Strikeforce signed Valentijn Overeem and Kharitonov. Hopefully Sergei can get into shape and form. If he just worked for it he could be a top class fighter, like Aleks.

Hopefully we might see Kharitonov vs A. Overeem III in the future. Anytime I hear people saying Overeem is the man to beat Fedor I think back to him running away from Sergei and getting knocked out :D But since they're 1-1 I suppose that fight's quite likely if Kharitonov puts the effort in.

Check Chuck out! Back out of semi-retirement I had him down as a definite "no chance" for his next fight. That is until I saw how he is looking right now
He looks to be in better shape than he was 10 year ago. Look at 2:40, where has his beer belly gone? Can he pull it off and work his way back to the title?

Fighting for survival in the UFC, probably his last fight if he looses. I don't know, hopefully it's all clean on Chuck's part.

I think it will be clean, as in no roids if that is what you meant? He has been on that Dancing with the Stars TV programme and I am guessing that is where his excess fat went prior to getting back into full time training.
I was never a big fan of Chuck's (although I have nothing against him). Back when he was at his theoretical best I was watching a lot of Pride, some of the light-heavyweights over there at the time just looked better/sharper. Even when he went over to Japan for his Pride début he failed to impress. When he was holding the UFC title I would have put money on at least 3 of Prides finest having being able to rip him apart had they have been given the chance. That always made me feel he was something of a paper champion. He was a good fighter yes but never great.
He does look like he is in great shape though and maybe he has found a hunger to win during his break. It will be an interesting fight.

Here he is back in 2003. He was so over hyped for this fight. Most of the UFC fans at that time expected him to go over to Japan and clean up. How wrong. Rampage put the hurt on him.

I think Franklin will keep his distance and take a decision

For some reason I was convinced Florian vs Maynard was happening tonight and I was looking forward to it. But it's actually in August :(

Mainly looking forward to Barry vs Crocop. Hopefully Crocop can get back on track but I can see Barry beating him. Would be sad, although Barry is a funny guy and it wouldn't be tragic if he won

Guess not. Condit wins with 9 seconds or so to go. Felt Macdonald was still intelligently defending himself, so a bit of a duff one. But Condit gets the win anyway. Macdonald was still impressive for 2 rounds.

Condit did really well to come back that third round. Perhaps a little harsh on MacDonald to have it stopped so close to the end, but Condit did so much damage to him that round I got no problem with him taking the win despite losing the first two rounds.

Great performance from Kampmann just now, wasn't expecting that

Rothwell - Yvel was a decent fight but both gassed pretty hard

Yeah, I agree with that. It was some nasty damage to his orbital. Its just his hands were still moving to intelligently defend himself from the strikes, so to me thats a bit premature to stop it. Rothwell was in a similar position against Yvel a while ago and it wasnt stopped.

Kampmann looked great, and so did Evan Dunham beating Tyson Griffin with ease in the prelims if you saw them. I only saw that one, and he was all over him.

Hoping Barry destroys Kro Cop now. Doubt it'll happen but I do think he might get the win.

Lavigne wasn't going to stop the Rothwell fight after a terrible decision he'd made earlier in the night for the Danzig-Wimen fight (Stopped the fight thinking Danzig was passed out from a RNC when he clearly wasn't).

Crocop beats Barry :D Good stuff

Hmm, I thought he did the Macdonald and Condit fight too? Maybe not, could be wrong. But that was imo stopped early too.

Time to continue my duff picks. I slightly prefer Franklin as a fighter but I feel Chuck is likely the victor tonight. Tbh I'll be happy either way.

I think it was stopped early too, but the shape MacDonald was in the number of shots he was taking I don't think it was that surprising the ref stepped in

I reckon Franklin will take this fight by decision but would prefer to see a dominating performance from Liddell

Cracking event I thought. Happy for Cro Cop.

Why is everyone so sure that is it for Chuck? He was looking good, the finish came out of nowhere pretty much.

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
Because that wouldn't have knocked him out before. And because Dana said so.
Exactly. His punch resistance is shot. Gutted for him as he was looking good last night until the KO. Good fight though and big balls by Franklin to keep going with the broken arm.

Very good event overall. Rothwell-Yvel was the only dull fight imo. The Crocop fight was class. Highly unlikely he can make a run for the title at this stage but I'd love to see him in wth Velasquez or Dos Santos.

He fought Dos Santos a few months ago and got destroyed

Fedor's up this weekend, can't wait. Werdum is looking in good shape, and I've gotten a lot more nervous about the fight as it's gotten nearer. Just hoping Fedor can smash through him and get some payback for Aleks.

Apparently Overeem will be there to call Fedor out after the fight :D

Good stuff from Chris Leben stepping up to replace Wand on short notice for UFC 116, considering he just fought last weekend. It should actually be a quality fight between him and Akiyama. Then if Carwin KO's Lesnar this could be a pretty wanktastic couple of weeks.

Imagine if Lesnar lost to Carwin and Fedor lost to Werdum though. Would shake things up a bit

I expect that neither will happen. Although not many like Brock, I expect him to shoot early and spend most of the fight on top of Carwin, eventually winning from G&P.

I've not seen that much of Fedor with my MMA experience only going back about 4 years and mainly being restricted to UFC but from what I have seen, I'd expect Fedor to win comfortably.

And Jardine was cut today following his loss to Hamill. A bit of a shame considering he always puts on a good fight.

Considering Brock's been subbed by Mir I'd definitely give Werdum a chance against him. No matter how much his stock fell after JDS, Werdum is the top BJJ specialist in the division and if he's in shape and focused he's a dangerous opponent.

If Werdum can take Fedor to the ground he could definitely beat him. Could be Fedor knocks him out first round, but then Fedor has a long history of fighting to his opponent's strengths. Wouldn't surprise me if Fedor were to take it to the ground.

His recent record has been pretty awful though - 6 losses in his last 8 fights I think, and his two wins were close decisions. Doesn't have a particularly crowd-pleasing style either. At this stage its probably better for him to leave UFC for a bit, maybe get a few wins under his belt in Strikeforce or something. Dana's left the door open for him to return in the future I think, but at the moment he's going absolutely nowhere in that divison.

Well I disagree. Most watchers respect him and like the fact he always brings it despite a poor record over the past 3 years or so. I've rarely seen a bad word said about him. As you say he'll probably go to Strikeforce.
