So here is a loaded question for whoever feels comfortable getting into it - but at least from my perspective it appears a lot of folks with Indian backgrounds and involved in politics in one way or another seem to be relatively to extremely conservative (a Dinesh D'Souza is one of those extremes for example). Obviously Harris is also quite the opposite of someone subscribing to a bunch of liberal ideas.

Why is that? Seems to obviously not just be isolated to the US as the Patel example in the UK shows, and though I havent paid attention much to Canada - I would suspect its the same there. Is that perspective wrong? And if not - why is it that way? I presume we have a bunch of folks reading this who are either Indian or of Indian descent and Im genuinely curious.
It's pretty straightforward. Indian society, like many societies in the developing world, is very conservative.

I believe in US, higher percentage of people from Indian backgrounds are Democrats as compared to some latino groups. (Last poll I saw had 66% in favour of Biden). In Canada, Sikh community from India is outwardly progressive even if they have resisted reforms within their religion/community.

Also the comparison of Kamala Harris with Priti Patel is laughable. That's like saying Hillary Clinton is same as Thatcher or worse even La Pen. Kamala Harris is not a progressive but she is your bog standard liberal Democrat. Hard conservatives don't get selected as senators from California, establishment liberals do.

If the Democrats don't flip the senate by winning the run-offs in Georgia, then it becomes irrelevant. The only way to pass legislation will be through compromise with the GOP and by definition some kind of bipartisan centrism.

If the Dems do flip the senate, then yeah, it'll be a real fight over how to change America. And that will be a good thing!
This is where a loss was a win. Don’t think Stacey Abrams would have had the impact she did in GA if she had won the governor’s race in 2018.

Fair play to AOC. She has been on point since the race was called, pressing for the need to push Biden admin on progressive policies and how important cabinet picks can be. Additionally fighting the moderate driven media narrative of progressives/left costing Dems a more comprehensive victory.

YESHHHHH, We'll GOOO for it.
What are the odds that Dems will win the 2 votes in Ga,.have control of the senate and do nothing like packing the court or pass real meaningful measures but continue to keep reaching out to the right wing mofos.

The modern day Republican party has no interest in being bipartisan. They're never worried about upsetting liberals infact they spend most of their time purposefully upsetting liberals.
Universal healthcare, free public education, a living wage, decisive action on climate change, dismantling the military industrial complex are not some pie in the sky far fetched left looney ideas, they are ideas supported by a majority of Americans according to all the polls even the FOX News polls.
Yet they control the levers of emotional power so well.

Look at what was bandied about during the run in to the ACA vote - death panels, budget explosions, no one would be able to keep their doctors, months-long waits for basic care, basically a version of medical Armageddon.

Look at what’s being said now - enemies lists with mass deportations, black SUVs rounding up right wing media figures, imminent NK nuclear war, complete socialism starting 1.21.2020.

They’re so adept at ratcheting up the vitriol especially on the socialism angle. Left wingers got upset after both major social redistributions of wealth through tax cuts this century, but we didn’t rise up in armed conflict, yet any time any degree of redistribution of wealth to assist in a strengthening of the social safety net, socialized medicine, etc. gets met with this hyperbole, grandiosity, & lies that foments abject derision from the right which keeps getting reinforced through every right wing media outlet (which vastly dwarfs the left wing media world)

It’s a repeat on repeat. We have the receipts from back to 2000, but the right won’t care. They effectively control the media in this country through overwhelming numbers of outlets. The challenge has been & will continue to be how to combat the hyperbole & the alternative facts, the eternal chess match against a pigeon. When will it become obviously useless to those on the left that placating & coddling many of those on the right hasn’t worked & wont work? When will that critical mass be reached?

Hopefully we can win these GA senate races to be able to align the government politically & grease the skids somewhat, but more than likely the alternative fear facts machine will overwhelm the voting electorate in this state & entrench more of the status quo.

Which says a lot about where liberalism is today. Again check the thread I posted on the last page. Harris is a conservative.

Even if they win the two run-offs, they’d still only have 50 seats. They would need complete unity to pass legislation - senators like Joe Manchin aren’t gonna go along with packing the court. No chance.

They have the tie break vote. They should try instead of sitting on their asses
“Joe Manchin will you vote for packing the court?”
“No.”

Same reason Obama was forced to drop the public option from the ACA.

I saw someone say that the run-offs will be the difference between the median Senator being Collins, Murkowski or Manchin, which I think is a good way of thinking about it. That said, there's a pretty big gap between what you can pass if you have one of the Repubs or Manchin, as well as who you can appoint. Important to have the majority as well.

Definitely! It would make a huge difference.

But people thinking they’d be able to pack the court or make DC a state are badly deluded. They might not even be able to get rid of the filibuster.

Yeah, think Manchin has spoken against removing the filibuster too. Although, he was clearly annoyed in how the GOP behaved with Coney-Barrett. But realistically all that stuff needed a wave election and about 52 in the Senate. The alternatives now are - broadly supportive of the agenda vs complete intransigence.

Quit slandering people like a moron.

Biden in a 3 year sample of his political career has probably done more good than someone like you ever will your entire life.
Just stop.

I checked that thread, a lot of of good info that I agree with though some is a reach as well. More pertinently, one can create one for Biden and even Clinton (both of them) on similar lines too. She is your standard establishment liberal. People forget that under Obama/Biden deportations increased at a high rate as well and everyone knows about the ramp up on drones' attacks. Add to it the non action against Wall Street and you can classify the whole admin as a conservative one. AGs in US by design and history work very closely with law enforcement agencies and before the current movement it was the norm for them to be tough on law and be more aligned with DAs and police in the state. As a senator her record is same as any other establishment liberal, for example almost everyone always approves military budget. You instead seem to be trying to paint her as a blue dog from a mid-west or south who at times is working with Republicans to pass hardcore conservative policies. Biden/Harris can be criticised for plenty of things without trying to reach for hyperbolic labels.

Oh man
This reminds me of the Rawk picture with Rodgers looking into the cloudes that turned into a meme.
"How am I doing boss?" McCai "You`re doing great son, just lower taxes a bit more and don`t listen to that environmental stuff".

Was McCain a racist? I don’t remember anything about it. He was Bush 2.0 though.
Not really. It actually was overt racism in detestable robocalls that derailed his 2000 campaign in South Carolina.

Just stop with not using baseless allegation as rape? Don't be stupid.
You claiming Biden did more good in any 3 years of his life than someone who you don't know is a baseless allegation. If you have a point you can make it without those types of posts.

It's a stupid idea anyways. MA has a Republican governor, which would mean she would be replace by a Republican in the Senate. Same with Sanders.
Can't speak for Sanders but MA's legislature has the ability to force MA's republican governor to select a replacement from the same party.

He'd probably select someone to the right of Manchin who identifies as Democrat... Ok feck that...
