So, what is it? I mean, okay, sure, I get what it is...But still.. What actually IS it?

Obviously it's a Joker movie, but without Batman somehow? And set in the 70s, and inspired by King of Comedy, but in a world where Batman's dad is still alive, and also an SNLish Trump parody? From the director of The Hangover!? Again, like, what IS this?

They're really leaning into the serious Heath Ledger look, but then his name is apparently 'Arthur Fleck'. A.Fleck. You know, Affleck? I mean, whats that about? What are they trying to say? Is that a joke? What on earth is this film!? Why is this film!? But also, isn't it kinda really cool? I mean, Phoenix is a good choice, right? But...What is this?

WHAT IS THIS!!!??

Discuss.

But now it's sort of an indie film! You know, pretty much the only other genre of film still going that isn't huge comic book blockbusters, because they're cheap, and the middle has dropped out of the industry entirely.... They're doing them now too! Isn't that cool? I mean, isn't it? I don't know. I literally still don't understand what the feck this thing is....

And also, is it almost kind of worth enduring the wholesale comic book monopoly of the film industry, if we can be sure it will really annoy the kind of neckbearded Youtube Rick & Morty enthusiasts who'll be super angry that its not entirely 100% comic accurate, or has too many women in it or something. And in the current firely hellscape of 2018, isn't that kind of fleeting petty schadenfreude the best we can hope for these days?

I mean, if even one Twitter user with an Anime avatar is even slightly put out by the fact his nose is painted or his shoes are the wrong colour, then I'd be almost willing to lie down and accept the dystopian commercialised dumbing down of the entire Western cultural epoc.

They’re making a Sonic movie too. Jim
Carey’s in it. That’s a real thing that’s happening.

Global Warming’s too slow if anything.

Would rather see a Joker film for the Joker we all know but this is part of DC Dark which isn’t associated with the other films and is supposed to be a lot more adult themed so most will probably be an 18 certificate. Didn’t know Batman’s dad was supposed to be in it because that means
It’s on a different earth or flashpoint has happened where he survived and became Batman who is very different, uses guns and kills people but still as Batman

There's also another Joker movie with Jared Leto currently in development. Just to add to the crazy.

Aye he was pure shite, I wasn't too bothered by the image they went for as I thought Leto would be able to do it well but then, sheesh, I've got mates who aren't remotely interested in comic book shite who could do a better Joker than what he did.

Written and directed by the guy who made The Hangover but produced by Martin Scorcese I think.
What an interesting duo. Like having Cristiano Ronaldo and Omar Bogle upfront.

We've had 10 years of being over saturated with shared universes to the point where a stand alone film seems like a novel idea, the circle is complete.

To be fair, he looks half-decent as the Joker.. could be an interesting project. I wish Margot Robbie and Leto would just piss off though, their characters and performances were awful.

If this does well, and Matt Reeves Batman is actually decent. DC might as well reboot the DCEU and use these as the foundation of the new cinematic universe

1000 years from now generations must wonder if Batman is the greatest epic in human civilisation that it has received such constant artistic rendering.

I'm very sceptical. The Joker is a great character but can you base a movie around him? What is the story rumored to be about?

They’re comparing the script to De Niro’s Taxi Driver. I guess it’s the slow transformation from a stand up comedian to a psychopath.

I’m looking forward to this more so than any other film. Joaquin Phoenix is literally my number one pick for Joker.

The Reeves film has been ditched now hasn't it?

As for this, certainly interesting and he's a great actor so I will watch it.

Phoenix will probably be quite good in the lead role and the film itself will be a lot less interesting and provocative than it probably wants to be. I imagine we'll get some tragic Joker backstory that attempts to explain his insanity and a mildly shocking-but-not-that-shocking scene where he does something bad that ensures he's still seen as a villain.

They probably gonna try make Joker very sympathetic.

Matt Reeves Batman - I thought that was still going ahead and Jon Hamm wants to play the character now?

And its all connected? Apparently. But then again, DC been a mess so they probably just putting stuff out there and hoping to find a connect later on.

I don't know really. I read the other day that's still on. But maybe I'm reading old news. If this becomes successful, it will need a Batman movie though

Seconded. She has to stay.

I’m a little meh on the idea of Phoenix, I find him quite bland, I should actually probably put him forward in that irrational hatred thread.

There are so many good Joker stories to tell but the obvious one for dark content would be The Killing Joke. Play out that scene that is so controversial. Heck the stuff that teen shows put forward now it wouldn’t be anything out of the norm. It’s a story that needs set up tho and the characters to have been introduced over time, but that would show a very sinister version of the Joker.

You mean...*drum roll*...he's an impractical Joker?

I do apologise, folks.
