Scotty didn’t look fit for this match. The acceleration wasn’t there and he looked more hesitant than normal. No one expected him turn in another Leeds performance but he just wasn’t really there today.
Agreed.

I don’t know if he was asked to look after Vardy when he dropped deep but he somehow managed to be hiding behind Vardy whenever our CBs were looking for an out ball. He just looked like he didn’t want the ball. Was also slow closing down space in front of the back 4. He was the type of player we needed out there but had a poor game.

Bloody hell. 21 passes over 90 minutes? That's astonishing for a central midfielder.

Where'd you get those stats though? I would have thought Fred would have had more as well.
From whoscored, his number of accurate passes was actually the same as Schmeichel.

Basically left Fred to play midfield by himself. No idea how he stayed on for the full 90.

Superb against Leeds and a shocking mistake today that handed Leicester a goal. Why oh why did he just stand and watch Barnes and give him all the time in the world to shoot and score. Really disappointing to see such pathetic defending. We need to sort that out or can forget any title challenge.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Fred literally attempted three times the amount of passes. That's incredible considering they were partners in a two man midfield.

Pogba only attempted 10 in the 40 minutes he was on, so he wasn't much better. I guess he was playing in a higher position though so it's not quite the same.

Pogba for Mctominay and Cavani for James were the subs we needed. Can't believe Scott played full 90. Was pretty much a traffic cone for the entire game.

He was instructed to get forward more in the Leeds game. He was told to stay back more in this one. That’s he reason he didn’t close Barnes down perhaps.
What does staying back have to do with not closing down a player near the edge of the box lining up a shot? That’s one of the basic reasons for staying back.

He was actually quite a bit worse than normal. I'd actually be interested to see the stats as off the top of my head I can't remember a central midfielder making so few passes and having such little involvement. There's a reason so many people in here have used the word 'invisible' to describe his match.
Thanks.

Saw the stats replied to you also, puts his performance last week into perspective for those likening him to this or that player - I’ve seen/heard enough of his ineffective performances to know he needs to be improved upon if we’re going anywhere.

I don't know what he was doing with not closing Barnes down. A really weird decision that probably cost a goal.

Looks like he's trying to cut off the angle, he looks like he knows Bailly is there. Not sure what to make of that, I'd be shitting it whenever Bailly is around me . This was not a good game for him, worrying that if he's not fit we can't just leave him out. He'll run through walls because he's that kind of player but not at a detriment to the team.

He was completely non-existent today. I hardly saw him doing anything and it is very tough to be invisible in the position he plays. Most of the time when our defenders had the ball he hid behind their two forwards and hence wasn't available to pick it up and pass it forward. I wasn't really sure what his role was today as neither was he anchoring the defense, nor spraying passes to our front 4. It seemed to me that he was in the team because we need to field 11 players.

Remember seeing a post on reddit stating he's reached the levels of Fletcher, after the Leeds game.

Maybe was rushed back, didn't look his usual energetic self.
I thought he looked off the pace, and given that he was clutching his groin at the end of the Leeds game, I was very surprised to see him playing today. I think Pogba should've gotten the start (not that he played particularly well either, but at least he looked fully fit.)

Oh dear, the replay of McT’s lack of movement on the Barnes goal is criminal indictment material. I have no doubt now that he wasn’t fit to play, despite what we have to believe was his insistence to the manager he was fit. Scotty wanted to play, Ole obviously he gave him enough rest by having him skip Everton, but we can safely say now in retrospect that it was a mistake to go with Scotty for this one.

Ole, give him a couple of weeks off to get through this, ok?

Probably carrying an injury, will give him the benefit of the doubt for this one.

Still highlights why we need a specialist DM though

Do Scotland play him at the back? Could he fit in a back three at United or even partner Maguire?

It seems this is where Jose thought he might develop.

He should have closed down for their first yesterday for sure but I think he is developing into a fine player for us, he can be a very good player if he keeps developing.

Leicester reinforced my feeling hes not really very good when hes put under pressure. He doesnt react quickly enough on or off the ball. It was always Fred showing for the ball and he wasnt closing down space either.

He can be useful but hes not one we should start in every game.

Made his debut over 3 years ago now and has played the better part of 100 games, can't keep waiting for him to develop into something he isn't. He's a bog average hoofer and one good game against Leeds doesnt outweigh all the anonymous performances. He's never once threatened to have a game like that Leeds game before. He needs replaced, quickly. Can't carry passengers through the spine of the team.

He was very poor but on the other hand we don't know how much he trained in the week given he tweaked his groin only a week before. One swallow does not a summer make, he's a squad player and one superb performance followed by one poor one doesn't change that.

He has a terrible habit of hiding from the ball. Did it yesterday again and he has done it in the past. Imagine if Fred or Pogba were deliberately avoiding responsibility in midfield, they'd be crucified.

He was way too hesitant to get across and stop Barnes getting the shot off, but neither him or Fred are DM's, they are both box to box and best when hunting the ball rather than covering the defense unless we simply park them side by side in front of the CB's. McTominay isn't agile enough deeper against tricky forwards, but when he competes further up he's a different beast.

Noticed this a lot in the 1st half. Was a bit frustrating.

Maybe not 100% but then why in the starting 11?

Good squad player but he doesn't have the passing range for cmf and he can't play dmf. He's effective in certain games but not good enough to be a regular starter, he'll have more games like yesterday than the ones he had against Leeds.

Didn’t have time to show his worth today - he only played for how long, 45 seconds? Still an appearance to be counted in official statistics
