In fairness we all had an issue with Varane last season! Hoping him and Martinez turn into a high quality partnership this year.

Unpopular opnion, but he was right about Pogba. And I don't think he is wrong about Martinez. There are going to be games where he struggles to cope with big physical strikers.
Luckily for him he hasn't really faced any in the last 2 games so he has looked good, also in those games we have mostly sat deep and never really got into a high line so its much easier to defend.

He was right that a £90m player should be getting 5 assists a game but when he was asked about Grealish he was like, he is a fantastic player whilst contributing nothing.

Also, people talking about Martinez struggling to cope against big physical strikers, yes, that will happen. It happens to Maguire who is not 5'9. Haaland has been bullying every defender, even taller ones.
Just because a defender is taller, does not mean they wont get bullied by a big physical striker, I have seen the best defenders get bullied.
If a ST has a good game against Martinez, its not just because he is small, the strikers are actually good at times too.

He went over the top with his critiscm but he just really didn't like him and thought he was overrated and thought far too much of himself. Again he's not wrong in that assessment.
In terms of martinez the issue will be the high balls/aerial duels that he dosent attempt to win, because he knows he cant win them. How well he then deals with those second balls will be make or break him. Jury is still out on that at the moment.
You said Souness was right about Pogba. Go have a look at the sky sports pre game, City v Spurs last season when United beat Leeds and Pogba got 4 assists.
