SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

I`d be interested to know the percentage of those young people who smoke, vape, smoke marijuana and hash, and use shisha pipes.
I heard but can`t confirm it that the Netherlands has such cases of young people - both the legalised drug culture there and Muslim immigrants/their children who use shisha pipes might explain that.
There were also cases last year in the US of vapers becoming very sick - again can`t give the reference but I read a couple of news stories from the US.
This is a no brainier really. We all know the damage chain smoking does to the lungs. This virus is known to absolutely savage the lungs, the two together are a cocktail for bad news. Here in the UK the level of smoking cigs and weed in the current day is actually mind boggling. There’s a dude I work with whos 25 and he’s constantly outside vaping (as in he’s saved in my phone as ‘Vapist’. Unsurprisingly he’s now very ill from corona. This thing may wake people up further to the dangers of smoking, especially young people.

If it came to it I would use the 24hr Tesco during the night, shoould be quiet and it also means they will be restocking shelves during the night as well.

Ive just ordered hand wash and toilet roll from Tesco and im collecting it on the 8th April. Should have enough to do until then, if we arent in lockdown at this stage.
Most if not all stores are shutting between 10pm-6am due to folk having the same idea as you. In our store shoppers were grabbing stuff from the pallets before they even reached the shelf. No need for it, there is plenty and the supply chain is good with deliveries to stores unaffected. It's madness.

At least we've broke step with Italy's death toll, for now. They went from 233 to 366.

After Sunday's activity we could catch up and overtake. Looks like bonfire night around my way this afternoon. So many walking and driving about, not a typical mother's day with a few walkers.

People are dumb. It's not new information, if the government had been clear in it's messaging and implemented the necessary restrictions then things would be a lot better than they are now. If you give people an inch they're going to take a mile, the fact that none of those people are actually breaking the law says it all. They've been allowed to decide for themselves and it's madness when it's a public health concern rather than an individual one.

Yeah, when people don’t see their actions directly negatively effecting the situation, they’ll carry on, unless ordered not to.

The problem with the virus is you may be asymptomatic and have passed it on to plenty in a supermarket/pub/on the train where you’ve been touching the surfaces and indirectly killed dozens, or you may be completely fine and effected no one. The problem is it’s impossible to measure that, and there’s no culpability to the damage you could have done.

Whilst people can still live their lives and feel like they’re not contributing to the pandemic because they’ve got no symptoms, this’ll continue.

We need to take the measures that Italy are. It won’t be until 3-4 weeks time when those who were blasé during the last couple weeks start to realise that they played a part in this when the death numbers spiral

Spain had a couple days like this at the same point and caught back up the day after. Think you’d have to see three days of more modest growth before you could get hopeful.

Apart from stating the obvious, what has caused all the panic in England? The press? TV?
It is completely normal in Japan.
cost of companies to advertise on news channels and within news programs has gone up 1000%.

Massive $$$ making opportunity for previously dying TV news industry.

UK government is genuinely obsessed with doing it right rather than doing the right thing. Absolute madness going on right now

Get in there. Let's hope it's all downhill from here for Italy.

Good news for us too with cases and deaths down from the expected trend

Summer heat having an effect on the virus (weather is lovely and warm in the UK this weekend)?? Doubt it though, since South East Asia and Africa are on the upwards trend.

So there's these letters going out to 1.5 million people telling them to stay home for 12 weeks.

The gov.uk site includes amongst these "people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment".

Do you think it's safe to assume that with MPN, which is a much less serious type of blood cancer than those, that I won't be asked to stay home?

Iran's Khamanei refuses US help to fight coronavirus, citing conspiracy theory

Iran's supreme leader refused US assistance on Sunday to fight the new coronavirus, citing an unfounded conspiracy theory that the virus could be man-made by America

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's comments come as Iran faces crushing US sanctions blocking the country from selling its crude oil and accessing international financial markets.

But while Iranian civilian officials in recent days have increasingly criticized those sanctions, 80-year-old Khamenei instead chose to traffic in the same conspiracy theory increasingly used by Chinese officials about the new virus to deflect blame for the pandemic.

“I do not know how real this accusation is but when it exists, who in their right mind would trust you to bring them medication?" Khamenei said. "Possibly your medicine is a way to spread the virus more.”

He also alleged without offering any evidence that the virus “is specifically built for Iran using the genetic data of Iranians which they have obtained through different means.”

“You might send people as doctors and therapists, maybe they would want to come here and see the effect of the poison they have produced in person," he said

Boris’ points here are so mixed, his messaging needs to be tougher and he’s too slow in bringing in tighter measures. It’s quite clear people aren’t listening to social distancing.

It's March.

So stay inside but go out to exercise but only if you keep 2 metres apart... ffs just stop it for 2 weeks now rather than when it’s too late.

Beyond frustrating

Yes, the people deserve criticism, but also, this morning Robert Jenrick, the current housing secretary, was on Sophy Ridge saying its fine to take your kids to the park, to go out for a walk.

You can't say that and then moan when people go foa walk in the park.

This is a failure of government. And I dgaf who gets their panties in a bunch for me saying it.

It's only been 10 degrees here today. That said sunshine meant the country park was pretty busy with families when I walked through it a few hours ago. Going to be big issue if there's a heatwave in may as that's when the peak is predicted to be.

Have Italy's death and/or cases numbers gone down?

“When you’re a clown, nobody takes you seriously.”

True.

I just don’t get his point where he says ‘if people still continue to not listen to the advice then we’ll go to the next level’, it’s so painfully clear that people aren’t getting it. I was out on my bike today and I lost count of cyclist groups, walkers, family’s all disregarding the instructions.

He only seems to think to action when it’s staring him right in his face.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d'état

Would you call this a conspiracy theory?

In August 2013, sixty years afterward, the U.S. government formally acknowledged the U.S. role in the coup by releasing a bulk of previously classified government documents that show it was in charge of both the planning and the execution of the coup, including the bribing of Iranian politicians, security and army high-ranking officials, as well as pro-coup propaganda.
The CIA is quoted acknowledging the coup was carried out "under CIA direction" and "as an act of U.S. foreign policy, conceived and approved at the highest levels of government".

Would you have called it a conspiracy theory before August 2013?

If you were Iranian would you trust USA and UK without question?

The failure in messaging carries on, leaving policy aside our PM should be leaving no room for doubt and yet he repeatedly is.

If anything with his continued talk of future measures if necessary are just encouraging people to go out now.

When you've got a bumbling, waffling d*ck as Prime-minister no ones going to take that bumbling, waffling d*ck seriously, which is why the majority of people voted for him.

Are those questions for me?

He’s refusing to even say the word lockdown, let alone implement one. Imbecile.

Boris is like Thanos, an incredibly shit powerless version. Seemingly though he's still doing his absolute best to halve the population of the UK.

CIA initiating coups are different from claiming that the US released a genetically engineered disease designed to target "Iranian DNA".
