Need to get in Pochettino ffs. It seems harder to attract top talent under this administration. Heck, this jade isn’t even a top talent.
 I love when people post without knowing anything about the topic at hand.

I'm fairly sure he was the one who broke the news that we were willing to pay £25m for Bellingham. He has been quite hit and miss recently, but imo he's one of the more reliable journos.
I'll have to take your word on that. He's always on the money when it comes to mendes related stories, otherwise he's all over the place.

That's the ace up our sleeve? Christ, we should be offering him a chance to win silverware - 75% of premier league teams could offer him playing time, and a few German teams too, along with CL football and a possibility of silverware.

We're in serious trouble if we can only offer players a chance to play football...

Barca get an injury to Suarez and then snatch for Valencia's best striker; we get an injury to Rashford and we're looking to bring in Leicester reject, Slimani.
You left out the bit that they want to pay 60 m whereas we may well be after a short term loan with a longer term target in summer

Longer term forward target? But isn't this transfer only a means to cover for Rashford? When he's back, that necessity won't be there, unless you're talking about a RW purchase, but then this limits Greenwood's minutes as he's competition for James on the right atm.

Anything new on Marcos Llorente? We were supposed to be pursuing a loan deal for him weeks back.

This looks like finally the end of the saga for this window and seems to be heading for the same result as last summer, god knows where our creativity is going to come from until Pogba comes back but obviously Utd aren't bothered about that at all.

Full summary of Antero Henrique’s time as Sporting Director for PSG (Source: PSG's Reddit)

• since signing with the Club on May 2017 (during which he faced legal problems in Portugal that slowed down his signing), his predecessor Kluivert commented: “he knows nothing about football, it’s business”

• just as he arrived, the first he tried was replacing Unai Emery with Jorge Jesus (ex-Sporting manager)

• back when we were looking for a Centerback, we were offered Pepe by Jorge Mendes, everything was going well, until contract duration was brought up. Mendes wanted 2 years, Antero rejected that and offered 1 option of 1 year extension (same as Buffon currently), both stood their grounds and Pepe signed for Besiktas a couple hours later

• Thiago Motta’s contract was ending and we were without a 6, Antero negotiated with Canovi (his agent) and they reached an agreement, suddenly the verbal agreements turned out to be very different to those on the written contract, which ended in Thiago Motta remaining a free agent for 4 days

• after being offended by Mendes sending Pepe to Besiktas, Antero put an end to the very advanced negotiations with James Rodriguez. he was loaned to Bayern with a €40M purchase option (we could’ve had the same deal and what a signing this could’ve been for our midfield, perfect Pastore replacement)

• even with the 2017 transfer window being a general success,we can see the failure in negotiations for Fabinho and the lack of a CDM replacement for Motta

• off to the Winter 2018, Antero harassed Lucas Moura in order to force him to leave the club, including using some very racist remarks such as “hey little n word, when will you leave the club?” He even arranged for Kia Joorabchian to ship him off to China, which Lucas firmly refused as he wanted to stay in Europe, he signed for Spurs

• after the poaching of some youth players (Like Zagadou), Antero and Luis Fernandez offered at least 24 professional contracts to our youth players, which a dozen players signed in May and August

• Emery contract as manager was ending, 4 managers were considered:

  • Neymar and his agents’ pick: Luis Enrique
  • The owners’ choice: Pochettino or Tuchel
  • Antero’s Choice: Sergio Conceicao!
• behind the scenes, Rabiot’s extension was already a problem, one that Henrique didn’t take seriously, Rabiot demanded €7.2M and the guarantee of PSG signing a CDM, we’re still waiting for the latter

• From the end of May until the middle of August, Antero made multiple meetings with Kanté’s representatives while trying everything including threats to sign him. The little bugger stood firm as he wanted to stay with Chelsea, and during that wasted period we missed out on signing one of William Carvalho, Steven Nzonzi, Arturo Vidal or Radja Nainggolan.

• Antero worked with 2 certain agents (Moussa Sissoko and Laurent Schmitt) on multiple occasions, including Lassana Diarra’s signing, his wasted time with Kante and promising talent Arthur Zagre’s contract for example, while multiple unknown Portuguese bizarrely joined PSG’s board, Jaime Teixeira for example

• In search of a renowned Centerback at the request of Tuchel, PSG reached an agreement with Jérôme Boateng. who even rejected an offer from Manchester United at the deadline, waiting for the Bayern - PSG deal for his transfer. Antero Henrique ended up never making an offer to Bayern Munich.

