Should have figured out a way to get AWB off the pitch. Honestly, I’d have just put Rashford there. There was zero defensive work to do in the last 15 minutes and it allowed them to defend super narrow. Having an attacking threat there would have created more space for Bruno/Pogba.

It’s a bit of a pisstake, it was accepted at the back end of last season because of the thinking that Ole didn’t rate his options. But when so many players are putting in disgraceful performances and you have VdB and Mata waiting for a chance it’s not acceptable anymore.

I think he's gotten used to us coming from behind so he just leaves them on and gives the time.

We were doing well at the time so all criticism of OGS was invalid, immoral and illegal.
Made changes at HT Vs West Ham and Southampton and we weren’t playing as bad as we were tonight. I get we have won 7 league games from behind, but that performance from Martial was the worst performance I’ve seen since Taibi vs Southampton, and needed to be subbed at HT

As I said in his performance thread, I just feel like he doesn't trust the bench which is a very wrong mindset if true.

He seems to put his full trust in certain players no matter what, while being afraid of changing things or putting on players that he believes will damage more than benefit. I get this vibe from Ole consistently, and if true then this mindset is terrible.

It's like he trusts Martial, Bruno and Rashford to score goals more than Greenwood for example, no matter what they're doing on the pitch.

Trust your bench more, what's the problem ? You're losing, the subs aren't going to feck things up, either it stays the same or they'll improve you. Sub the players who are having a crap game, what's the problem in this ? What did Martial do to think he'll nick it tonight and not Greenwood ?

Ultimately Ole really needs to work on his subs management because it's bad.

As bad as our players were, this one is also on Ole. It was obvious after 45 minutes that it wasn't going to work. Sure you can give them some instructions in half time and give them another 15 minutes after the break to show it but then it's time to make a sub. 60 minutes of football and barely any chances created, defensively a shambles and no work rate at all. Should have subbed Martial, Matic and Telles much sooner. Cavani, Fred and Shaw could have won us this game.

It's a flaw in his management. Cavani should've come on ten minutes before he actually did. He was warming up like a mad man.

Yeah he did it at Southampton but yet this time pissed around for another 20 minutes and Eddy was furious

Yes, subs were definitely too late. Cavani should have either been on at HT or, at latest, after 10 minutes of the second half if we were still losing. Subs 2 and 3 should have been made instantly we conceded the 2nd goal and, arguably, at least one of them should have been on earlier. Poor game management in this one.

One thing ole definitely hasnt learnt from fergie is how to chase a game you are losing with 30mins to go. Fergie would put out as many of his goalscorers onto the pitch as possible. Sacrifice a defender, throw the kitchen sink at the opposition goal. Ole doesnt seem to to either grasp this notion or have any faith in what he has on the bench.

Still dont get why he wanted Matic to stay in that position. Hes way too slow in the build up phase, and when Sheffield didnt want/need to attack, what did he really offer as DM. Should had subbed to get a more attacking style way sooner. Mourinho did it once, just admit this was a tactical foul and make the change even after 20 minutes. Martial will forever be a mysterious how he managed to stay on the pitch, what an awfull and lazy performance.

Yeah, we should have basically been playing this formation from around the 70th minute:

AWB
Maguire
Matic
shaw

DVB

Pogba
Bruno

Greenwood
Cavani
Rashford

I dont get why he starts Martial at the moment especially at home. Hes in horrendous form. If your gonna use him then use him at away games preferably as a 2nd half sub so he can use his race against tired legs. Same could be said of rashford.

Cavani should start every game as no9, hes a proper centre forward and we instantly look so much better when he plays.

Enough has been said about VDB. It obvious Ole doesnt really rate him and i guess didnt want to sign him. Bringing a player of his quality and ability on at the 83min of a game we are chasing. Poor mgmt by Ole.

The most worrying thing about all this, is that he hasn't improved in this area since he's got here, he's made similar mistakes over and over and hasn't seemingly learned from them to adjust his in game management better at all, i feel like every match we're left scratching our heads wondering why subs have come on far too late or not at all.

Sevilla in the Semi final of the Europa, we didn't see Mata and co until about the 83rd minute.

Just the same wave of poor attack, over and over again. Honestly Sevilla couldn't believe how easy they actually had it.

McTominay basically had to collapse before Ole relented & made the change.

It’s not like it was even close to half time. Made the right call to go more attacking though.

Could have conceded a goal to Pepe or Partey because of not making the sub. Really poor reaction on the bench.

McTominay had to collapse before being subbed. Rashford shitting all over every attack and been brutal quite a few times this season and never gets hooked. This isn't why Ole will never be a top manager. In game management is awful

Watch him make 2 changes at 80 mins. Dvb and greenwood.

Greenwood should have been on at 60mins for rashford

This is why he will never be a top class manager. Tactically inept - never proactive, always reactive. He's lucky these players have dragged him to these lofty heights.

Infuriating. For a manager who was so devastating off the bench in his playing days, he had absolutely no clue what to do when his own team needs one.

Greenwood should've come on earlier and Poor Donny again not getting a look in.
