Proudly following the famous Liverpool boom-bust cycle we are once again by far the best, most attractive and dynamic (heh) team at the tournament. We have all the best players, all the best tactics and it's simply a case of driving to Germany and collecting the cup. @do.ob assures me it's not a long drive.

Our amazing squad (I have just copy pasted the England post, because feck it):

First of all these players are injured
Marten de Roon (Twitter goat)
Mats Wieffer (who?)
Joshua Zirkzee (new Gullit)
Quilindschy Hartman (Malacia's far better successor)

GOALKEEPERS
Verbruggen
Flekken
Bijlow
Olij

RIGHT-BACKS
Dumfries
Frimpong

CENTRE-BACKS
Van Dyke
Aké
De Ligt
Van der Ven
Geertruida
De Vrij

LEFT-BACKS
Blind (has seemingly not yet retired)
Maatsen

CENTRAL DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDERS (specifying this further seems complicated)
Frenkie de Jong (why did I suddenly include a first name?)
Gravenberch
Wijnaldum (hah)
Koopmeiners
De Roon (wait, he's injured, but still going?)
Schouten
Veerman
Simons
Reijnders
Timber (Quinten, not the arse cnut)

ATTACKERS
Bergwijn (ha)
Weghorst (haha)
Brian Brobbey (hahaha)
Malen
Gakpo
Memphis

Now I know what you're thinking. This squad looks a bit cack, but what do you know, you don't even rate Arne Slot on here.

When's the final and does anyone have tickets?

My ideal 11:

Verbruggen
Dumfries
De Vrij/ De Ligt
Van Dijk
Ake
Maatsen

De Jong
Schouten
Koopmeiners

Gakpo
Memphis

Or something, I've not given this much thought.

Some very good centre backs there (i always seem to be saying that lately about the Dutch). Some good full backs too.

Looks like you lot are going with five at the back considering neither Frimpong or Dumfries can particularly play in a back four?

Does the crime of playing anything other than 4-3-3 with Holland still carry the death penalty?

Dumfries seems to always be a good Fantasy pick but do you think he will start with both him and Frimpong or just one?

Or something, I've not given this much thought.

I see you've gone with the 5-3-3 formation. Will give you a massive advantage over most opponents!

As I said, we have all the best tactics.

We've been playing 5-3-2 for quite a while now. Pretty much the whole country hates it though.

I'd also secretly prefer 4-3-3, but Koeman won't do it and I suppose we do have rather good wing backs in Frimpong/ Dumfries and Maatsen.

Ake plays on the left. I’d certainly have Frimpong, Reijnders, Bijlow in the starting 11, and De Roon ahead of Schouten if fit.

Cheers. Strangely this post reminded me of the german song “Ohne Holland, fahren wir zu WM.”

Absolute banger.

I dunno, I love De Roon as a person, but he's always been crap in Oranje. I totally forgot about Reijnders, he could get in instead of Koopmeijners.

As for Bijlow, he's never fit, I'm a bit fed up with him.

Bloody hell. This must be the worst Holland team in last 30 years.
Btw, i loved Gullit as a player so tell me more about "new Gullit". Do you have new Rijkaard as well? :wenger:

New Rijkaard is Gravenberch I believe.

Zirkzee is an elegant serie A striker who has done quite well at Bologna. I never watch serie A however and I'm not sure how good he really is, but he has similar hair to Gullit. Elegant Serie A striker sounds more like Van Basten maybe...

This team is a bit better than the one in Qatar I think. We have an abundance of great defenders. Reijnders is suddenly a pivotal Milan player and Xavi Simons is a very exciting talent. Not having a great striker or attacking midfielder hurts us though. We have above average wingers in Gakpo and Malen, but they're no Arjen Robben. And all our keepers are eh, but who cares about keepers.

So, Rijkaard from AliExpress. :)

Perfect line up, Koeman will never do it.

Isn't Van Dijk LCV though? Van Dijk with De Vrij is my preferred back 2. Though I guess it will be a back 3 and he'll start Geertruida for some reason. And I'm afraid Wijnaldum is starting in midfield.

Great in defence, ok in midfield but absolute pig sh%t up front. The netherlands could always be relied on for producing some of the best attackers of any generation. What’s happened there? Any new strikers coming through in the RVN or Van Basten mould?

Zirkzee seems very good, but he's injured. And he's no Van Basten or Van Nistelrooy (who's no Van Basten himself honestly). Gakpo and Malen aren't THAT pigshitty. They're both ok attackers playing on a very high level. Though compared to Arjen Robben it's hard to get excited.

Xavi Simons is a bit of a weird case. He's fantastic at club level, especially for his young age. A truly exciting talent. But in Oranje he's been the worst man on the pitch in almost all of his 12 appearances. It's like he's trying too hard or something.

Surely you have to fit in Frimpong there somewhere, one of the best players in Europe this season? Dumfries is good though too.

No drive ever feels short once you notice some yellow license plates around you.

Also what's up with so many players being recent/current Bundesliga players. At this rate Ajax are going to be bought by RB and every remotely football related office will have a picture of Ralf Rangnick on the wall.

He deserves a shot yes, but Koeman is very conservative. Dumfries has probably been the most important Oranje player of the last 5 years though. He somehow always steps up in big games.

Squad looks shite on paper but Netherlands always somehow make it to the semis with these subpar teams.

Also they got unlucky to have all their group stage games in North/East Germany, if they were in another group they'd play all their matches in North Rheine Westphalia and could simply reside at home. Now they have to set camp in Wolfsburg, poor guys.

When did we make a Euros semi with a shit team? Last one we made was 20 years ago anyway. The 2014 world cup semi squad wasn't amazing, but still had Robben, Van Persie, Sneijder, Vd Vaart and the mighty Dirk Kuyt.

We've been shite after, but made no semi's :(

Where is Malacia?
Hidden somewhere in Machester it seems?

The squad of the Netherlands is pretty good and really interesting (Of course they have a poor coach in Koeman).......but the non-inclusion of Zirkzee is pretty weird.......J.Timber, Botman and Wieffer are injured but that shows they have a few more good players in their whole squad (Hato should have a big future too).

First Team
Flekken - De Ligt, Van Dijk, Ake - Frimpong, Koopmeiners, De Jong, Maatsen - Malen, Brobbey, Xavi

Second Team
Verbruggen - Geertruida, De Vrij, Van de Ven - Dumfries, X, Reijnders, Blind - Bergwijn, Memphis, Gakpo

X = Wijnaldum, Schouten, Veerman, Gravenberch or De Roon

I think your second team is very close to what Koeman will do. Just Van Dijk and Ake instead of Van de Ven en De Vrij. There is no way Koeman starts anyone but Memphis if he's fit. And if he's not fit he'll start Weghorst.

Exactly. You could play him earlier right back, right mid. You could stick him up front even, he's absolutely brilliant

If Portugal don't win the EURO, I hope The Netherlands goes all the way and win the trophy. Always have been my favorite National Team, because of those stunning orange kits.
