The Bruno Fernandes appreciation thread

He's the one United player I've been most impressed with. Yes they're lapses here and there, but with solid 2DM behind him to cover spaces behind him, his best will be seen.

Spurs fan here ("For My Sins") and I'll be honest, I didn't used to think much of Fernandes. But I was at the recent game at WHL and saw a different side. I have to say, Maddison did a bit of a number on him, in the first half at least. And a number of Fernandes' passes went astray etc.

But as the game went on, he never hid; on the contrary, he worked his socks off, in all areas of the pitch, and you could see that he cared. And that's not something you could say for all his teammates

That's a very nice cartoon of Bruno. Is there an app for that?

He looks like a happy little gnome in the first pic.

I'm so glad he's staying. I really think we'll do him proud next season.

Yeah fair fecks to him. Don’t think anyone ever doubted he loved the club and loved playing here but that was a test of resolve that offer and he’s shut it down when 99% of footballers would have gone in that situation:.

It does make it quite interesting in terms of where he plays going forward. You’d imagine Mbeumo and Cunha have to take up those two positions behind the striker.

The thing about his age is it doesn’t really matter cos he’s a natural exceptionally fit player. I can easily see him keeping up this level of fitness and workrate for another 3-4 years.
Yes we won’t get that 100 million now but it’s not a sure fire thing we’d spend that money and get better results. You certainly would struggle to find a player at his level for anything less than 60-70 million.

Exactly but you are not replacing just the player of his quality, you are going to replace leadership, the captain and a player that is always available.

We keep talking about culture at the football club, Bruno is there showing it... its not about how much you are paid, its how much you care about the football club.

We keep talking about not wanting mercenaries at the football club, Bruno has proven he isn't one.

It could have been a very easy choice, 15th in the league, everything looks crap, no progress in sight, aged 30, he wants to be here fight for the club... why do fans hate that?

I love Bruno. 100% I’d have taken that Saudi bag if I was him….hes got more morals than me

If he is staying are we then permanently moving Bruno to a deeper midfield role? If Utd secure Mbeumo added to Cunha then you would think they would be the starting inside 10's.

Lack of a progressive passer in deep areas would be an issue otherwise, Ugarte and Mainoo don't have that, Cas is on his last legs.

Reading Romano’s tweet. Seems more like he’s just decided he wants to stay in Europe. If a top European club comes in for him I think his off.

A European team won't pay anything near a fee we'd accept.

Pipe dream maybe, but I hope he gets to lift more silverware at this club. He deserves it.

There will be a lot of spin around this decision. He’s obviously turned down a lot of money to stay, a decision which I’m not sure particularly helps United but a decision we should embrace nonetheless. He wants to be here, always gives his absolute best and he’s obviously a great player. I don’t think he particularly fits what would be a best fit XI, but it’s really on the manager to make that work and leave him out if necessary.

I was initially disappointed because I see it as a hit to our rebuild efforts but ideally he would remain part of the squad and we’d be able to shift out the many other elements who are an actual problem and surplus to requirements.

I am sure there will be many more great Bruno memories to come. And his attitude and leadership will only ever be a benefit to the squad.

Though a Spurs fan, I see a lot of Brentford (live local).

And I'm sure RA sees him replicating his Brentford role on the right of the front three, cutting in onto his left foot, like eg Salah or Saka. Means you've still gotta sign a proper central striker, mind (Wissa does this for Bees)

Meanwhile, for an attacking player who scores and assists so frequently, Mbuemo also tracks back a lot, his workrate is first class. Good pro, too. So assuming he signs, you'll have got yourself a top quality player there - only another 7 or 8 to go! ;)

I like Bruno. He loves the club and if everyone in the squad had his attitude, we'd have a much better team.

But I feel this was an opportunity to reset the direction of the club for the next 5 years and we've passed it up. Fergie always knew when to sell a player, even club legends. Since he's retired, we've been terrible for hanging onto players past their peak on massive wages, and then not being able to give them away towards the end of their contracts.

Where does Bruno fit into the team with Cunha and Mbuemo? He's going to play every available minute under Amorim, so as a midfield 2 with Casemiro, or Ugarte, or Mainoo? Does that fill anyone with confidence for next season?

His fitness is incredible and he's never injured (touch wood), but he's not quick, he's not physically strong and he's not particularly mobile. Can maybe get away with it in a midfield 3 but not a 2, especially as none of our other midfield options are fast or mobile either (maybe Ugarte but is he good enough?)!

So taking the emotion out of it, where does everyone see him playing next season and how do they think this benefits the team if he's shoehorned into a position he's not suited to?

We need a good squad with quality players. Bruno can play in the attacking mid and CM if the game suits it. Time we keep our strong players and add more. Our squad depth should have quality players all over the pitch.

That's the first time I've heard that commentary from Tyler, what a twat, Bruno miskicked it. It was a brilliant pass. He already knew what he was going to do before he received it

He genuinely loves the club. He’s our best player. £100m wouldn’t replace him.

Also, we never actually received an offer from Al Hilal anyway so it’s all moot. Their offer may have in reality been much lower.

He’s won two trophies and reached another two finals in the last three years. Definitely possible he wins more.

The pipe dream is that it would be the league or CL.

He's better than this era of Utd. I absolutely love Bruno. The level of disrespect he gets from a lot of (online) fans is an absolute joke.
