donald Trump actually banned flights from Europe, but not the UK and Ireland, a decision so fecking stupid and see-through that he was forced to add the UK and Ireland to it JUST the following day. The scenes tweeted from O’Hare airport tell of plenty more political stupid decision making in the US.

But yeah, not political at all. How the feck can you even question that statement?

And now, as I've been arguing all week it appears the UK is about to make another sound, scientific based request:

Much better we do everything possible to isolate those with the highest risk, those with medical conditions should be allowed to be off work on full pay and we should pander to their every need. No point all of us going into isolation at this point.
How will elderly people get food if they're staying at home, especially as many don't use the internet?

Thanks mate! I will see what the flight people say to me and take their advice.

See the part of my post you quoted where I posted:

"highest risk, those with medical conditions should be allowed to be off work on full pay and we should pander to their every need. "

Yeah that part. We can pander whilst the economy is working and allows for it. What's the other option? Keep allowing the elderly out and putting themselves at massive risk?

Vallance when on Sky News and spent the entire time speaking about herd immunity. He barely spoke about any other measures.

But yeah bigotry and political.....

Not on these interviews he certainly doesn't. He spends nearly all the air time not talking about it and mentions that closures are in the tool kit.

UK communicated it terribly though, hardly a surprise when you have Boris as a leader.

He could have done better for sure but these medias are looking for sensational headlines. The actual information has been in the public arena all the time.

I guess some people hear what they want to hear.

I heard him talk about worst case scenarios, herd immunity, delay phase, closing schools, events etc. Most importantly I heard him talk about how important timing was with all of this and that it is all based on hard scientific evidence.

Smores just heard "herd-immunity" though.

Going to have to rely on their family and/or neighbours. The entire care sector in this country will collapse within a few weeks of this starting with most of the staff needing to stay home to look after young kids when the schools close. I work in the sector and honestly this is going to be a total shit show.

I wouldn't say they are contradicting themselves.

NSH: Paracetamol treats fever symptom

Campbell: Fever, if mild, can be beneficcial (special in the early stages) of infection because it's an immune response

Both are true. In the end, it's up the patient whether or not he wants to treat fever, if it's mild.

I personally would recommend it to anyone who feels down because of it, no nees to go through difficult symptoms based in some immunologic theory , which, being probably true, has little practical value.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure if by lowering the body's temperature it could somehow prolong the duration of the virus or cause other complications. I'm not a great sufferer so it's good to know I can use it!

We're in a similar predicament with a month long trip coming up at the end of April.

I'm pretty certain as things stand we can't get any refund, as there are no travel restrictions to the destinations.

To be fair, after the live interview, Sky repeatedly ran the herd 60% part for the rest of the day, as the only clip.

My brother in law has just got back from Snowboarding in Bulgaria, he's ok at the moment but two of his friends have got a fever and a cough.

Exactly this, I don’t want to lose lots of money.

Infections are going to sky rocket in Ireland over the next two weeks. Then what happened in Italy will happen in Ireland. Might even have to shut the border with NI if that is possible.

Doesnt help when loads of people are seeing singing and dancing in pubs last night. They are too dumb to realize what is coming.

My partner is a carer and she’s also heavily asthmatic, chest infections hit her really hard. Safe to say she’s pretty worried at the moment

No exactly, I know life / death is more important, of course it is. But we've been planning this so long, it's cost a fortune (to us at least), we timed it to coincide with my wife changing jobs too, as she'd never normally get this amount of time off.

From what I've looked into so far though, no one we've booked with is willing to give a refund as there are no restrictions in place.

this is 2020, we should all greet each other the way they do in Wakanda.

here in Nova Scotia, there are zero cases, the only province in Canada without one. In a place called cape breton, they have designated an hour in the mornings that seniors can go to the grocery store without anyone else present and right after the store has been completely wiped down and sanitized.

First official case in Uzbekistan. A local lady who arrived from France was tested positive. All passengers were allowed to go home and observe self isolation. Knowing our folk, they did sweet feck all. From tomorrow on all kindergartens, schools and unis are closed. All public events cancelled. Borders are to be closed as well. Taking into account the state of local healthcare system, I can only say, Lord please save us all. We as human race have managed to feck this planet up in 50 years. I guess it is payback time.

Yep and my travel insurance won’t cover until the government says I can’t travel.

It's not that stupid when other countries, experts, modelling and the WHO are following an approach that suggests that the UK's experts are wrong. Assuming that your country's experts are right just because they happen to be from your country would hardly be evidence of robust thinking.
I don’t think the WHO and our experts are right or wrong, I think they start from differing assumptions and the strategies follow from that. It seems like the UK approach is designed to accommodate a re emergence of the virus, where the WHOs perhaps expects all the stuff China etc did, would be done again... which might be as seemingly unrealistic in its way as some people are accusing the UK of being. We will see.

That seems like a very sensible, practical and manageable idea.

Dr John Campbell has a PHD but is a retired nurse. Paracetamol is fine. It will help you feel better symptomatically. There is no correlation between paracetamol use and worse prognosis in any disease.
Some advice from French health minister to avoid ibuprofen (precedent is that its tended to be avoid in certain viral infections e.g. chickenpox) but no evidence base cited
It amazes me that the UK has not been given guidelines on what to do if they get a fever. By the time the shit hits the fan the hotline will be overrun and useless.
