Souness at it again…

Maybe Sourness can persuade Liverpoo to spend big to partner Van Dijk with poor old Maguire.

If and when they get Maguire playing good ball again it'll be "see I told you he was mistreated the boy can play." There's no winning with that dude.

This is totally a Liverpool fan agenda. The circus around United in the media is next level and him + talksport is the epitome of this!

It seems more like a Maguire agenda.

Back to back Motm performances by Martinez but still he and several other Talk Shite pundits criticize him.
Over a season of absolutely woeful performances by Maguire but somehow he is treated unfairly because we benched him...

He will win lot of duels and like any other defender he will lose few. Whenever he loses aerial duel these morons will confirm their biases completely ignoring every CB loses duels.

He has a point. Martinez is too short and too aggressive like South Americans often are. We should sign a tall slow, yet strong, ponderous British defender with boring hair instead :wenger:

If Souness didn't make these nonsens comments he wouldn't be nowhere close to get this much airtime. He has built himself a persona that always goes against the flow and upsets the fans - i cant believe that even himself believe the things he express.

No, he doesnt. Yes he is a weirdo, but dont go that route...
Despite the evidence, don't go that route Why not? He's demonstrated prejudice even against women's football and not retracted his statement or apologised even in retrospect. Is it not likely he has bias in other areas?

I could see him being right about Martinez in the long run (people are getting carried away as usual), of course that won't change the fact of his weird Pogba fixation, but we'll see.

Souness is a man looking to stay relevant by being controversial. I don't care what height Martinez is if he keeps getting MOTM and putting in solid performances. We have plenty of tall players sitting on the bench that can reach the tea and biscuits on the top shelf for him after the games.

Evidence of what? He has been slagging off many players, with all kind of skin color

hypothetically , they are all 23 years old, 30 million and available but we won't buy them shall we as they are too small Mr Souness? their names are Dani Alves. Marscherano, Cannavaro.Passarela,Baresi

I think if you slag off a person for holding a bias he has not shown, based on him being biased in other matters, you are doing bias 2.0 yourself. And you wouldn’t wan’t anyone to say ‘fluctuation0161 likely has bias in other areas too’?

He explained what he meant and an apology wasn't really necessary. Most people realised Carney and Carragher were laughing at the double entendre rather than reacting to a perceived slight.

What's he been saying about Martinez now?

Ugh that rant is so annoying. As others have said, as soon as he doesn't win an aerial duel everyone will be saying "I told you so", ignoring the fact that literally every defender loses aerial duels.

Honestly I haven't been as immediately impressed with a center back in years, as I am with Martinez. That includes Varane last year and our 80 million pound captain.

You're trying too hard here. Though I don't always agree with his footballing opinions, Souness always strikes me as someone who actually has well-grounded morals.

In a normal workplace, he'd be disciplined and potentially fired for bullying. Proper Brexit man thinking

Why does this fossil get attention? He's a miserable old ex Liverpool player talking crap against a rival, no different to thousands of other bellends who troll on twitter each day. Best ignored

When Simon Jordan explained that Fabio Cannavaro was the same height as Lisandro only for Sourness to reply with "I trust me eye, don't trust Wikipedia and stuff like that" was a special moment

for me the bigger issue is this talk means that whenever there is a 50-50 he will not get the benefit of decisions because people will always believe that he is fouling as he can’t win it legally

Unpopular opnion, but he was right about Pogba. And I don't think he is wrong about Martinez. There are going to be games where he struggles to cope with big physical strikers.

Luckily for him he hasn't really faced any in the last 2 games so he has looked good, also in those games we have mostly sat deep and never really got into a high line so its much easier to defend.

I'm not writing him off, but the jury is definitely still out.

He was right that a £90m player should be getting 5 assists a game but when he was asked about Grealish he was like, he is a fantastic player whilst contributing nothing.

He isn't wrong about Martinez? He said he specialises in nothing.

Also, people talking about Martinez struggling to cope against big physical strikers, yes, that will happen. It happens to Maguire who is not 5'9. Haaland has been bullying every defender, even taller ones.

Just because a defender is taller, does not mean they wont get bullied by a big physical striker, I have seen the best defenders get bullied.

If a ST has a good game against Martinez, its not just because he is small, the strikers are actually good at times too.

What has grealish got to do with anything? He didnt like pogbas attitude questioned his commitment and mentality, he wasn't wrong about that. He did have attitude, commitment and mentality issues. He went over the top with his critiscm but he just really didn't like him and thought he was overrated and thought far too much of himself. Again he's not wrong in that assessment.

In terms of martinez the issue will be the high balls/aerial duels that he dosent attempt to win, because he knows he cant win them. How well he then deals with those second balls will be make or break him. Jury is still out on that at the moment.

You said Souness was right about Pogba. Go have a look at the sky sports pre game, City v Spurs last season when United beat Leeds and Pogba got 4 assists.

He said, for 90m player, you expect 4 assists a game, but for Grealish he said no thats not what he expects.

How is he right about that?

The issue with Martinez is aeriel balls, can you please point to me another CB with a better aeriel duels % won this season? So how is he the highest percentage if he is not going for aeriel duels?

That was also not the only thing Souness said, he said he is not good at other elements of defending too. How is that correct?

All the advantages lie with the striker he’s the one who knows the next move so yes defenders are always up against better footballers knowing their next move. Also where is Souness criticising VVD lately as they endured an awful start. Their fans are calling his performances out for what they’ve been…”lazy”. Instead he says nothing and Liverpool as expected pick up again and that period never happened. The problem is our social media team is garbage. They should be constantly mocking these stories and batting them away.

People are acting as if the Dutch league has no big attackers, the CL not having them.

Its funny when they say, watch when he comes up against Haaland, when there is clear evidence of what happened, they need to go watch that game, Ajax destroyed them.

I dont think the club need to respond to washed up pundits.
