Suarez bites | "sorry for falling into him and biting him and that"

Reckless is reckless, whether it's deliberate or someone who just happens to do it repeatedly yet didn't intend to. Dangerous is dangerous and not everything has the same import. A bite is bizarre but tearing someone's ACL is more dangerous, for me

Suarez is an absolute prick on the pitch, I thought this was well established a long time ago. He will do anything to gain an advantage but how dangerous is he out there? I think a ban should reflect the severity of that danger

You just said that he'll do anything to gain an advantage, yet you question the danger he possesses? that's a bit of a contradiction mate.

It is very rare for footballers to go into tackle deliberately trying to injure another footballer. Pepe has done it, Keane did it out of vengeance, maybe a few other players in the past decade. The vast majority of injury inflicting tackles were accidental.

Suarez is well capable of seriously hurting players around him.

Deliberate is only part of the context. De Jong, how often has he taken out a player with a ridiculous challenge? Medela? Pereira? You could see them arguing none of it has been intentional yet they are routinely at the center of these situations. There are fewer butchers on the pitch than yesteryear, to be sure, but some are simply more insidious in their madness than even Suarez

Yet the deliberate offenders, are they banned from the game? No. So if an animal like Pepe isn't kicked out of the game how could anyone rationalize a biter should be? Clean up the game and don't look for media examples to give the illusion of integrity

Terry Butcher on how Liverpool should react:
The club need to wait until after the World Cup, and then assess what he is like mentally and what he is like dentally.

I dont get the last part, he deserves a severe punishment and a severe punishment will befit the crime.
Yes but it's the severity of the punishment that is the issue. Talk of a global 12 month-24 month - life bans from all football are totally OTT.

The non-photoshop picture has been confirmed :

I suspect our Paddy's doomed when the FA find that the bite marks don't match Suarez but are instead an exact match for Evra.

Clearly Suarez is removing a set of false dentures here:

and it's obvious how the cunning sewer rat got a dental imprint of Paddy to frame him:

Evra, lifetime ban.

I've actually only just found out Suarez bit someone again.

I hope FIFA throw the book at him and ban him for a very long time. How many misconduct offences has he committed in recent years now. What a vile fecking human being. Dogs actually get put down for less...

I think he will get 10 to 15 matches ban.

As it was said here Josip Šimunić got a 10 match ban on international level for so called fascist slogans he yelled after the Iceland match. So anything less than that for Suarez would be ridiculous.

Because for all of their incident the likes of Pepe and De Jong have been able to avoid biting players.

I may be wrong but I dont think they would just make decisions for our FA, its their turf.
You're obviously wrong. The FA is a member of FIFA, so it has to comply with their rules. Otherwise England wouldn't be at the World Cup. FIFA controls World Football.

And FIFA doaas unleash international bans. A few players from Portugal were banned from all football in WC 2002 after assaulting the referee. If they deem Suarez's actions serious enough they will unleash him a ban that will apply at club level as well. Though I suspect it will only be an international ban, it's well within their power to do more than that.

Pepe is just dumb I think. He's not that malicious, he just lets the emotions get the best of him, aside from the disgusting behavior towards Getafe player has he done anything as bad as that since?

Obviously players who set out to deliberately foul other players should be punished severely as well. These are two separate things go - just because someone else has got away with a different crime can't mean Suarez should too.

Very dangerous. You let him off with a bite tomorrow he pokes your eye and you lose an eye because 'these things happen'.

That line of thinking is a slippery slope because while he has not yet injured anyone longterm or attempted to, he should be punished because he might? Very thin

Some semblance of reality. Well spoken.

As I mentioned before, a Red Card and a 3 match ban for breaking someone's leg or otherwise injuring them so that they are either out of action for an extended period or it ends their careers and most people tend to mildly condemn it and then move quickly on. The British in particular find spitting & biting more reprehensible than other more violent forms of on-pitch thuggery that results in actual debilitating injuries. I'm assuming Suarez does not have HIV or Rabies here ;)

'These things happen on the pitch'

His latest comments should give FIFA more of a reason to ban this animal for a lengthy period of time. He shows no contrition and from his comments you get the impression that he thinks it could happen again. If he thinks biting is part of the game, just remove him from the game altogether.

I think that would be reasonable and deserved.

He has tried to injure players plenty of times. One time he might actually succeed. He's a psychopath so he won't mind breaking someone's leg, poking their eye etc.