• with a gaping hole in midfield, Antero called and promised a PSG signing for Lobotka, the player was enchanted with the idea of joining the capital club, he waited for a Celta Vigo - PSG agreement until the end of the transfer window. Antero ended up never making an offer to Celta Vigo

• despite months of negotiations, and after rejecting offers up to €60M for Guedes, he finally gave in at the end, he sold Guedes to Valencia for €40M paid over 6 years, a disaster of a deal

• despite a gaping hole in midfield, Lo Celso was loaned out at the very end of the transfer window:

  • Obligatory €25M purchase if Betis reaches a European football spot, Optional purchase option if they don’t
• that transfer was entirely Henrique’s handiwork, who arranged his friend and agent on the deal so he can receive a commission

• the PSG summer window was a failure, no midfield signings, a late Bernat arrival and Rabiot not extending

• in October 2018, Luis Fernandez was close to getting booted by Antero for no reason, no motive whatsoever, without being told or warned in any way, right now he is being paid to do nothing

• although relations between Henrique and Rabiot with his representatives was already heated, he announced in November 2018 there will be no contract extension, an extension that should’ve been done and dandy way back in June 2017

• after being in contact with Eder Militao for ages, he refused to pay the €5M demanded by his club, so he signed for Porto in July 2018. Real Madrid is preparing to sign him for €50M next summer because he turned out to be a beast

• here comes the big one, while he was searching for a financial solution to pay the €75M demanded by Ajax, Barca came in and it was a done deal only in 48 hours. Another botched transfer by Antero

• the reason the talented youngster Nsoki’s contract signature was delayed is: Antero was pressuring him to change his agent in order to have a lucrative professional contract, he suggested his associates Moussa Sissoko and Laurent Schmitt
Mate , you could've just said he is shit at his job.

Manchester United are the only football club where winter transfer windows are taken so seriously and used to spin narratives. While it's fair to argue that we have a desperation that is greater than others due to the imbalance between our stature and league peformances, at the same time, January windows have historically been treated as 'bonus windows' with any additions therein being seen as 'bonus signings'. With us, majority of this forum as well as many journalists seem to see this window as a 'must invest bigly' one, which is odd. It would be nice to get in a short term cover for Rashford but we should operate with a long term vision rather than knew jerk ism and out of desperation. Also, anybody that counts winter windows to analyse transfer activity dislays an agenda.

It's 6 signings in 2 summers which is perfectly reasonable. Would have liked more of course (Grant doesn't really count) and much better quality than those 6 (not a single transformative player) but it's not woeful either.

Said narrative exists because we've invested nigh on billions in wages and transfer fees over the space of 6 years with nearly nothing to show for it. Juxtapose that with all the teams immediately around us over the same period of time and you might be able to see why everyone is so fixated on our transfer activity, especially this window where a bunch of injuries have magnified how poor our recruitment and overall footballing infrastructure has been since SAF retired.

Now combine all of this with our status as arguably the biggest, most popular and successful club in the biggest, richest, most successful domestic football league in the world and ask yourself again why so many people care about what's happening at Manchester United.

5 signings in 2 summers and januarys, which lets be real it pretty much is, is pathetic and woeful for a club trying to get back to the top.

It's not spectacular but isn't pathetic either. Had those been players who transformed the team wrt their particular positions/roles it would have been decent. Of course everyone would like to see more ala the 6 LVg got in one summer.

To be fair, I think the criticism of said transfer windows stems more from the positions we decided to buy in rather than the number of players we bought. The number of signings were a problem for a lot of us, too, of course, because our squad is that poor, but I think people would be more understanding/lenient in regards to the criticism of previous windows had we brought in players who were more varied in terms of their positions.

Like, I guess I'm fine with all three signings in the summer, but what made that window poor was that we spent pretty much everything on defence when our attack and midfield were just as in need of reinforcements.. I get the defensive signings because we were conceding goals left, right and centre last season, but not signing a proven player in attack or midfield was crazy. Everyone knew we needed reinforcing there, and James alone was never going to be enough.

When Ole initially got the job full time I'm assuming he decided fairly quickly that Fellaini, Alexis and Lukaku weren't going to be in his plans, and that he knew Herrera was off, but two windows later and we've signed no central midfielder and a kid from the Championship in attack. That's pretty poor, imo.

Ugh - he's their best player and yet again Valencia will sell to Barca it seems. Can't believe no Premiership team was interested.

We need more depth in attack. Most people can see we need a 4th forward/striker

The reason this winter window is important is because getting top 4 is the easiest it has been in a while.
If we sign a few players to cover our deficiencies like a no. 10 and a striker we should make top 4 and make our summer window easier. Players are already rejecting us with Ole at the helm, even the players like Halaand who he coached and is on good terms with. We need CL so that they don't have another reason to reject us.
