Naughty Dog, as much as I love them, have had some pacing issues in the last few titles (with the exception of Lost Legacy). They need to find a way to evolve their formula. Maybe move away from their two main franchises for a while and do something different.
Agreed. I think they are working on a fresh IP, no?

And is Lost Legacy good? Always thought of trying that as I usually loved the UC series and also Chloe! I feel that should come out on PS+ at this stage though!

I didn't mean happy or anything like that, I have no problem in playing something that has a tragic ending or whatever. But my complain from the first game was the inability to keep each stage fresh, which is important especially in a linear game. After around 70% or so I was just going "ffs not another random house/building with the same fat dudes roaming around!". The story was great no doubt and I'd love to watch it on TV, but it dragged on for sure. As did UC4 which when I played felt like it went on for fecking forever. It's just what has kept me from trying the second one.
I think it took me 3 or 4 goes to get through the first game  always got to the bit after dangling upside down and gave up.

The last time I tried I couldn't put it down and completed it.

I do think tlou 2 was better than the first, didn't quite feel as samey all the way through imo.

It's decent. At the end of the day it's simply more Uncharted, but slightly more open (a bit like Madagascar in U4) and a much shorter experience.

Well i finished it. A great game i hated. basically.

I kind of opted out of most of the choices pretty early in the game, I wasn't really on board with hunting, torturing and murdering all the wolf guys. I dont know how seriously im meant to take the mass murder that occurs as part of the game, like is that gameplay stuff im kind of supposed to overlook for the purpose of story or am i playing rambo with a kill count in the hundreds in the space of a couple of days? The task i was undertaking just felt backwards and pointless pretty early on. The really brutal, violent way it goes about being done feels cruel and distasteful mostly. Then you get to play abbeys section and meet all the nice people you've spent the last few hours violently murdering and talking to them minutes / hours before they die just to really rub in the guilt and regret. Santa Barbara just felt redundant. More punishment for anyone who still liked any of the characters or had any silly notions about some possibly happy ending in a world that grim and broken. Another band of disgusting failures of decency to stab in the face.
If i had any meaningful choice over the course of the story i just would have bailed out and gone home a thousand times. I hated hunting ellie, i flat out put the controller down after breaking her arm and felt rubbish, cutscene took over at the point. Tried the same at the end and got to experience Ellie getting murdered over and over and over until i really beat the hell out of a malnourished half dead skeleton. It just felt completely miserable to play

Still more fun than FIFA though.

it’s a post-apocalyptic lawless world. I’d say quite an accurate interpretation of one.

I enjoyed the game a lot but felt it dragged on a bit in the final 3rd. But story and setting and tone of it was on point I thought

Story was a hot mess. The Tommy heel turn at the end was so weird.

Abby decision at the theater, decision to start killing the wolves etc

Just a complete mess of motivations and made it all so underwhelming.

The ending was so bad as well. Lots of good to great pieces in a pool full of shite unfortunately.

Did you finish it in the end @amolbhatia50k ?
Just finished it.

I enjoyed it a lot for the most part but felt it missed an opportunity to be something special due to some poor choices.

  • I absolutely loved playing the game itself. The combat wasn't complicated but had a lovely weight to it. They basically emulated what Days Gone did so well and it fit perfectly. The exploration parts were also excellent and something I didn't expect. I wish we had a few more sections like Seattle Day 1. Everything didn't have to he as linear as it did from here on.
  • The first section (Ellie on the hunt) was terrific for me. I think they could have done a better job of building her 'wolves killer' arc. But games having killing and all in all this section of game was an absolute joy (despite the misery).
  • The swap at the end of Ellie's section to shift perspective rubbed some people the wrong way but I thought it was an interesting shift in perceptive and Abby's dynamic with her SeaWorld boyfriend and all was well done. But this is also when the game started losing steam. The whole brother and sister storyline was far, far too long with Lev going running back to his Mom being the first 'drag' from a narrative perspective and one that I don't think the game truly recovered from. It was the first time I felt the game beginning to feel like a chore.
  • But even if we look past past that, the moment when the two storylines meet seemed tie stories of the two characters together pretty well with a peak at Ellie back home.
  • However the next chapter of the game was honestly really poor. Abby seeing some hope only to get her face smashed felt excessive. And then of course Ellie being convinced by best friend Tommy to give up the good life and people she presumably loves for another chance at blood, just came across really poorly. And it wasn't helped with the gameplay in this section also being weak ending with what came across a comical fight which served feck all purpose. I mean, she frees Abby and first walks off to her own boat for some reason?! Didn't she she there to kill. Why did she need another memory of Joel to wake herself up?
  • And then the ending was also so.. nothing. There's Ellie having made one of the most bizarre decisions you've seen in gaming now being left witj a guitar and 7 fingers. All this after she knew what Joel did and why people came for him. Doesn't really make any sense and in the last 5 hours I never actually wanted her to get revenge. It felt like a meaningless desire of a complete lunatic.
So yeah, absolutely brilliant third fist section. A slightly lower quality but still strong second section. And a bad final one. I'd give it an 8.5/10 buy it could have been a proper 9.5 or so.