Oh come on mate, you're reasoning is flawed here. Again, if you believe he'll do anything to gain an advantage and he's bitten three people now(as far as we know anyway.) well then how can you dismiss the notion that it should be considered what he might do next?

Hilarious

It was funny at first, but then I just filled with hatred towards the guy. He is honestly one of the worst human beings to have ever played professional football at such a high level. Some of the things he does go far beyond being just a nutcase footballer, which would involve diving, elbowing, bad tackles etc. He's actually just a terrible human, which includes all of those things + the biting and racism.

Equating a fascist to a biter? Yeah, I don't agree with this either

You know what would be even better than a ban? him having to wear a mask to stop him biting, now that I would pay to see!

I'm not equating, I'm just comparing.
What do you think, Suarez should get a shorter ban?

Btw Šimunić is not a fascist.

Pointing out how someone banned for fascist tendencies is a bigger danger to everyone than one biter. So yes, a biter should get a shorter ban

Courts don't punish people for what they may do next .. a peeper may turn into a rapist but we can not make that assumption and judges will not punish him for the potential.

So there's a longterm risk from a bite that outweighs an ACL injury from a horror tackle, even by intent? Does seem simple
If you want to have a discussion, perhaps we could keep it to things I have said, not things you'd like me to have said, eh?

My point is very simple. Biting is a vicious, abhorrent act. It should be punished accordingly. But so should dangerous tackles. Quite obviously, though, they're separate, unrelated things.

A peeper can hardly be compared to taking the plunge and fecking digging your teeth into somebody ffs.

That's with the world watching too.

It's not the only outrageous incident from Suarez in a world cup either. Here is an example of blatant cheating in the 2010 world cup.

As it is his 3rd incident I think he should be banned from international football for 2 years, maximum ban. In fact just ban him from all football for 2 years that would be amazing. Not at all bias!!

No but a biter is a biter, there's a risk he could cause serious harm next time he feels hungry.

Football is about sportsmanship, too. The De Jong or Van Bommel cases, or Gravesen or whoever don't apply here. At least they stand to their behaviour.
Suarez is a disgraceful human being and I would be very dissappointed if he would play another game in this tournament. Or the next one.

It's a perfectly good simile ... a crime and a punishment but no assumption they will commit a more serious crime sometime in the undetermined future. Insert any other simile you like, the result is the same. You can't punish someone for what they may or may not potentially do.

Luis Suárez ‘bite’ leaves Swedish gamblers counting their winnings
• More than 100 gamblers paid out by bookmaker after incident
• ‘I didn’t think he would bite, but that he’d do something stupid’
Fifa opens disciplinary proceedings after Suárez controversy

While the Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini reacted with horror after appearing to be bitten by the Uruguay striker Luis Suárez in their World Cup match, a handful of gamblers in Scandinavia were celebrating as their unlikely bet was paid out on.

The online bookmaker Betsafe had been offering odds of 175-1 that the Uruguayan, twice banned for biting, would sink his teeth into an opponent during the World Cup in Brazil. Sure enough, more than 100 gamblers decided that it was worth a punt. When Suárez seemingly did just that to Chiellini near the end of their Group D clash in Natal, it was time to celebrate.

One winner, Jonathan Braeck from Stenungssund in Sweden, bet 80 Swedish krona (£7) that Suárez would bite, and the 23-year-old substitute teacher is now set for a payout of 14,000 krona (£1,225) for his wager.

“First I thought I’d bet a little more, but a friend said I was just wasting my money,” a delighted Braeck told the SportExpressen newspaper. “When Italy took over the game you knew that he could go a little crazy,” he added. “I didn’t think that he would bite, but that he’d do something stupid. Then he did the best stupid thing that he could do.”

Uruguayan fans give their opinions on the incident.
Betsafe confirmed the wager, saying: “We can gladly confirm that our customer won 14,000 krona because Suárez remarkably bit an opponent – again,” Patrik Oqvist, Betsafe’s marketing manager told the newspaper. “We had fun setting these strange odds and it’s very nice that a customer got it right.”

Braeck said he intends to spend some of his winnings on travelling to a Premier League game in England, but he will not be visiting Liverpool to see the man who helped fund his trip. “It will be a trip to Manchester. I’m going to try to find someone to go with me to Manchester United,” he said. “If I had [Suárez’s] home address I’d send him a thank-you card. It was very nice of him to bite and give me a trip to Manchester.”
