A CNN journalist is reporting that he was told the decision to fire Comey came first and they worked on their reasoning afterwards.
No surprise if true but it shows how rushed and botched a job it had been if they cite his handling of Hillary emails a year ago, something Trump has praised many times since.
The rush could be explained by a rumour circulating that Comey submitted evidence yesterday to fast track paperwork to bring charges.
EDIT - his sacking won't stop the motion of that paperwork and the evidence being in the hands of the judges who approve it.

Rumours circulating that Comey had placed 50 passport and financial holds on individuals suspected to be involved in the Russia thing, and Rex Tillerson has lifted them. Could be bullshit, but worth keeping an eye on.

Wow....Comey was supposed to testify on Thursday. Warner still wants him to testify.
Goodness only knows, but at least these days it's not hard to backup files. Not like during Watergate where Nixon just had the room full of evidence locked up.
I just hope Comey doesn't take any small plane journeys or long drives in the country before his testimony on Thursday.
If there was any doubt that Trump was innocent of all of the charges then he just obliterated it with a bazooka.