Yeah I'd agree with most of that. Missed opportunity sums it up quite well. Shame because the scene with Elle and Joel in the museum shows they can make some of the best narrative stuff in a game ever but as the ending shows they can also make the worst.

To be honest I really really enjoyed most of it and personally disagree with the dislike for Abbey and the storytelling style. I was mostly just disappointed by that final leg which could have been done so much better.

Yeah I have nothing against Abby but a lot of the storytelling elements disappointed me. At the end of it all Abby was probably the most relatable character. They kinda butchered Tommy and Elle. Joel was done poorly but could have been fixed by placing things in different sequences. The pendejo guy and Asian guy were also decent but their characters deaths didn't carry any weight. Anyways glad you enjoyed it, I definitely think it's a decent game worth playing but not close to the first part. People having it in the top five games of this generation are having a laugh imo.

Just finished it. My word is this a dumb game. Beautiful? Sure... well crafted? Absolutely... But story-telling wise its a bit of miss, and the structure is all over the place.

I still enjoyed it, but I doubt I'll replay it or revere it like I did with the first one

I think I'm a bit less annoyed at it a month after finishing it. The minute to minute gameplay was great, much better than i expected with the previous game being a bit functional rather than strong. Seattle day 1 was a really strong section and i could play that again. I hated the story, i hated the tone of the game. It was too bleak, too emotionally punishing, too violent and brutal a world to spend time in. It felt like the video game equivalent of Hostel or some other torture porn tier horror movie. Maybe thats a bit harsh and over the top I'm just not really sure what the developers were aiming for. I felt miserable and utterly emotionally drained of any attachment to any of the characters and world by the end of the game. I never, ever want to return and see what happens next. Was that the aim?
Like i can take a sad ending and a dark game (and rubbish, tasteless horror movies too) and enjoy them but ... I didn't enjoy this in the slightest

I would agree with this.
I was exhausted at the end of my playthrough, but I imagine that the emotions I was experiencing at the end of the game were intended by the creators.

A large part of me is still very surprised by just how wide ranging the views are on this game, notably the story, characters, and the tone. For me, it was nothing short of a masterpiece. The game broke new ground narratively and took the notion of games to new places. It's an important game.

It's great that you got that out of it to be fair. Maybe my expectations were just too lofty based on the first one... I just found the story, characters, and (mostly) the structure to be far too absurd.

Shame as its something ND usually get spot on in their games.

I jumped back into it. While there were a couple of narrative decisions that I felt made the game drag towards the end, objectively speaking, it's a brilliant game (but slightly flawed). Aside from the graphical fidelity and performances by the cast which you'd expect from a ND game, the combat/stealth loop is so so good and something I didn't expect from them given how generic i find it in their other titles. Then the world is fabulous, every location actually sticks with you. And finally the writing in general is as good as you'll find in gaming - the little conversations between characters.

Yes the game lost me a bit in certain phases but I'd have it among my top 15 of this generation for sure (not sure how high exactly). It does too much too well not to be IMO.

I agree with all of that. I do understand some peoples gripe with the story amd length but seriously, if only all games were made to this standard, life would be great.

Remade, not remastered.

An online multiplayer Last of Us game with new characters has also been announced for next year, which could be interesting.
Hmm, I bought the 1st game twice (ps3 and then ps4). Should I really buy it again?

I'll be buying it day 1. Part 1 with the graphics and gameplay of part 2 is a no brainer.

Playing both games back to back wil be so seamless it'll be fantastic.

Factions 2 I'm very excited for shame it's atleast a year away.

I wonder if the remake will include lots of agendas like turning Joel into Joe the All American Ice Truck Champion, beer swigging, wife beatin' playboy and replace Ellie with Elliephant the All American Ice Truck Champion, beer swigging, elephant-hunter beatin' elephant?

Only slightly on topic, but I am rewatching Critical Role episodes from the beginning and knowing that Pike/Yasha is also Elle is fecking hilarious.

Maybe they’ll reveal Joel to actually be a woman and not a man because you know..

Probably my favourite game ever. Hope we dont have to wait too long for a 3rd
Yeah it's right up there aint it? I've played some great games over recent years but I gotta be honest as a complete package this has been better than GoWR, Horizon FW, Returnal, etc... Wil move on to NG+ soon.

Nice!! How do you feel emotionally? My first run thru was a blur. After that particular major scene I was in a state and just plowed through. The ending...reflected how I felt ...weary and worn and just so sad. I played it again immediately to pay more attention and it just hit me as this deep tragic yet incredible story.

Yeah The Last Of Us for me is easily the best Sony Franchise.

Was disappointed with Ragnarok in that the storyline was so safe. Seemed like they didn't want to piss anyone off.

Hopefully we get Part 3 by 2027 to allow for the HBO shows to also adapt it.

Finished TLOU remake a couple of weeks ago. Bought TLOU2.

Up to the part where Abbey & Scar are going to the hospital for the other Scar
.

I love it. I am feeling a bit fatigued with the mechanics and everything having played about 35 hours of both games in the last month. Kind of don’t want it to end though as only back in to gaming after a few years off and no idea what to play next. Recently finished Ragnarok.

Have you tried the Resident Evil Series? A lot to dig into their between the originals and remakes.
