We were, but so were Wolves, except according to Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano, they agreed to pay that amount should they choose to trigger the purchase option.
Ah fair enough. Sounds like a good deal after all

Thanks to @BluesJr in the João Félix thread (Tier 3):

Key points:

Whilst a centre back is Chelsea's #1 January priority (hence their Badiashile chase, a winger is also high in priority, hence the Félix option.

Tier 2:
There are three teams interested in Alexis Mac Allister: Chelsea, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid (in that order). It is difficult for him to leave Brighton in this transfer window. He can only leave if the club wants to sell him and intends to keep him. He could leave in June.

Alexis Mac Allister might leave Brighton in the summer.

Tier 1:

More info:
  • Leicester players available for transfer:
    • Caglar Söyüncü [my note: about to sign a pre-contract with Atletico Madrid]
    • Ayoze Pérez
    • Jannik Vestergaard
    • Dennis Praet
  • Summer spending restricted by FFP concerns
Rodgers on the January transfer window:
We’ve had a number of meetings with the ownership and the board, in terms of availability of funds. We may not have the funds that others will have, but we will certainly be able to improve the depth in our squad. It is a difficult market but there are always good players you can sign in January. It is not just about signing players, it is about signing the right one – if the right ones are available we would like to be able to do that. Over the course of the next couple of windows you’ll see a big transition of the squad. There’s naturally players out of contract and various other things.

He's super talented and would make Arsenal even better but christ what they offered is absolutely fair value. It seems like you must overpay 90% of the time to get any half decent player.
