i remember exactly the feeling i felt after Dillashaw last fight, and that's why i was confident on him having a chance tonight (despite Rogan saying he miracly explode to his full potential on this fight xd... i remember he was just as great that time)

what a victory though, he made it looked way too easy

Rogan was so fecking annoying throughout the main event, almost to a point of ruining it. Went way overboard at the end as if we'd just seen Gandhi beat up Arnie in a legit fight.

Cormier basically mauled Henderson too to nobodies surprise, why they even made that match in the fight place I'll never know. For me it's a matter of time before Jones loses the title. If Gustafsson doesn't get it done next it'll be Cormier.

Cormier doing what pretty much everyone expected!! If you backed Hendo you crazy!!!!

DC vs Jones for New Years from the looks of it now!! Man that is going to be one helluva fight!!!

TJ with a huge upset, wow! I for one did not expect that at all! Not to be that dominant anyway that's for sure

Got to get through Gustafsson first.

What a show.

Lawlor looks ready for an immediate title shot

I'm finally sold on DC

And yes rogan exaggerates at times, but feck me that was an amazing performance and maybe one of the best I have seen too from TJ

Agreed. It was quite an unexpected master class. One of the most inspiring efforts the MMA has seen.

Absolutely amazing performance by Dillashaw, didn't think it was possible to do that to Barao. He was able to keep his hands low to deal with the kicks and had the foot speed and head speed to dodge Barao's punching attacks without needing his hands.

Only watched this last night but the whole fight turned on one punch IMO. Barao was never the same after the knock-down in the first round. He looked concussed from then on, a shadow of his usual self. Probably can't remember anything past the first few minutes of the fight.

Not to take away from a brilliant performance by Dillishaw but the main reason he was so dominant was landing that one big punch, rather than 5 rounds of superior skills. IMHO anyway.

He was owning him even before he knocked him down. I agree it affected him though. But Barao looked rattled from the opening secounds

That's true. I just think the way he kicked his arse for 5 rounds was more down to Barao's head being scrambled than the mismatch in ability that you would have to have assumed it was, without that first round knock-down. It was an absolutely savage punch. No idea how he wasn't knocked spark out.

Didn't Barao basically leave Faber unable to walk with a constant barrage of kicks? Strange he didn't utilise them more at the start of the fight. I heard his round screaming at him after the 2nd or 3rd round to use his front kick more.

I doubt he could remember his own name for more than a few seconds at a time, never mind instructions from his corner!

Noticed the attendance was a bit low for this one, 11,036 in the MGM Grand which can hold 16,800 according to wiki (and that seems to be without the chairs the UFC puts down on the floor).

You have to go back to the first two UFC events ever held in the MGM Grand (and 2002) to find a lower attendance for a UFC event in that stadium.

11,036 - UFC 173: Barao vs. Dillashaw (2014)

15,650 - UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva 2 (2013)
14,856 - UFC 167: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks

Dillashaw's speed really unsettled Barao all fight; he couldn't set himself to plant his feet and follow through and that completely knocked him out of stride. Dillashaw also mixed things up so well that Barao spent a lot of the time he'd usually have attacking, defending; nearly all of the opening exchanges saw Dillashaw come out on top and it set the tone for the whole fight, imo.

It was a masterful performance, especially when you consider he did it to a champion who had been at the top for so long.

Went back and watched UFC 1-5 recently, on 6 right now. Really fascinating to see how things were back then, it's like another universe.

Just saw a moment though I wanted to share with you. For those who have seen 1-5 you'll know Pat Smith (a boxer), who lost to Shamrock at UFC 1 to a heel hook right out of the WWF.

Smith talked about his respect for grappling after that and went on a mission to learn the ground game.

Well, here I am on 6 (2 1/2 years later) and Patrick Smith is fighting Rudyard Moncayo where he passes the guard! The first time a boxer passes the guard in the UFC. Then he finishes with a choke. The beginning of the end for the complete domination of the grapplers.

I think Barao was worried and put off from the very start due to his movement, similar to BJ Penn vs Frankie Edgar he just had no answer, although TJ did far more damage to Barao than Frankie did to Penn

Surprise sur-fecking-prise, Wanderlai out of the fight with Sonnen. Pretty much spot on as Sonnen said all along. Apparently refused to turn up to the license agreement showing yet again what a twat he is.

Belfort in to face Sonnen in his place, no official announcement yet.

Yea, Belfort vs Sonnen at 205...for a title shot at 185.

Dafuq? Also Wanderlei didn't get a license but they're banking on Belfort getting a license from the Nevada commission even after that whole drug test controversy? And it must surely be guaranteed otherwise why even announce the fight? Messed up.

The low numbers were probably down to the lack of name recognition for the main fight. The strip was quite crowded this weekend and we also got treated to the Mayweather - T.I. handbags in a local Fat Burger.

The two main fights were odds on blowouts as well.

It must be the PPV numbers that have gone up, because despite this supposed explosion in interest for the UFC the actual fights don't sell any more tickets than they did 12 years ago.

Depends on where the fights are held, headliners etc. A GSP fight in Canada had something like 50,000 in attendance and you can be sure no event 12 years ago would have got anywhere near that, in any place.

fek i missed this... gonna wait for the rip

ps. the brazilian event is next
Yeah read about this earlier, sounds like Jones is being ridiculous and yet again giving people even more reason to dislike him.

It's quite a simple setup really. Gustafsson is the number one contender, the guy that a lot of people argue beat Jones in their first fight. Cormier is waiting in the background and can either quite easily wait for whoever win's that fight or even take another fight in the meantime (scenario two IMO). Instead of going down the simple route, Jones seems to want to feck everything up and act like Gustafsson isn't next in line.

Gustafsson shouldn't have to wait for anybody or have another fight before getting the title shot. For me he beat Jones in the first fight and personally I was making a case for an immediate rematch. Instead Jones fought Glover and he took on Manuwaw who was undefeated and tore through him. Now there's no reason what so ever Gustafsson shouldn't be fighting Jones for the title.

I think Cormier is the bigger threat. Gustafsson started strong but I thought he clearly lost round 4 & 5. Seeing Jones get tagged was a bit shocking, I think it made it seem like Gus was doing better than he really was.

Cormier looks capable of bullying Jones into a decision victory by staying on top of him.
