Was having a discussion with the lads at work about some random footballing questions you know like whos the best player you've ever seen, best striker, best GK etc

All those I was pretty much decisive about but the one question I found the hardest to answer was who to pick between Totti and Del Piero. Both absolutely brilliant players and have impacted Serie A in their own way and its so hard to decide between them but I am slightly leaning towards Totti.

Who would you guys pick?

Del Piero edges it for me, he was a key part of a successful Juve period as the man that made them tick up top.

Del Piero's pre-injury peak was in my opinion better than Totti's peak. From 1999 onwards Totti was the better player though.

Yeah, that's my take on it. From around 1995-1998 Del Piero had the mobility and change of pace to hurt players in a way that Totti never quite had. At the time only Ronaldo was a cut above. That said, Totti trumps him for technique (just) and longevity and was generally under-rated until the late 2000s.

Del Piero on top form was something else IMO.

I think it's important we mentioned that for most of his career at Juve, Del Piero played with a better calibre of player than Totti.

Personally, I don't think there's much difference between the two. Both are quality and were the linchpin of their teams for many seasons. The only reason I'd opt for Del Piero is because I really loved that Juve team of the late 90s.

Oh, this is a close one. Both absolute joy to watch. I voted for Totti, but that's just personal preference. I could perfectly understand those voting the other way. Del Piero won more, performed consistently and brilliantly at the biggest stages and was a rare breed of technically flawless but also ruthless goalscorer. Totti, however, is a more complete player, with no worse goalscoring ability and even better technique, physicality, vision and tactical intelligence and flexibility.

Here's a little treat:

That certainly was an absolute treat, thanks!

Del Piero, grew up watching this guy playing in those great Juventus sides in the 90's and one of the players i really wanted us to sign, also a very likeable guy.

Del Piero was one of my favourite players when I was growing up so I'd have to say him.

I was a bit of a Del Piero fan-boy growing up, he was so cool and I wanted to be him. I still think Totti shades it overall though, despite my man-crush.

Totti. Serie A top scorer in the 'new era', second top scorer of all time, without being by classical terms a striker. Brilliant passing and shooting technique, leadership, and longevity.

Its also a plus that he stayed at a club like Roma, when he could've gone practically anywhere in his prime.

Having said all that, del piero isnt too far behind.

I liked Del Piero more, but he was simply not as gifted, nor was his peak anywhere near as long, as Totti's.

He was a star man in vastly superior sides though.

Totti. Close one but it is hard to find a good goalscoring forward with the outrageous technique and vision of a No 10. Some of his passing was just . He was also a real leader and a truly inspirational player.

Not that Del Piero was a mug in these aspects but I'll give Totti the edge overall.

Two players I love and admire.

Very difficult to choose between them, almost impossible...

Del Piero has an affiliation and respect for Manchester United, I always liked that about him...

But, Totti is a one club man, so think that edges it for me.

I voted for ADP but that's obvious bias here.

Ability wise it's a tough choice but Del Piero didn't go around spitting on people or being a dirty tackler.

I always feel like I have to give the edge to Totti, even though Del Piero is my favourite of the two.

Before Del Piero`s injury he looked like he was going to be better than Baggio, then he lost a yard or two of pace but still was one of the best Italian players of his generation. He and Totti are pretty much equal but Del Piero has won much more (but playing for Juventus almost guarantees you that in Italy!)
